Worst "cold" spell ever?
-
Plenty of time for that snow line to change track for Thursday afternoon.Minor adjustments is all that is needed for a south eastern hit.Radar watch!
You mean 'sleet line'.

Just noticed that this is my 300th post, considering I joined the forum in Feb 2005, not exactly prolific am I?
I joined in Feb 2005 too, must have been a good month

After Thursday, I'll be signing up to to the "roll on spring" brigade. I give up with our useless winters. My son will be 3 years old next winter, and he doesn't even know what snow looks like or feels like. Sad times.

Nice streamer towards the far SE of our region atm http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
Not producing much though judging by the lack of thrilled Kent folk on this thread!
-
Plenty of rain and sleet as usual in Caroline Crapwood's forecast.
-
Welcome to the rain, sleet and wintry showers thread.

should not have to worry about marginality, all we need is precip.
Surface temps forecasted at 5-6C so how can marginality not be an issue? Maybe I'm missing something here?

UK weather is the most interesting, yet the most boring at the same time..
Interesting in the sense that it's very unpredictable day to day compared to other parts of the world..
Boring in the sense that our winters are not cold enough, our summers are not hot enough, rarely any decent thunderstorms.. just always seems the same.

I'm certain we'll see a downgrade to the MetO warnings today, or at least to the wording which will further confine any significant showers to the Easternmost coasts only.
Feels like the 90s again
-
Latest BBC forecast is very unflattering. Next few days mainly dry, temps 5-6C. Nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year. So when exactly does this cold spell begin?

Can't see where any significant ppn is coming from for tonight. The area of ppn in Eastern Scotland isn't even crossing the border into England let alone making it all the way down south.
-
this was the forecast, as is the video on this link.... i guess others can judge
Wow, that is a dire forecast!
-
We are close to a true beast at 204...prob won't get it knowing our luck
We're struggling to forecast tonight let alone T+204

Been keeping an eye on Tuesday for the last few days; seems to have had snow predicted for a while now - is that looking like a "good" day still for the SE?
My advice is to treat the Met Office warnings like the holy grail. They won't issue a warning at short notice unless they feel it's highly likely, and they tend to be spot-on with their short term forecasting.
-
If you were to ask me now what my least favourite weather is, I would point outside.
Cold, dull, WET!
-
Pure drizzle here. A fairly standard winter cold spell I would say.
-
MetO are forecasting that any precipitation during today will fall as rain or sleet in our region. I have no reason to disbelieve them, their forecasting has been pretty spot on so far. Temps of 4-5C simply not good enough.
-
If there's anything the last few winters have taught me, it's that the Met Office is well worth my tax money!

What time do the MetO update their weather warnings? Or just as and when?
-
Yep just the usual. The stuff last night and early hours all slipped to the east! Anything here was too light to be snow. Not surprised LB is as dry as Istanbul on average!!
I've been to Istanbul in the winter and I'd be happy to get even a small fraction of the snowfall they get over there every year!
So, we're in the coldest part of the year, we have an "arctic blast", yet we still get mostly rain and temps between 5-7C. What hope do we have?

Latest BBC forecast in a nutshell:
Sleet today, rain weekend, cold and sunny next week.
Snow is clearly never an option in these parts.
-
For anyone looking at Sundays warning on the met..
Loos like they are going for a "wish bone" effect..
I think the showers WILL push much further inland than that...
Why? Just a hunch?
-
We'll see some colder weather at the end of next week thankfully but certainly no "Big Freeze" on the way. And snow prospects look modest at best. But certainly an improvement on recent "winters".

By the time the snow begins to settle on the wet ground (if at all), the front would be on it's back edge or already petering out.
I'll enjoy seeing the snow falling but that's as far as it will go unfortunately.
At least for now.
