  1. I agree with others, it's gloomy, very windy and feeling chilly in London today. We're about 4 degrees lower than what the Met Office forecast for 2 pm We need a pattern change, the positioning of the high pressure has been pants for us for the past week or so
  2. While many parts of Asia and North America get hints of early summer weather, the GFS has highs of 9 degrees across parts of the south of the UK next week.. in Mid May.. Time is running out on people saying this is average weather
  3. Because you described July 2020 as: "Dull cool or humid for most of July, which is poor for summer. " Only 2 out of 31 days failed to reach 20°C. In fact, 14 days were >23°C. <-- Cool?
  4. I don't recall recent summers in London being as bad as some are pointing out on here. Sure there were some cloudy and wet days but generally I wouldn't describe London summers as cool. Here are the max and min July temps for Heathrow from 2019-2022 and almost every July day exceeded 20°C:
  5. This has definitely been a spring lacking variation.. zzZZzzz We should expect to see a day or two in the mid to high 20s but there's no sign of any heat in the forecast, or prolonged sunshine for that matter.
  6. Last year record breaking heat around spain/italy was probably a precursor to our 40*C heatwave. Maybe a repeat this year? I personally hope so
  7. That may be somewhat true but averages hide a lot variability. We can expect to have colder days and warmer days, but we have struggled to get those warmer days IMBY. Still waiting for our first 20*C day
  8. The GFS just keeps getting colder and colder. What the hell is going on with spring 2023 . I hope this is not foreshadowing a cold and wet summer..
  9. Forecast vs. reality Too much thick grey cloud over London this morning. Disappointing considering these were meant to be the sunny days before the cloud and rain returns later this week.
  10. What a foul day.. and it matches the whole month. Probably the most relentlessly cloudy and wet March since 2018. I hope that means we're in for a scorching summer!
  11. With the way the past 12 months have gone - extended periods of alternating wet or dry conditions, then we might expect 6+ weeks of mild, dry spring weather soon?
  12. Well at least we've exchanged cold rain for mild rain Hoping for some sunny weather as my seedlings have become very leggy
  13. Last year the Mediterranean region experienced abnormally high temperatures from spring continuing throughout summer which lead to higher SSTs. We should be looking out for the same this year as a precursor to any extreme UK summer heat..
  14. Still getting a wintry mix in London under the heavier precipitation. It's quite unusual to see the precipitation constantly switching from rain to snow to rain in seconds. Roll on spring!
  15. The high resolution models are generally in agreement for tonight/tomorrow morning Arome - Harmonie - Arperge and Icon all for 5 AM: Sleet and snow across the region but perhaps rain nearer the coast especially the Thames estuary Then for 1 PM: Patchy rain across the region, maybe some sleet Then Wednesday evening/night could be very interesting with a switchover to heavy snowfall in places A very messy picture overall though with any snowfall probably melting/washing away during daytime hours, which echoes the Met Office's thoughts in their youtube video earlier today
  16. Was about to moan about tomorrow's snow chances being v. low in the south but the Met Office seem keen on it being more white than wet tomorrow.. And for what it's worth, it's currently sleeting/snowing in subtropical London, so, anything can happen from now on!?
  17. "We don't need the rain!" Couldn't be more wrong IMO! We need a thorough soaking this spring before another summer drought hits us. Driest February in 30 years for England WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK England had its driest February in 30 years according to provisional figures from the Met Office, as meteorological winter concluded with a dry and mild month for most.
  18. Think we will struggle to see any meaningful snow down in the SE with 850 hpa temps only -6 to -8 next week and northerly winds..
  19. This proposed cold spell looks quite lackluster, certainly nothing like the BFTE. In fact, we've just had a weekend of low 850 hpa temperatures in the SE (not far off what's being predicted for March) that didn't result in particularly cold 2M temps nor widespread snow. Roll on spring! I'm hoping it's mild and wet to replenish the garden, followed by a scorching hot summer.
  20. The third gorgeous blue sky day in a row in London. There's a noticeable increase in solar radiation now and it feels very spring-like out there! We have some beautiful crocus blooming locally, along with some daffodils and bluebells starting to make their appearance
  21. Take a shot every time someone mentions the Scottish ski industry... lol It accounts for a measly ~0.01% of Scottish GDP, whereas severe winter weather can cause 10s if not 100s of millions of pounds worth of agricultural losses - especially during the spring. As a keen gardener, I'm hoping we don't get any SSW-induced cold/snow over the next few weeks! We had a great snow event in December IMBY and the most frost hours for years, so I just want sunshine and warmth come March
  22. I can't get over how stunning the landscape is out there in the winter sunshine. We still have 7cm at just 5 miles from central London. It'll be such a shame to see it melt on Sunday and return to gloom!! Also, the snow texture is stunningly spikey after several hard frosts
  23. With a clear, calm night then temps could drop to -8 - -10 over any areas with snow cover. Not with this mist though?
  24. ~10cm snow remaining. Bit surprised to see many had such a cold night, including that -11 in the region. I wonder how low we can go here if the cloud clears!
