  1. So it's another classic Met Office cockup in terms relative only to your back garden?
  2. MetOffice have played an absolute blinder. It's a warning area to be prepared, and many in that area have received exactly what the MetO predicted. Well played to them.
  3. I mentioned to somebody in the Midlands thread who said something similar; Those symbols you see are based on computer interpretations of charts, not human input. Take subtle variations like that with a pinch of salt. It's very much a case of watching the radar and looking out your living room window.
  4. A) No, the system won't pep up significantly now, the opposite in fact but intensity should still be solid at times. B) Those symbols you see are based on computer interpretations of charts, not human input. Take subtle variations like that with a pinch of salt.
  5. I'm not sure where you've been reading! Some areas have already exceeded 15-20cm's! Even in the early hours roads around Loughborough/Leicester were impassable as I drove to track the front and I imagine that was childsplay compared to those further West- god knows what conditions are like now and what they will be like come this evening when all is said and done. Expect some impressive totals for those lucky ones further south and west of myself. The surprise is that central/southern England (south of the Midlands) has come into the game aswell with a slightly more southern track.
  6. I can confirm on my travels to the meet the front driving conditions became bad/next to impossible around the outskirts of Leicester with around an inch already accumulated on side roads- roads became pretty much undriveable. Was tracking the front on the radar and wanted to drive into the heavier PPN but couldn't continue on the route. I have plenty of photos which I will upload later. Followed it back to Grantham where it's just getting started so seem to have timed it perfectly.. All in all very enjoyable 3-4 hours drive but conditions were already becoming dicey with some roads unpassable (especially for unfavoured vehichles) so it's going to be a long day for some.
  7. I'm about to set off for a drive from Grantham, may head down to Northampton then across to Brum and back up through the Peak district and follow it home to Grantham. Pictures to follow.
  8. We've essentially had moderate snow all day here in Grantham, lovely to look at from inside but wouldn't like to be out in it. Odds on for a decent dusting here overnight as temps dive. (Posting here aswell as I'm original from Newark and spent all my years in this thread!) Edit: The mornings dusting which had retreated has now in fact returned on grass on other favoured surfaces in the last 20 minutes or so.

  10. Snow has turned much heavier in Grantham and radar looks good for a while- threatening to begin settling once more.
  11. Nice little surprise for many on the Eastern Flank of the UK in the early hours of the AM/dawn... short lived dusting for most I feel (even to low elevations) for many areas as the band of snow pushes down & quickly through from Northern Scotland right though NE Eng, Yorks, Lincs, E Mids, E Ang and the SE by rush hour.
  12. The organised band of sleet/snow which will travel down the Eastern flank of the UK quickly from Scotland overnight is worth keeping an eye on for those of us further East, I imagine a surprise covering for a fair few, arriving around 3-4am. Further West, a more showery affair but for those of you who happen to find yourselves in the sweet spots (as always with these setups) you will likely see something come daylight hours.
  13. Sleety mix here in Grantham, only just getting any kind of intensity. Expecting transition within an hour or two.
  14. Just turned to snow on the coast at 80m here. Not settling in a million years, though!
  15. Looking at the setup I imagine most areas of the NE & Yorkshire are likely to at least see a wintry mix. A little elevation is always going to help and I'd imagine a widespread covering above 200m or so.
  16. Is that trafalgar sq? And yeah- snowing again here just off the Esplanade, radar really beginning to organise itself now- interesting few hours ahead, perhaps a couple cm's from these.
  17. As predicted we have our first official dusting here in Scarborough- long overdue and it's coming down heavily.
  18. Expecting a light dusting overnight- first shower in recent times on my doorstep. Will be good to see a small amount of lying snow before Spring sets in.
  19. Early sleet & wet snow has given way to moderate, frequent and prolonged snow showers here in Scarborough. Too marginal to accumulate, even on favoured surfaces- but nice to see and I expect this to continue overnight with perhaps a dusting by dawn.
  20. It's all just a little too marginal for those away from 200m+ - I can see an all rain event at lower elevations irrespective of location. Frustating that this PPN will stall and stick around for most of the day tomorrow. Pennines will get pasted.
  21. Cold rain here in Scarbs as expected. Tempted by Olivers Mount still but expect a sleety mess up there.
  22. Radar looking fairly organised now, as PIT said... I imagine NW/N/Central Yorks is likely to see a further dusting tonight- snow away from immediate coasts, elevated locations as ever favoured. I may nip up Oliver's Mount during any showers tonight (3 minute drive), but at approx 150m I'm not convinced this close to the coast.
  23. Cloud just thick enough here in Scarbs for a very light flurry. Quickly fizzled out.
  24. I'm expecting a hail/sleet mix from mid evening onwards. Imagine Olivers Mount and the like may manage a dusting.
