  1. I don’t think you need happy pills to see the potential that some are seeing in the charts. It’s the others that need to stop taking the hallucinogenic pills that’s making them see these fantastic charts that they keep banging on about. The outlook is dreadful, but for rain and not snow.
  2. Well I’ve put away the snow shovel in the shed. Put the thermals, gloves and bobble hat away in the wardrobe and stored the skis and snow boots back in the loft for the winter. For me this winter is a complete bust. In all seriousness though, there’s very little in the way of even a glimmer of hope in the model output, and we’re now looking into February. I just want this miserable, wet dross done with now and some spring sunshine and warmth, and more especially dry weather. Here’s to next winter where I’m sure some people will already be predicting that the cold is ‘nailed’.
  3. To be quite honest, I’ve grown so weary at looking at model output this winter, I’ve now given up with it and now just have a quick glimpse in every 2 or 3 days. I’m really not all that bothered about the cold anymore these days, especially with the hindrance snow would cause to the vaccination programme. What I am very concerned about though is the amount of rain that might fall over the coming weeks. Rivers are full to the brim around here and fields are lying under water. I really don’t think it will take much now to cause serious flooding issues. With that in mind, at the moment I think I’d be very happy with a ‘nailed on’ dry, mild Bartlett. In fact I’ll start a new phrase here and call it an ‘oven ready Bartlett’
  4. Well if you’re allowed to have nailed on cold, then surely I can have nailed on mild. So here goes: I think the mild is pretty much nailed today with little chance of cold. ( Let’s see if a bit of reverse psychology works here)
  5. Are we allowed to say ‘Nailed on mild’ on this forum or is that classed as swearing to coldies?
  6. I’m afraid because most of what you’re reading on here is hope casting or even dream casting without any real scientific backup. We can all hope for certain things in life but it doesn’t mean we’re going to get them. Personally I’d love a nice prolonged warm dry spell, but I doubt I’ll get one of those either.
  7. Broadly speaking that proverb is true as there’s always a lag in the seasons in response to the sun. In truth though to us humans, February can feel more springlike. If you get a sunny day in Feb you can feel the heat from the sun on your skin, that coupled with much longer day length, it makes the month just a little more bearable. As you were though, we’ll have to wait and see what a 21st century globally warmed February is like.
  8. The only thing I like about snow in March is it can be lying deeply in the morning and gone by lunchtime.
  9. It doesn’t look like January is going to produce the goods now, well nothing severe anyway. That leaves February where the sun’s getting stronger and the days longer, and to be honest when it gets to March I’d rather have something a bit more springlike. It’s been a winter that’s promised a lot but delivered little here....
  10. I feel your pain and so glad you got it off your chest
  11. Made all the worse by being locked down and indoors. How much worse can it get
  12. I think the latter is more likely. We must all give praise to our redeemer the Greenland High
  13. Well you can’t really discuss something that doesn’t exist
  14. Well this is the sum total of winter 20/21 snowfall I bet the snow ploughs have been busy here this morning.
  15. I don’t know what part of Lincs you live in, but I live 10 miles from the coast and have had absolutely no snow at all yet this winter. I know some places like Lincoln had a good dumping yesterday.
  16. I’m reading seaweed and the behaviour of grebes and waxwings. Not really, but I might as well be given the unreliability of the model output recently.
  17. I can’t see anything remotely snowy here either and I live much further north. I’ve barely seen a flake of snow all winter, let alone anything lying.
  18. I’m detecting the awful stench of desperation over on the MOD thread tonight, especially after the awful 18z. I think we have to give ourselves a reality check and accept it for what it is....A bust! I’d love to find a a snowy and cold outlook somewhere out there but it seems to have albeit gone now. I’m more concerned about the amount of rain that could fall in the coming weeks if those charts came to fruition.
  19. “Have faith” ? I think I’ve just become an atheist.
  20. Just had some frozen rain pellets here. I guess that’s my snowfall for the winter.
