  1. well as several have already posted, elevated thunderstorms are breaking out over mid/north devon and NNWwards into the Bristol Channel grazing SW Wales....These storms will train NNW along the trough, whilst the trough itself pushes NE...This can be seen by running the radar loop for the past hour or so, indeed the trough has moved 20-40 miles NEwards during that time period..An interesting and perhaps noisy night beckons for wales, the west country, and dare I say it, the west midlands later on tonight and into the morning
  2. I was born godlike....lol....Things have deteriorated since though, to the point that my partner and kids refer to me now as 'a bit of a berk' Interested in tonight and into tomorrow for the west midlands, but only a passing interest currently but will perk up if I see higher MLCAPE values on the 12z hi-res outputs
  3. INSTALLING THUNDER..... ███████████████░░░░░░░░░░░░░ 46% DONE. Installation failed. 404 error: Storms not found **sigh**
  4. Pete, I also think that some posters are getting too hung up on SBCAPE & LI charts TBH....I would expect elevated convection to be the main player on sunday, and a looking at the lightningwizard & NW charts, then the parameters for Sunday morning/afternoon look rather good for south western & western regions
  5. hot afternoon here, looking to continue this weather for a few days with thunderstorms likely on sunday
  6. yep...a beauty...well deserving of a 'liked' status!....and definitely one for the laptop screen saver
  7. for the storm starved SE...a nice little thunderstorm has popped up near Ashford, Kent....might well see more general activity in the SE as the afternoon progesses as energy & other relevant atmospheric parameters transfer east and fall into place.....Here in the west midlands, a lightish shower as a weak trough passes through, should be dry after that
  8. Paul Sherman posted yesterday about a possible right-moving supercell in Norfolk, is this the same storm?
  9. more thunder to my east & south east (nr Walsall) and as posted in the Regionals, quite an active storm developing to the west of Worcester which is heading NEwards towards Birmingham, Wolverhampton & hopefully me!
  10. I heard that too!...lots of convection occuring here, with towers going up all over the place...we're right in the middle of an area of surface convergence which is adding extra forcing as Gord posted, eyes down to the SW...Active storm to the west of Worcester heading NEwards
  11. That's a sily thing to post Luke I'm afraid...There's been plenty of storms around, and lots of nasty flooding.....indeed it's thundering again to my east (that's 3 in 2 days) so I think your post is from a very IMBY perspective!
  12. nice little storm has fired up just to my east...a few rumbles from it, it's heading NEwards just to the east of Stafford
  13. Thunderstorm passing to my east, quite active....clearer to the sw into mid and south wales which contrary to an earlier post is good news with plenty of insolation as the trigger for all the energy and lift available...the earlier NMM outputs shows surface convergence passing into our region this afternoon and well into the night...could be very interesting to see what happens in the next few hours
  14. yep, quite loud thunder to my SE, looks to head on for Cannock...seen half a dozen or so lightning flashes so far in the same direction
  15. looks like that storm has been chasing me up the motorway!...It's about 10 miles south of my front door...might just pass to my east, but should hear some thunder from it shortly
  16. afternoon all....just got back from Devon, an absolutely horrific drive back up the M5!....Torrential rain all the way with quite a nice thunderstorm near Evesham which was producing plenty of close lightning..I could even hear th concussive blasts of thunder above the noise of the car whilst driving!
  17. lol....my other half has just phoned me to tell me she's in the middle of quite an active thunderstorm back in Penkridge....and I'm stuck in south Devon......Bugger!
  18. sods law isn't it?.....I'm in Torbay for the weekend (currently nursing a hangover from last night's excesses!...lol) and it looks like the Midlands could get some lovely thundertorms!......Well, I'm back home tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully might catch something up there then if the risk persists!
  19. Judging by the rest of your post, then the answer is an emphatic 'NO' by the looks of things! My original post and Supacell's more eloquent reply above say just about everything that needs to be said
  20. Neil, the forecast issued by Estofex was for a risk of severe weather, indeed Skywarn, Torro & NW forecasts commented on this risk...Parameters were condusive to an increased risk of severe weather...Notice the use of the word 'risk'...at no time did any forecasting organization use words to the effect of 'Definite severe weather' or '100%' chance, did they?
  21. What a strange thing to post, especially from a long-time member such as yourself.....I'm struggling to actually work out what you mean...Are you suggesting that the NW forecasters & other media forecasts just carelessly toss out convective forecasts on a whim?.....or would it be more a fair reflection to say that you're disappointed not to get a storm and you're living up to your user name, eh Neil? anyhoos, folks in south eastern counties should give their attention to the radar and to what's drifting up towards the SE from France
  22. Nice little cell has morphed into a thunderstorm to the SW of Stoke in the NW Midlands...not heading this way sadly, but nice to see something happen in the west (north west) midlands
  23. If I saw that coming my way on the radar the air would quickly be full of the pungent aroma of something brown & runny!
  24. Hi cloud10...That's not really a hook echo as such....A hook echo that would make a storm enthusiast sit up and take notice would be much tighter in size and would have a pronounced rainfall variance around the hook...What the radar run actually shows is a decaying clump of showers IMHO ...In saying that it's decaying, some lightning strikes are showing up on the southern flank of those showers near Ely
  25. which of course will morph into a supercellular, lightning bloated beast as it heads off towards lincolnshire!
