  1. I hope so although it might not be great for COVID. Still, don't think it can possibly be worse than the last one. Even just a few days of tempreatures below 7/8C here in the south would be nice. I look back at January 2019 and think "swearing is not big or clever that was cold!" when I saw highs of 3C and lows of -5C some days. Then it became mild
  2. Rightly or wrongly though this summer iwll probably be remembered in the media for the six day heatwave rather than the overwhelming majority of it beign rather uneventful. I see some bias looking towards the heat rather than ignoring the fact that July was below average - this is pretty unusual for any summer motnh, never mind thoes of recent years.
  3. TBF I started noticing this back in July which was very autumnal. It's like someones swapped August with July and vice versa. Interesting outlook for autumn and winter - suggesting midler than average but last time they said average to cooler, and they originally predicted july would be above average when it wasn't. wait and see I guess
  4. I thought that too but also I thought hot summers led to delayed leaf fall - like we had a good autumn last year in terms of foliage and the timing of it and that was cited because of a wet august. speaking of which it has absolutely chucked it down here in Essex today
  5. Is it just me or do the trees seem really autumnal? Lots of leaves have fallen off and many trees looking rather autumnal
  6. With regards to that record (1961), was there a hot spell like this before then or did records for this kind of heatwave only date back as far as then? For the first time In days I can feel a breeze and its nearly 8PM and 26C, way cooler than other nights.
  7. Wtf is this a glitch? Google saying its currently 20C at heathrow - 15c temp drop wth? https://www.google.com/search?q=heathrow+weather&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB878GB878&oq=heathrow+weather&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j69i60l3j69i65j69i60l2.2103j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  8. The fact that it isn't uncommon is surely indicative of the state of the climate down here anyway. Maybe its because I'm young, but I don't recall an extended period of weather like this where night time temps have been so high. At least we don't have a drought to worry about but Madrid is nothing like London, its way further south and further inland and can actually be colder than London in winter. And Madrid has air conditioning and everything is built for hot weather. not london
  9. Lasted quite long and they will become moer prolonged and frequent in the future. Especially when you consider the southeast is probbaly gonna hit 40C sooner or later.
  10. Can't wait for this heatwave to be over. The humidity is terrible down here its like being in Florida or the southeastern USA rather than southeastern England. At least when last year we had 38.7C the heat was pretty dry and tempreatures at night dropped to the mid teens, unlike now where they arent falling below 20c. Bring on autumn is all I can say. If only these tempreatures had been spaced out across the summer months rather than having one mouth of slightly above average temps , an awful july and then a scorching couple of weeks in august
  11. Know it's not a great way of predicting future weather patterns esp with climate change now but didn't 1995-1996 have a really cold winter especially in december 1995?
  12. Believe its anything over 20C - but I can't think of how we've done it 16 times unless they mean in 16 places its happened
  13. Thought we would with a minimum of 25C in parts of London and Kent but it fell to 23.5C by the last minute. Food for thought though between 1961 and 1985 I believe there were about six tropical nights. This year alone there have been 16.
  14. Possibility, but they've underestimated them so far and there's still uncertainty over cloud cover and if the thunderstorms move east
  15. 37c where? I'm not seeing it. MO headline temps have always been off the mark. I like hot periods but not this long. It wouldn't be bad if it wasn't so damn warm at night. Even back last year when we had that record breakg one day hot spell in my area it dropped to like 13C at night
  16. Was in Canning Town earlier, it was actually cooler than where I usuaally am in south essex. was 29c there at around 12 when it was 31c back in essex
  17. Yeah they have headline temps of 37 for Heathrow yet headline temps for central London are like 33 yes Heathrow is often warmer but by four degrees? And the hourly temps max our at 34 or 35
  18. If you look though its not actually 37 forecast. They've always overestimated the tempreature especially these last few days
  19. It's just made me think of the potential for 40c temps in the UK thats all, and whether they've actually been reached before.
  20. Wasn't 42C reached by some private stations back in 2006?
  21. Was a horrible night, had the windows open got half a dozen bites. Surprised we didn't break the night record .
  22. It's weird how the tempreature has fallen so much I meant.
