  1. We have very light snow falling almost vertically. Good job I look out the window occasionally cos the radar is ignoring this one completely.
  2. We've crept up to -1.5C now as darkness approaches... (How dark is the night?) Q is, will we keep below 0C till 00.00?
  3. -7C overnight, now -5C. Chilly. The neighbourhood seems to be having an extra long lie this morning!
  4. The Scotland - Germany game would be a cracker to go to, especially with it being in Munich. Switzerland in Cologne too, but I'm not sure about going anywhere near Hungary Currently -6C here and dropping fairly steadily. Could be in for a long cold night! We were on the beach earlier - always good to see the waves lapping at the frosted sand....
  5. No snow, overnight min at -5C, now -2C so and ice day I'd say. Cracking photos last night from @JamesM
  6. But you ARE inland!! Heck, man, the state of the tide is significant here!
  7. Temps on the Black Isle range from a coastal -2C (eg here) down to probably around -5C typically inland (eg Munlochy). So a chilly evening but nothing spectacular. Forecast to be colder tomorrow night I think, then it's back to more like 'seasonal averages' as they say.
  8. Don't talk to me about anaprop. Hours I've spent staring at radar, looking out the window and... zippo. <grinds teeth>
  9. Oregon Scientific was the weather station I had. Nice trustworthy-sounding American name, cheap and nasty Chinese crap inside. We're utter mugs, buying stuff like this that only exists to transfer wealth from Scotland to China.
  10. And we take the jaffa cakes when bits of southern England grind to a halt in similar conditions... Not the jaffa cakes! No, save me from the jaffa cakes!
  11. Re weather stations... I bought a half decent one many years ago. At least, it had separate sensors for rain, temp, wind. The base station would talk to a laptop so you could draw nice plots of parameters over time etc., all seemed pretty cool for a couple of years, then the sensors failed one by one, so I was left with a pile of unrecyclable hard plastic and rotting electronics. What I would recommend now would be to get an old-fashioned min/max thermometer and site it very carefully, maybe even splash out on 2 cos one of them is always going to either get sun reflected onto it or something to mess up the readings. Also get a funnel type calibrated rain gauge with decent capacity - the sort with no moving parts. And not bother with an anemometer unless you've got somewhere suitable away from buildings, trees etc., which is unlikely near to your house. Unless you live in a tent. I see plenty of weather stations badly sited and wonder, why effing bother, really.... Just more waste.
  12. I could see @Northernlights's rain/sleet/snow this morning - dark sky to the east, much brighter to the west. Just grey, 3C, barely any wind, some light drizzle. Wonderful.
  13. The radar suggested it was snowing here a couple of hours ago. It was - and still is - bone dry.
  14. 2C here and drizabone. Ms HC was reminiscing earlier about November party nights 20 years ago when you'd set off mid evening in the snow, wondering if you were going to make it home! Easter Ross was generally regarded as safe, Sutherland was pushing your luck.
  15. We've been in this place for more than 20 years now and really the lack of snow is the only downer. Ms HC wouldn't leave the village and there's now lots of pressure on the market here from people buying houses to let as holiday homes..... This didn't exist here 20 years ago, or not on any scale, but now, the village is largely occupied by people like us - young families look at the place and either think, no thanks, or can't afford it. Or both I spose. There's more to it though - I just checked local school roll trends and primary school roll is going up, secondary is going down. Hang on though, the sky's clearing!
  16. Ok, all youse with yer 'with elevation' and 'away from coasts', youse all getting blocked NOW. That's it. Well, ok, not really. Just perennially jealous. <gnaws knuckles>
  17. 6C and light rain off a north-easterly breeze. What a way to start the week. Guess what, the stove's on!
  18. Hmm yr.noyoufkndon't has sleet, no snow. No no no. Oh no you fkn don't you scummy beach-dweller...
  19. I'm in 2 minds about this.... Be good to see the frost but OTOH I don't want a massive heating bill!!
