  1. yeh - it was literally minutes here on Wirral probably the smallest "Frontal snow" event ive ever witnessed. I think it lasted 90 seconds
  2. Get the feeling the radar is amplifying the intensity... in real world we would be hearing of sudden flooding from this Im hearing instead bit of snow mixed into rain... odd
  3. Turned back to sleet on wirral... temp has dropped too.. Gives alot of hope to people east of here
  4. would also point out the rain band on the NW radar is about 20-30 miles behind where it actually is... its literally only started here, radar says its now over warrington
  5. yeh, was having a beer outside last night with a neighbour - it was -2*C and I felt hopeful. Waking this morning to see it had warmed through the night and risen to over 2*c wiped any hope for me. Firmly believe is a cold spell for the hills only now Didnt even get a frost - a few things iced up then presumably thawed just as quickly
  6. Mines on top of the shed - not great for warmth, but a good 5-6 metres away from my house for winter warmth, temps usually are pretty accurate fr the local area.
  7. -0.1*c sub zero on Wirral DP near -2 If we can hold onto the cold air til 9am, we might see some flakes first thing. Shame the cold front behind it to make the Warm front occluded - could have been interesting. Focus instead goes to tht sneaky little feature expected to run through north wales to Kent... can we get something from that i wonder
  8. Well 2 snowfalls in a day is rare for these parts. The radar exploded earlier for an hour. Completley unexpected. Gave another dusting followed by ice pellets. Thats snow every sunday for maybe 3 or 4 weekends.. again rare. Volume was pitiful but evrywhere went white. Maybe 0.5cm depth. Was fun to see. Still bitter out there
  9. Nope, its quite bright too .. has gone a bit more grey this past 10 mins or so, but i suspect this will be it for today.
  10. Bbc and met must have a line of code in their forecast generation that intergrates with the radar output. Hence why weve been getting nowcasts of snow popping up when previously forecast as dry. Today has really exploited that flaw. Its disapointing, but an inevitable choice for a look and feel of accuracy to the public. For us, we know the snow is probably not coming. The models have for days been saying so.
  11. Wouldnt pay too much attention to the leading edge, likely to be incorrect as was the front the other week... the actual snow is likely about 100miles west of that. Currently we are about 10-20miles from the front edge and the sun is out with lots of high fuzzy cloud
  12. whereas the BBC have upgraded their forecast, was 3 hrs of snow before, now over 6 hrs... As Chris says - Nowcasting (is that what this winter will be known for)
  13. an air of upgrade to the models this morning for some snow tomorrow, certainly for the south of the region. The models have had a habit of getting extents wrong recently, could there be some surprises tomorrow?
  14. yeh the bbc have been like this... forecast for dry days... then apply a nowcast element. Its happened about 10 times this week. Showers move in, the radar looks full, and the forecsast goes from dry to light snow for the next hour... Almost a 1984 element of rewriting stories to fit reality so they build credibility.
  15. The form horse has been not to be in a weather warning this year... this could be to our advantage
  16. Lets face it, its either going to snow North west, East or south of us... CAn they do figure of 8 warning areas?
  17. This is pretty bonkers compared to me, I live within maybe 10 miles of both of these areas, (Halewood is about 6km away) , and arguably we live furter in Land. yet my records are vastly different. Ive even checked photos i took. ? Feb 2006 - 10 cm; Ahh - you mean March 12th 2006. we had about 12cm. from a stalled front from the west 23 Dec 2009 - 10 cm; I think we managed about 6cm 13th Jan 2010 - 5 cm; about the same 18th Feb 2010 - 2 cm; Cant remember this one 21st Feb 2010 - 5 cm; Neithr this one 25th Jan 2013 - 5 cm; yeh we had snow every friday for about 3 weeks... these two where the biggest if I remember correctly 13th Feb 2013 - 5 cm; ^ 21st March 2013 - 5 cm; we had about 2cm. We went to Hong Kong the following day. I took My Prince2 Foundation exam on this day on the outskirts of Chester, I remember we had maybe a dusting, Ellesmere port had none as I drove on the M53 through it to the exam centre. Chester had about 7cm. Where as Broughton 6 miles south of where I live had 40cm in one night. 8th March 2018 - 10 cm; we had less than 2cm it was mostly Dry. Snow would pump up from the south east and die between chester and wales. 18th Jan 2019 - dusting— several hours heavy snow followed by ice pellets; Less than 1cm 22nd Jan 2019 - dusting - several hours heavy snow. Less than 1cm Its so infuriating that we come so close ...every ...time.... My neice is 9 going on 10. Shes never made a snowman in her garden, never been sledging. never seen deep snow.
  18. I love hearing people enjoying a cold spell as we normally do on the wirral. Most cold spells go by without getting any lying snow for us. The last time we had a decent covering (greater than 1cm) was 2014. We do occasionally get a covering, but you cant even make footprints in them theyre that light...
  19. back to clear skies here, if these showers have been triggered by convecton and the strengthening sun, then theres a good chance there will be more to come. Back to bright sunshine and clear skies here on Wirral
