  1. I maxed out at 28.2C today, up from the 27.9C recorded yesterday. I imagine the national high will come in at around the 29.5C mark. We should be able to match that tomorrow (if not slightly increase on it) to give us the all time October high record !
  2. Another thundersnow report from the 28th Jan 2004 event. The most intense period of snowfall I have been in. Walking home from school I thought I saw a flash of lightning, but it wasn't until the thunder boomed that I knew what was happening. Memorable.
  3. Jupiter was very bright the other week. Quite high in the sky. Slightly towards the east.
  4. Worth mentioning that there was an announcement earlier this week by ESO. Over 50 new exoplanets disocvered, including a "Super Earth" located just inside the habitable zone of the star. http://www.space.com/12915-habitable-alien-planet-hd-85512b-super-earth.html
  5. Exciting discovery of a first "circumbinary planet". It appears to be in a stable orbit around two stars, which are in a very close binary system, that have a combined of just 90% that of our sun. As the two stars are so close together you could just assume that they were one. Issues with climate and geology would arise if the planet orbited one of the stars in the binary. There wouldn't be any adverse gravitational pull as the stars and planets orbit a center of mass known as the barycenter.
  6. Agreed. The shipping forecasts will be worth keeping an eye. Potential for hurricane force winds getting a mention. But nothing too unusual for NW Scotland.
  7. Amazing pics and video footage. A step up on the dust devils seen near Amarillo on tour one ! Would love to see the haboob in real life. Such an ominous sight !
  8. I'm relying on this thread for lightning. Haven't seen any since tour one !
  9. I'm always on space.com, the beeb science section and other sites looking for interesting new theories and findings. Check this out http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14372387 . Potential evidence of a multiverse through further examination of WMAP data. This had been alluded to before, but it seems cosmologists / physicists are taking it more seriously now. Exciting stuff.
  10. Been teased all day by showers and now we have some thunder from a cell that is to the north and east which is no good lol.
  11. Such a strange day. Had multiple showers go up and produce those heavy rain drops you associate with thunderstorms, but not quite having the enrgy to become anything more than a brief downpour. Ooohh...finally had a rumble.
  12. Another cell shot up in this area and produced a heavy downpour just now. Nothing electrical.
  13. Looks like i'm the initiation point for fun further east. Seen that happen before lol.
  14. A shower overhead. Nothing thundery or particularly heavy, but some action at last
  15. Hey Paul, I may do. I'll probably leave it quite late and decide then. Cambs is always a good spot, but i'd rather not push that far. Still annoyed I missed the funnel Warwick/Leamington way the other week lol.
  16. It is a fascinating subject, probably the most fascinating subject, as physicists attempt to put together a theory of everything. The fact that you would get a set of completely different answers to your question from leading physicists around the world just goes to show how little we know (despite our advances in recent times). For what it's worth, and i'm no physicist just a someone with a keen interest, I don't subscribe to the parallel universe theory. The idea that there are an infinite number of replicas of us accounting for every single possible outcome of a given event is ridiculous in my opinion. I'm warming a little to the multiverse theory, although still not totally convinced. I could see our universe acting as a satellite (on a much grander scale), as we know satellites are part of the make up of objects in our universe on all scales. The Hubble Space Telescope has paved the way for a greater knowledge of the universe, a magnificent piece of engineering. I just hope it's successor, The James Webb Space Telescope, isn't scrapped as it it promises an exciting new era of understanding.
  17. 25.6C already here and it feels very uncomfortable. Dew point at 17C. Looking forward to watching how things develop later. The main action should be east of here, but i'm hopeful.
  18. Yeah, just had a look. Doesn't look all that impressive. So i doubt we'll miss much.
  19. Experiencing a light shower at the moment. Temp at 25.3C
  20. I had my first cap bust experience in the US on tour one this year. It's disheartening that so much promise can come to nothing. Best just to see it as the potential energy it is rather than an already realised mechanism helps with the disappointment. Plenty of time for initiation yet.
  21. The rotation on that is insane. What a special sight to catch something like that in the UK.Here's hoping !
  22. Still thinking of starting in Banbury then moving east ? Just make sure you stay east of here. I'll catch the initiation and watch it all come together as it turns exciting towards cambs lol.
  23. Ha ha..good one ! Love the knitwear Mr. Fish. I want one.
