  1. Flooding rains in central London. As a rough estimate, my empty plant pots outside now have about 2 inches of water in them just from the last hour Plenty of thunder & lightening too. What an abrupt end to the long dry spell!
  2. 31°C down from a peak of 34°C this afternoon. Very uncomfortable but it feels good knowing the end is near!
  3. Phenomenal weather today with the first 40°C in London. I called it on 14th June hah! But seriously, the background signals were there for this to occur this year. It's truly remarkable that we had Sahara desert-like weather with 40s combined with 10-15% humidity. Very difficult to achieve for an island on the edge of the North Atlantic.
  4. Living in London I think i'm becoming desensitized to hot weather because next week doesn't look much worse than what we've experienced before. In August 2020 it was 36, 32, 33, 35, 35, 34 consecutively, and we hit 37 a few weeks prior. And of course we hit 38 in July 2019. The upcoming 2-day event looks impactful for the widespread nature of the heat and the vulnerable will sadly suffer, but most Londoners will be ok if current forecasts come off IMO.
  5. That's a very large area of patchy rain covering most of central England.. Don't think any model picked that up to the extent the radar is showing? Even that latest Met Office video doesn't really show it
  6. 39.5°C at Cambridge Botanical Gardens on Monday 18th July
  7. Peak of 28°C in London today, about 4°C above average. I've seen a few comments on here & Twitter about the heatwave criteria being too low, and I have to agree. 28°C is nothing unusual for Londoners anymore.. just a warm day IMO. And I don't wish to normalise climate change but I think the London/SE criteria should be raised to 3 days of 32°C.
  8. Glorious summer evening in London even if the flying ants are swarming
  9. I can't lie, this week has been quite disappointing with most of the daylight hours filled with thick, grey cloud only for it to clear up in the evening/overnight. It's really hard to enjoy warm temps under this cloud.
  10. 21°C in London with sunny spells and warm enough for shorts & t-shirt. The outlook is much of the same it seems. Can't complain!
  11. Rainfall has been below average here since February. London has managed to avoid most of the soaking thunderstorms.
  12. The parks are starting to look noticeable scorched in London now. 2018 summer vibes starting to appear except we haven't had the heat to match! And the outlook is for 1-5 mM between now and 6th July.
  13. Massive changes to the feel of the weather in London between Friday & Saturday. I'd agree that it felt cold in London yesterday evening. Not just the UK though, some places in NE Spain/ SW France had 15°C drops in less than an hr. The UK's climate is relatively mundane in comparison..
  14. Glorious weather in the capital this week. I think we'll get to 33.5°C at Heathrow/Cambridge and I seem to recall a few tweeters saying that June would be a write off? "Cool, wet". If the trend for heat in Southern Europe continues throughout the summer then I wouldn't rule out the UK's first 40°C day
  15. Anyone envious of the UK's summers (or lack thereof!) have lost their minds.. !! 3 months of cool, wet, overcast skies with a 2 day burst of 35 degree heat.
  16. Winter woollies required for jubilee parties this afternoon.. Is it June or November? The lack of seasonal variation of the UK's climate is prominent today.
  17. Dorset has done very well for storms so far this year! Hope we still have some energy left in the SE..
  18. Radar suggests the dreaded thundery rain is on the way for the SE. Seems to be picking up in intensity though (?), and the comments in here are promising!
  19. Well that estofex forecast was way off the mark! most models performed well though. Some even showed the splitting that’s happened, maybe by chance!
  20. Wow, can see the flashes in central London now looking SW. Storms are v high evidently. a memorable night to come
  21. ~18,000 detected strikes in ~90 mins. Wow. That thing is electrified!! There seems to be a whole line of storms forming now so a high chance anyone east of that will have a fun night
  22. Glorious weather in the capital so far today. The first warm morning of the season for me, with the 25°C milestone surely being broken this afternoon..
  23. Thick cloud with almost frontal-like rainfall and an easterly wind across the south now. History tells us our storm chances are close to zero, unless you live in Kent!
