  1. We just had ~50 mins of light snow in central London. Not bad for the 1st day of winter!
  2. Agreed, the 0Z GEFS mean barely goes above 30 yr average and spends 75% of the time below it up to 17th Dec. It might be less cold than now but it's still looking chilly & seasonal for the foreseeable..
  3. Looking at the 12Z ensembles, mild weather does look likely next week but there are still enough cold members to trigger some interest in how next week evolves.
  4. Well what's to come over the next few days is what the modelling has suggested - chilly days and frosty nights for most. The duration of the cold spell has been cut short but the intensity hasn't changed. I don't recall there being a forecast for a severe cold spell
  5. 12Z ECM ens are similar to MOGREPS and GEFS - with scatter appearing after 3rd/4th. Could swing either way after!
  6. 12Z MOGREPS and GEFS So at least a week of cold, seasonal weather before the scatter begins around 3rd/4th Dec. Much better to see than mild SW'erlies.
  7. Any snowfall looks restricted to high ground based on that Looking more wet than white in the South, but all can change before Thursday of course..
  8. I'm enjoying the chilly & seasonal weather but I saw a comment about the coldest start to winter since 2010? We had more frosts and ice days during the early 2022 winter cold snap compared to what's forecast this week. And in NE London I had 7 inches of snow fall in 3 hours and it didn't melt for a week Last Dec vs. Next week 12th December 2022
  9. Love to see it! Pretty high confidence in a cold spell of weather in our locale now. Things can change by next week but with such cross model support.. the weather is looking seasonal for a change!
  10. Looking at xcweather latest gusts, we are well below forecast for inland regions in the south. Forecast 54 MPH, actual 32 MPH. So either the stronger winds will arrive later or the stronger winds are further South. Looking at the latest models.. I would go for the latter option. The only interesting thing for those of us inland will probably be the very low pressure readings.
  11. Quite a narrow line between a normal windy day and disruptive winds tomorrow. But it's looking like London and surrounding regions will not experience much disruption, with gusts likely ~40-55 mph based on current forecasts. It's looking more disruptive for coastal regions, especially the far SE tip of the country with strong winds during daytime hours. 80-90 mph possible?
  12. I travelled on the train from Guildford to London last Monday morning and there was a widespread frost in the countryside. I wouldn't call it isolated or limited to frost hollows. All fields were white in this area, even right up to the greater London boundaries:
  13. Nothing better than a settled spell during Nov-Feb IMO! I love the dry winter sunshine with crisp, cold days with lingering overnight frost. Hmm.. we're overdue a long, cold wintery spell of weather.
  14. My tomatoes did well but the heat loving plants like peppers and aubergines were awful like you said. I had to throw them out and plant cool season crops!
  15. I'm in the mood for a bit more lingering heat and sunshine before the autumn storms come (and my garden plants probably feel the same) However, one thing I really hate is a mild halloween/bonfire night. They must be crisp and cold!
  16. 5th consecutive day of 30°C for London, in September! And I wouldn't be so confident in saying Sunday/Monday will be the last of the hot weather this year. This hurricane season seems quite active and we shouldn't rule out the possibility of the same weather pattern returning throughout September and October. 2023 is a strange year and may have more tricks up its sleeve. Perhaps >30°C in October?
  17. If it were July then surely we could be reaching mid to upper 30s with these sort of high morning temperatures. However today's forecast high is only about 31°C!
  18. Heathrow 25°C at 10AM Another hot afternoon to enjoy
  19. 31°C reported across parts of the SE and E, a bit shy of the 33-34°C hinted at by some models yesterday. Personally this heat and humidity feels quite comfortable compared to June/July heatwaves.
  20. A notably grey tinge to the sky over London this morning Temp only around 22°C at 10AM but we've lost the easterly winds from earlier this week. Hoping for low 30s this afternoon but perhaps too much to ask! We need a SE breeze.
  21. 30°C at Heathrow Some models hinting at low to mid 30s tomorrow
  22. I can't believe this is a real forecast for the autumn thread Absolutely stunning!
  23. Unpopular opinion but I quite enjoyed the autumnal chill in the air this morning. Good riddance to summer 2023, we'll try again next year!
  24. Agreed! July was definitely not typical UK weather and the stats back that statement Wetter, duller and cooler pretty much across the entire country!
  25. Another warm & (mostly) sunny day in London. Jeans and jacket have been replaced with shorts and t shirt finally. This is turning out to be quite a nice spell of summer weather!
