Big ol' bad boy along the M4 corridor regions at the moment - kicking out tonnes of lightning
Contrary to some reports, I can confirm that it is indeed a bad boy!
-
Radar Watch
Intresting developments west of Poole - Some intense showers really pepped up in the last 10 minutes
Intense rainfall in a line Swindon - Newbury - Basingstoke - no reports of thunder with this though at the moment (that I have seen)
South wales and Mid Wales lots of intense cells some produceing thunder all coming north to south.
best looking cell is one thats shot up over Llanidlios.
Oh and Swansea looks in a decent place for intresting weather, really intense radar rainfall showing to its North and West - My pick of a place to be at the moment!
Plenty of thunder and ligthning in that bad boy to the North of Newbs..

Holy poo.
Some serious flooding is likely after this downpour, very impressive rainrates too I imagine.
Well done Nick F and Harry and others with their predictions.
Thundery Regards

Pretty Tasty eh? I would like to see what the peak rain rate is out of this t-storm

Had 11mm already this morning and it's still raining.
I am so disappointed with our storm season this year and it's almost at an end.
Hi Lauren, I would say we are fortunate in this country that we have a year round storm season. Some of the best ones I have seen in recent years have been in November and February.
-
Some serious amounts of rain have fallen to the south of the Brest Peninsula according to the radar, looking at 250mm in some parts in the last 12 hours
-
The most I could find is Whitchurch at 62.23 mm of rain so far today.
-
What is it about that narrow region of this country that's been so conducive to severe activity over the past weeks?
It was like that way back on June 24th when I was up there for a wedding.
Might have something mean direction of the steering winds and local topography.. sounds good even if I am talking balony.

I see you're quite new here EML. Perhaps I'm a little too cynical now and have so many UK Clutched defeat from the jaws of victory T-shirts ! regarding cold and snowy weather that I'm always very dubious of winter possibilities at this stage.
Of course it's always worth seeing what the factors show now and maybe with time we'll get a better idea of how this effects the winter but I'm a strong believer in chaos theory especially this far out.
Probably the UK is one of the most difficult areas to call longer term, which as you said makes the UK very interesting and does bring alot of debate in these forums.
I can see a new line of business for you, Nick. I would love to see what one of those T-shirts would look like, maybe Coast can help you out.

It's gone very cloudy and overcast here, I'm not expecting much more for the rest of the day.
The Kempston/Bedford storm shield was working well today. deflecting storms north and south by only a few miles.
Looks like things could get quite interesting further north and east for the rest of the afternoon/evening?
Looking at the radar it appears that all the energy and activity has been sucked northwards by the intensifying storm system in Lincs!
-
Bloody annoying here in Newbury,
Just as things were looking reasonably hopeful a large sheet of cirrostratus is invading from the southwest.
According to SAT24 animations, it may well clear come 4pm time but that's surely put the mockers on our (Joneseye etc.) hopes in the West Berkshire area.
Temperature peaking at 25.4c and a DP of 18.6c, oh how things could have been. Good Luck to all the other storm starved folk in here.
Desperate Regards
gottolvethisweather
I always had the suspicion we were too far south to see any action in Newbs.. Looks like Oxford is the initiation zone today as more cells are forming that way before heading on their merry way towards Beds/Cambs..
-
It went south of me :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:Lettuce this town mk428rs
At least it's still early doors so to speak. There are plenty of oppportunities to come with the Buckingham cell on course to hit you
-
there's a beutiful storm streamer just SE of Leicester, too bad Im about 25 miles NW of it!! Cells keep developing in a line one behind the other. Some lucky sod surely has hit the lottery out there
All of them with Lincolnshire as a destination!
-
The cell that was heading for the Bedford area now looks to be skirting east of my location. Those cells near oxford have pepped up a bit, hoping one of those will hit.
The one near Edgcott/Winslow area looks to have the best shot. Same steering winds in place so touch and go for a direct hit!
-
Rain Today is good enough and free!
Storm Going up near Luton , We need a storm here hasn't been one since last year
Rain today is not a patch on the Netweather radar IMO.
-
Looks like I'm missing out by 20 miles or so. I have watched the development from my garden and its looking good, large cumulus/CB's gone up. I'm hoping something will bubble up further south in line with me but i doubt it
Next stop for that bad boy is Biggleswade!
-
The sweet smell of the grass in the rain with the odd rumble of Thunder. Bliss
I love that smell!!
-
lol no change there then thats exactly what the small storms last night did! 0.2mm rain in the end but go to like amptil and they had 10mm or more! The sky is getting darker from my south now though...
As Harry has just posted there a couple of Cells that have popped up at Oxford and Bicester. Based on the direction the Leighton Buzzard cell is heading in I would give you more chance of a direct hit from those 2 if they have any potency
-
I hope your right!!! temp is still around 29c more and more convective cloud every minute! cameras on standby, shame i have to walk to town in an hour
It might actually pass just to your south, but what do I know...
-
Its gone from blue sky to bubbly clouds in like 15 mins, That storm in buzzard is sooooo close
It's heading for Bedford, your 2011 duck may about to be broken!
-
Hmmm, here in Aylesbury looks really black and stormy to the North of here. Nothing showing on radar though
the 1245 netweather update shows it hammering it down in Wingrave up through Leighton Buzzard. That cell has exploded from nothing 1 hour ago
-
Lol thanks, I may quote you on that if that's ok?!
Go for it!
It actually makes a really good birthday present or stocking filler for the man or woman that has everything!
-
Huge anvil blowing up to my west..... (about 35 miles w of Manchester)
over Holmfirth looking at the radar.
Another potent cell firing up over Leighton Buzzard.
Some very encouraging signs for so early in the day.
-
Can someone post a link to a good radar cause Im stuck with meto and I don't really like raintoday
See Pauls post above ^^^^^^^^
The best one on the Internet is the one provided by Netweather. It costs the equivalent of a trip to the cinema for 2 to watch a 3D movie, 8 pints of beer, 55% of a full price game for the PS3 and is worth more than all of them put together in these situations :-D
-
Yeah can see that quite clearly on the sattelite imagery, seems to be curling down into the Midlands, not too far east of here too.
looks like a small cell has formed to the east of Manchester.
Looking north out of my window (towards Oxford) I can see some bubbling convection in the distance, but not a lot to the south.
