  1. Can't see what there is to worry about, boxing day onwards will be our time...
  2. Don't think anyone can be proved right or wrong yet, it hasn't happened. What happens beyond Fri/Sat appears to be very much up for grabs at the moment...
  3. Slightly confused by one or two posts, as I understand it, any arctic blast (as described in the beeb forecast), is still 5/6 days away, even they don't know what happens beyond that. Not only that, I was under the impression that the jet stream is also modeled, so it's forecast position on x date could well be different tomorrow to what it is today, and even then any forecast can be wrong. I've also been climbing/mountaineering many places, but never once looked at a jetstream forecast before setting out...
  4. Indeed, as I think has been said before, far too much emphasis put on the strat, it isn't the be all and end all, merely part of a very complex puzzle. To say we can't and won't get anything sustained is not in my view correct. Sure it helps, and we have seen plenty of evidence of that in the not too distant past. But I don't think it's as simple as 'strat says no'. Anyway, I'll get my coat...
  5. Could have guessed what the model thread would be full of following the 12zs, usual know it all posts 'told you so', which there is no justification for yet. A lot will have egg on their faces by the end of winter I feel. The way some go on, they should be working at the met office, as you say, there are at most half a dozen posters worth paying any attention to. But as we know, it's all about footfall.
  6. Far too fraught in the model thread, post Christmas the real fun and games will begin...
  7. I must be living in a parallel universe, it is cold and continues to be so. Even with the brief 'warm up' if it can be called that, has temps recovering to where they should be before dropping again, as demonstrated by the beeb last night. I still haven't seen the much vaunted barty or south westerlies, we were promised a while back.
  8. Think you said a similar thing in not so many words earlier today and yesterday...Really not worth worrying about at that timeframe.
  9. Do we need a pattern change, strikes me as being an autumnal pattern. Things seem to be moving long just nicely...
  10. Hyperbole no doubt, but 1987 was a diffferent century Gav.
  11. Win win as far as I''m concerned, at this time of year if it ain't cold, it's usually wet and vice versa, plus the days are short and dark - wonderful! As has been said, it's only mid October, plenty of time for the cold to arrive, and plenty more long dark nights to come.
  12. One Victorian novelist didn't, but the Victorians did, with Christmas cards and carols with the traditional view of Christmas, anyway, completely wrong thread, apologies.
  13. Nothing wrong with that, bring em on, the darker the better!
  14. Captain and Dancer you've both missed the point... Or perhaps you haven't :-D
  15. Looks like the wheels come off as early as Tuesday on the GFS. So we've gone from 20 summery days (haven't seen one yet due to cloud), to looking forward to snow on the hilltops!
  16. Wise words, otherwise you could end up thinking we are in the middle of a heatwave, when the reality is temps around 22c, cloudy with rain at times. Even this 'one day wonder' isn't delivering much of note. The models make fools out of no-one, that is left to ourselves...
  17. Well GFS has churned out some interesting runs today, nothing special showing any of them, except standard late August weather. Would be surprised if countryfile forecast mentions anything other than that.
  18. Indeed, I used to enjoy Frostys objective posts, giving a very balanced view of what was on offer. However, this summer seems to have had an agenda, bit of a shame really. But yes the ongoing 'battle' in the model thread becomes very tiresome.
  19. Nice charts this evening. I love the drive home this time of year, days gradually getting shorter, summer slowly fading and ebbing away, brilliant!
  20. Meanwhile in the reliable timeframe, looks wet and thundery tomorrow, fairly cool in the rain, better day Sunday(in the east), then cool, blustery and wet into next week, fantabulous!
  21. It did not reach 28c here on 19 consecutive days, nothing like it. Nor have I said it isn't warm, geez read the post.
  22. Not too long after its all change by the looks of things, it will all be but a distant memory... Not that its been much to shout about in the east in the first place.
