  1. I’m pretty sure AC is the way forward, I’m going to be investing in a unit or two for our new place I think.
  2. What really grinds my gears is that my bedroom is that much hotter than outside…why am I not sleeping on the lawn…
  3. The mornings start of quite humid, in the 80% range, but by lunch time we’re back to normal levels of humidity, then becoming quite dry in the afternoon. It’s the afternoons I find uncomfortable, dry and airless. The mornings have been quite pleasant this week up until about midday.
  4. Not to want to be an ass, but we debated this last year and decided on 2 separate threads. I think the amount of twitter posts ends up being a scroll marathon (is that a scrollathon?) and means finding the snow and ice cover content difficult. Some of us also don’t use Twitter, so it’s unreadable Edit: to try to be even less of an ass, can we keep it to one Twitter link per day, rather than multiple in one post? Best of both worlds
  5. 95%?! That sounds utterly disgustingly uncomfortable, I’d rather be baking in 35c dry heat than feeling like a warm damp towel all day. Urgh.
  6. We're discussing the fact winter is over, based on a warm September, IN SEPTEMBER! Anyway, I think I called winter is over in August, so I'm claiming first spot
  7. Oh come on, I cannot for the life of me think of one reputable forecaster that would support this theory. You could equally argue that a cold September would be followed by a cold winter, because there is support for that too. What's more, as our climate changes, statistical pattern matching becomes even more tenuous than it already was.
  8. Let’s hope so, it’s a BS theory. I’m pretty sure the theory was debated years ago and debunked way back then as being unsupported nonsense.
  9. 80s - 90s In fairness I guess it doesn’t matter, weather records and childhood memories skew our bias somewhat. I have no idea what the actual weather was like then, and would never pretend to know what summer 1975 was like as I wasn’t even alive, and as posted above, stats don’t really paint a picture of reality. My vote was ‘okay’, for the reasons I mentioned above, a mix of the right things. A poor summer could equally be interpreted by others as one where we’ve had no rainfall, droughts, poor crop harvest etc. I’m sure some will disagree, but there is no right or wrong, it’s entirely subjective.
  10. Perfectly ok, felt like a normal British summer to me - like when I was kid. Enough water to keep the plants alive and the grass green, enough sun that I’m not pasty white, and warm enough that I’ve considered wild swimming a number of times.
  11. Open the windows, your house is an anomaly! It was nearly freezing in some places last night.
  12. Certainly a cooler evening (hence the fog this morning), I slept well last night at least. Not sure I buy the latent heat idea, it’s definitely cooler in the evenings and overnight now than it was in June
  13. A bit too hot for me today, and this week looks a bit warm - the saving grace is that at this time of year the night time temps are much much lower, and it feels nice having a cool breeze through the bedroom window.
  14. Good weather is perfectly enjoyable outside of the school holidays
  15. What, the Earth became flat in Essex?
  16. A fact is a fact, summer temperature was average, can’t argue with that. Might as well be standing on the moon claiming that Earth is flat.
  17. I’d happily take a Nov 09 if it meant a Dec 09, it’s a fair trade isn’t it..?
  18. The average summer temperature is going to be pretty much bang on the average for summer, which is probably best described as warm. Rainfall was above average and irradiance was below average.
  19. Great, except our reservoirs are above the average levels for this time of year already. Most are over 80% full, which for end of summer is pretty good.
