  1. As someone who worked outside all the time during those years, I concur that it was bliss. The only downside was constant gales all the time especially in the following year. It seemed almost relentless.
  2. GFS. I’m just fed up with the cold damp and rain. A nice dry and mild spell would do me a treat.
  3. On a more positive note, we might be mild and dry soon thanks to the lovely Bartlett high.
  4. Says someone that’s probably got or has had a good covering of snow.
  5. It’s not just the south that’s being snow starved. I live in coastal Lincs and all we’ve had is rain and barely a frost so far this winter. Northerlies used to produce snow by the bucket load here, but now we’re lucky to see a few blobs of sleet mixed in with a cold rain. This is the reality of global warming I’m afraid and it’s only going to get worse in years to come. ‘Tings ain’t what they used to be’.
  6. I’d hardly call it a cold spell in this neck of the woods. The temperature was 6.5c today and constant rain showers.
  7. Well I agree with all of that but I just put it down to my age. The kids seem to like it.
  8. Fantastic! Thanks for putting this on, I’ll listen to it in it’s entirety later, the memories of that snowy month will come flooding back.
  9. I agree regarding the music these days, but I think it may be something to do with getting old.
  10. Thanks. I’ll have a google and see where the nearest place is for me.
  11. Incredible photos! We really don’t get winters like that anymore.
  12. I didn’t know Phil wasn’t in good health. Agree about Empire State Human, I have the album and it was before they became really well know .
  13. I’m hardly jealous at all. seriously though, I wish I was going.
  14. You have all the groups spot on for that period. Human league at No1 with Don’t You Want Me.
  15. Kind of reminds me of December 1981 where there were no cold uppers of any note, but due to a sudden nationwide wet snowfall the cold became locked in with severe frost and further snowfall throughout the month. I’m not saying it will happen this time but it’s always a possibility.
  16. Personally I can’t see why the negativity with some posts this morning. All looks fairly much in order to me for a possibly prolonged cold spell, although nothing too severe at the moment. I’ll take this upcoming cold spell quite happily over the usual mild Atlantic muck that we’re all so used to. Happy Boxing Day.
  17. First time post but a long time lurker. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas, and let’s hope we all get the weather we hope for this winter. Stay safe, be kind.
  18. I would save your petrol money if I were you .
  19. Radar showing rain/ snow mix but just light rain here. Temp 2.5 C. DP 1.6 C
  20. I eventually bought my own Davis Vantage Vue from this place http://www.weatherstations.co.uk/ I e-mailed them before with a few questions and they replied with very comprehensive answers.(very professional and slightly cheaper too for the bundle) Having owned a number of other weather stations before I can honestly say that this one is worth the money. It has a rugged, profesional build that fills you with confidence that it won't let you down. You do need the datalogger to take advantage of all the information available but after the initial shock of paying that extra amount for what looks like a plug!, it is worth it in the long run. The Davis software that comes with the datalogger would seem to look like something from the 1980,s , so I quickly ditched this in favour of the cumulus software which is free or by a donation if you wish. This has enabled me to set up my own basic website http://www.louthweather.co.uk/ and cumulus software also allows you to upload to other websites such as met offices WOW, Weatherunderground, PWS and my favourite Twitter https://twitter.com/louthweather . I've owned the Davis for nearly 6 months now and it hasn't missed a beat yet. Teamed up with Cumulus software makes a great little set up. I hope this may help some people who might be thinking about buying a Weather station in the near future. Cheers guys and keep up all the good informative work you do on here.
  21. My davis just recorded a new record of 18.9 dewpoint...is that any good for storm development?....has been a right let down here so far.
  22. My dad bought the Davis vantage vue over a year ago. He had many other weather stations before which always failed in the end. The davis has been faultless, accurate and ruggedly built. Everytime I see it I look with envious eyes. There is no doubt in my mind which one I would go for. Also many of the parts can be replaced should they fail. This is a fantastic all in one unit with more weather data than you can shake a stick at....and I want one!!....you won,t be disappointed!
  23. Nothing is nailed until it happens! How many times have we been here.
