I'll just put these toys in my pram, so I can be ready to throw them out tonight

Snowing again
Even yamkin sounds fed up!
-
Bad news - and I'm not one to slag of the BBC just because they don't show what I want - but they have already been very wrong so far, so hope springs eternal ;-)
On Friday they predicted sleet for our region today, whilst this forum was still speaking of shovels and sledges. Give them some credit.

We're scraping the barrel in desperation. Sad times for SE weather

blizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzarddddd
Slizzard

Can't fault the Met Office today really
-
Moderate sleet/snow, not even threatening to settle here in N London
-
Not sure if anybody is watching the latest GFS,but a nice undercut for fri at the mo,with a nice easterly flow
If the models are struggling to predict the weather in 1-2 hours time, I wouldn't be too excited about 5 days.

I've endured some pretty depressing cold spells in my 8 years on NW, but this one is right up there. It isn't even cold for a start. Snow has been downgraded more times than Greece's credit rating. Disappointing but I'm keeping the faith for later in the week.

Re Monday, the Meto/BBC first predicted rain/sleet for the SE yesterday morning, long before we had a clue here about the warm sector.. The Meto must have access to significantly more information than us the general public? That was a very good call in hindsight..
-
Ground temps just not cold enough at the mo. Not reminiscent of a cold spell at all
-
Do you think lying snow can really tilt this to being more snow then rain?
I think this could be one of those where snow settles on grass and cars, but not on roads and pavements.

Please expand then on the data so others can see your viewpoint, otherwise this thread seems more appropriate for that kind of post:
The smart money will be buying shares in that thread the way things are going!
Would love to be wrong though
-
The same reason that others are guessing the same based on data output
-
Right so I'm guessing that's Monday/Tuesday crossed off the list... Time to focus on Wednesday?
-
Rain/sleet looking nailed on for SE
-
I want snow as much as the next snow lover, I just dont wanna get caught up in the hysteria when sometimes we need some reality
Excellent post Steve

I don't understand why people get so excited about Countryfile forecasts. We're told not to believe the current 24-48 hour forecasts on BBC News, but yet people can't wait to see the 7-day outlook by the very same institution?
-
Even if we do get a modest accumulation of snow on Mon/Tues, I can't see it staying on the ground fore longer than a day. Ground temps 2-3C plenty of sunshine..
-
Silly idea to split up the thread.. The information pool has effectively been halved.
-
Who's surprised? Certainly not me. I tried to warn of this probable outcome, only to be ridiculed and labelled a "troll" by Paul Sherman. Who looks silly now?
-
No chance 2nd band will be rain/sleet in kent, the upper will be -8, it will be snow. if its not i will eat my hat.
Why do the BBC persist on it? I mean, the forecaster actually sat there and knowingly put rain graphics.. What are they seeing that we are not?
-
As someone pointed out earlier, the BBC TV forecasts are saying the first front will be too weak, and the second front will fall as rain/sleet in our region..
-
When was the last time we had a significant snow accumulation on top of an existing significant snow accumulation (a proper top-up, if you like)? Feb 1992 1991?

That's the issue. If we had stuck to good old-fashioned BBC / ITV news forecasts we wouldn't be so disappointed, because we would have expected rain/sleet, rather than being brainwashed into believing that we would be needing shovels and sledges today.
