  1. Got some really pretty mid level instability coming in ahead of Agnes. Photos when I'm home
  2. Little pockets of mid-level instability around this morning as the 'mini-plume' makes its way in. Also notably warm as I left for an office day earlier!
  3. Thursday night's low seems to be a forecaster's nightmare. GFS has it crossing Wales & then northern England, whereas ECM has it over northern France. UKMO would seem to be the realistic middle ground option.
  4. Just a stiff breeze and perhaps one or two showers down here then. Hopefully Thursday night's low can provide some interest.
  5. Exactly! The only thing that keeps me ticking over, weather-wise, is if we get a proper wet and stormy October, or perhaps a little Indian summer. Last year's plume-style thunderstorms did add some massive interest to the month too, but you can't count on that happening again for good few years!
  6. HATE that my birthday (the 23rd) often falls on the turn over into the sh****st six months of the year. Into that very pointless feeling time of the year now until the clocks go back. It may as well be the 4/5pm sunsets now and be done with it!
  7. The west gets all the fun once again, yawn!
  8. What a beauty. I see GEM and UKMO swing it further to the north west, which is usually the reality of things.
  9. Did I fall into the trap of sounding like a coldie? I always get the sense that something like 80% of this forum are. I like a mild and stormy winter; 2014 was perfect, albeit I'm not saying I want people to get flooded.
  10. Loving the contrasts this month; from last week's heat, to the thunderstorms, to today's slice of glorious autumn heavy rain and strong winds.
  11. That's definitely cheating! If you're not battling a remote shutter while also battling the elements, your tripod, focus, composition & settings, it'd almost feel too easy!
  12. Yep, DSLR here! It's actually only an entry-level one (Nikon D3200) that I got a good 7/8 years ago, but I'm so attached to it now, plus it's so expensive to upgrade! It gives me fairly good results, and at the end of the day, the lens, settings, focus etc are far more important than the camera. It's got to the point where it needs a bl00dy good clean professionally on the inside as spots in images have become an issue! All that dust in Arizona won't have helped at all!
  13. Being pedantic here for sure, because obviously I know what you're talking about, but 'heat lightning' technically is not a thing. It's not a meteorological term. What Is Heat Lightning? Not Real, That's What. | The Weather Channel WEATHER.COM We reveal the truth behind heat lightning. - Articles from The Weather Channel | weather.com
  14. Yet to catch-up with the full thread and see everyone's photos, as I'm working, but here's a quick lunch break photo dump. I'm not posting these images because they're good, or because I'm happy with them, but more to show what a frustrating night it turned into. Nothing encapsulates what sort of night it was more than when your nicely-framed Freshwater Bay shot has a CG land just out of frame to the left! Here are a couple of photos which do contain bolts, but are...well, a bit naff by the standards I set for myself! All that was left after a thoroughly disappointing night, in which I battled storms splitting around the Island, rain, high outflow winds and lightning obscured by low cloud, was to sit and watch the monster storms that strobed away to the North over Hampshire while I stood in the drizzle wondering what could've been!
  15. What a frustrating little chase tonight. So much lightning, but it was everywhere except here, oh well. @Azazel should be happy now, I make that 2 or 3 direct hits for Andover tonight. Pretty sure one of the massive flashing CBs I could see an hour ago was over there
  16. Amazing views right now of three distinct CBs flashing away to the north, the entire towers are lighting up
  17. I think I've messed up by not driving to the other side of the island, everything has split and I'm in no man's land
  18. On the cliffs at Freshwater once again and it's strobing away in many different directions. I'm clearly on the wrong side of the island for the really decent storm though to the east. I'm going to need to hope the stuff directly to my south allows for some good photos... that's if this annoying light rain will allow me to get the camera out again
  19. Must be some view in Jersey right now; so many storms surrounding it
  20. I've got Afton Down kind of blocking my view, but I doubt I'd see anything over a few distant flashes currently either way. If it's still this strong in an hour, I'll be heading to the cliffs to watch
  21. This is painful watching those CI storms edge ever slightly closer with each radar frame!
