  1. Snowing heavily here with big flakes. Starting to settle again. If this lasts all night there will be a good blanket by morning
  2. Wet snow on and off all day in the centre Belper where there was a light covering this morning, but its just a slushy mess now. Heavier snow as I type so it may accumulate again this evening and overnight. I hiked from Whatstandwell up to Crich (which is around 300m asl) and it was very different. A good blanket of snow with about 10cm over the fields and starting to drift.
  3. Been moderate snow for a couple of hours but its struggling to settle. Probably because i'm in the town centre. No idea what it's like out of town.
  4. Unfortunately I'm in the town centre so not easy to get proper snow settling outside my door. But a 5 minute uphill walk and you can often see a big difference. So I can't complain.
  5. I may walk into the Amber Warning area tomorrow . About 2-3 miles to my northwest.
  6. I have my fingers crossed for Thurs/Fri here in Mid Derbyshire. If ECM 00z is on the mark then I could see something pretty special. If GFS 06z is correct then it'll be marginal, and Belper doesn't tend to do well with marginal. At least it doesn't away from the hills to my north and west. The position of tomorrow's low to my south may give a better indication of where Thursdays sweet spot will be. Edit: Light snow shower outside my window right now
  7. I'm somewhere between Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea and have no idea what to do. The Eastern part of the activity is dying away and all the action is further west again. I wish I understood more about meteorology Edit: Apart from a Kent clipper that i will never catch
  8. Decided to take the gamble. Currently just north of Cambridge and about to head in the direction of London then Essex or possibly Kent.
  9. That's my conundrum at the minute. In seeing that skies have cleared on the south coast of Devon cams and so hoping that means the sun will come out more widely. Even then, once storms start to develop they could very quickly become a wet mess. However, I've got to be in it to win it. As for "chasing", that'll be impossible, it'd be a case of being in the right place ahead of them, otherwise they'll be off over the horizon before I can put the key in the ignition. Also can't help feeling this is likely the last chance this year.
  10. I think the main event for Eastern areas is this afternoon and evening. I don't think there is a main event for here, just good old fashioned Derbsyhire rainfall, the persistent non stop kind. Good job I'm free to drive elsewhere today.
  11. Nice line of active storms to the west of the Channel Islands. Looks like an active morning for those near the south coast. Not sure how far north it will all get before transitioning to just heavy rain. I was planning on heading out chasing later, with London and the Home Counties my target area. I'll wait for the latest models and forecasts before deciding though. Can't believe I'm still looking at storm chasing on the 23rd October!
  12. I think in future I'll keep my mouth A disappointing day considering what looked to be a good day for storms. In reality all that was seen here was a cool, dark, murky and rainy day. Better luck on Sunday I hope, but I fear with a moist SW'ly the result may be somewhat similar to today, despite what some models are showing.
  13. I saw a few flashes along with torrential rain earlier as I drove around between Newark/Sleaford/Lincoln. No chance to get out and view anything as there was way too much cloud and murk, before the whole lot became a wet mess of rain and the occasional flash, some quite bright with thunder that could be heard inside the car. Tomorrow looks like a day of widespread heavy showers and thunderstorms, perhaps the best chance for most this week to get a storm, but they will be moving fast. That means I'm unlikely to attempt chasing them, but may nip out if something comes close.
  14. Quite similar to the MDT area highlighted in the forecast from Convective Weather earlier. He mentions uncertainty over timing and that it could occur after the end of that forecast period. This would fall in line with what UKV is now showing.
  15. I find the UKV to be one of the better ones. AROME is okay but can overdo things a little with showers and storms.
  16. Welcome to Netweather. That's the million dollar question. It depends which models and forecasts are correct, both for you in Coventry and me in Derbyshire. I'd therefore say there is certainly a chance, but it's by no means a likelihood for tonight. Fingers crossed.
  17. Rapid development of cells across the south west. Fingers crossed they expand further east into the Midlands. If they do, I'll head out. Camcorder is charged and I'm all packed ready.
  18. Very big differences between the models and forecasts for just a few hours in the future. I'm not ashamed to say I don't have a clue what (if anything) is going to happen, hence why I'm quiet about this one. To be seeing thunderstorms forecast for here on BBC but bone dry on the Met Office just highlights this uncertainty.
  19. It's a bit late posting this as I went on holiday but this is my video of the storm chase I did back on September 8th. It was a day of pulse showers and storms so not the most active or severe storms (aside from flooding). Then again, active storms haven't been as easy to come across for most of us this year.
  20. Unfortunately it's electrical activity wasn't up to much. Heard a couple of rumbles and then the odd flash. Mainly rain and wind, much like earlier on in the day over Pag Island. Winds of around 60-70mph and torrential rain, but here there was no visible lightning. Over the last 3 days and 2 nights I have seen lots of distant lightning as everything seemed to miss where I was. Some of the distant lightning was like a strobe last night, from a storm about 20-30 miles away to the north. But the scenery is amazing, and better in the sunshine.
  21. Well that's typical . I head back today, currently in Zadar. Edit: Just checked, that is quite far south of Pag Island. I may have a chance in Zadar.
  22. Ancona, Italy has been under a storm for hours. I am willing it to come over the Adriatic and a bit north . I'm staying on Pag Island and can see frequent but distant flashes of lightning to the southwest.
  23. I'm hoping I see a storm later this week. I'm off to Croatia for a few days. Going to hire a car and explore the northern part of the Adriatic coast. Forecast showing thunderstorms every day I am there so hopefully.
