  1. Because I use a bin as most other civilized people do . Who wants to live in rubbish strewn countryside ??
  2. I believe the Australians have banned the sale of old style light bulbs. It's now only possible to buy energy efficient bulbs. Don't smoke. Most of my junk that the bone-idle council gits won't/can't take, ends up on my bonfire. Sorted. Err, bring out a book -Change your life by using your blue-bin
  3. Exactly what I was going to say !!! I was 14 at the time, Dad made me clear a path outside & halfway down the road - like a mug I did it. Dad was inside having a "nice cup of tea"
  4. We're doomed anyway. In 20 yrs or less, 5 billion Indians & Chinese will have cars & fridges. So whether i put my papers in my blue bin or not makes zero difference as far as I'm concerned. Recycling is all about easing your conscience & jumping on the latest fad.
  5. Great link, cheers Jethro. They've not gone yet, just seem to have thinned out a bit. Saw about 7-8 of them mobbing a Sparrowhawk yesterday, he gave up and flew off. Wuss.
  6. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/seaso.../nao/index.html Anyone know when this was last updated ??
  7. Andrea from GMTV.......mmmmmm
  8. Cheers snowsure, very interesting, I'm also starting a record here. Swallows & HMs thinned out here dramatically since my 1st post yesterday. Doubt I've seen a dozen today, so there goes my theory that they all go together !!
  9. It's not really a link, it's on Google earth http://earth.google.com/ type in 78.57.31 N 11.27.16 E
  10. Found it !!! Cheers Some good fotos attached to it, obviously taken in hi-summer.
  11. Err..now I'm really confused, should I be planting vines or buying fleeces ?? :o Thanks Paul, no joy with GE I'm afraid
  12. I'm also keeping my powder dry on this one. However...........did laugh at the GW campaigners at Heathrow, wearing bobble hats & fleeces in August
  13. Thanks Paul, I really enjoy these cam shots. Any idea where on Svalbard they are ? Google Earth doesn't recognise Zeppelin station.
  14. No mention of 4x4s of Airliners What could possibly have caused it ??
  15. I count myself rather lucky at the moment as my study window looks out over the farmyard, and the skies are now full of circling swallows. Naturally they've been here all summer & I've got used to there regular patterns and behaviour. However, this week it's all change, groups of 20-40 have started gathering on the phone wires & just seem to be waiting around. When do they decide to head South ? Do they wait until the whole farmyard's ready or do the go in dribs & drabs ?? Departure is imminent I'd say. Anyone else have some observations ?
  16. What grips me the most is that I have to pay an extra tax on my holiday flight due to an increase in solar activity
  17. http://www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk/the_..._of_1952_exmoor Just spent the week down there, and was amazed to here about it, guess I'm a little too young to have heard of it. There's no escaping its significance locally though. Every bridge has been rebuilt & contains a plaque, also a very good visitors' centre in the middle of town. A 1950's Boscastle you could say. Hope you find it interesting.
  18. A particularly good detoxer for the liver, especially useful after an Oliver Reed style weekend
