The UKV would agree with you
Ooh la la, I think it's time to start scouting some locations with decent views, It all comes down to this evening to salvage 2023, we need to make this count

The more I look at the two areas of activity in the channel the less worried I'm becoming, as others have said, they don't appear to be eating up too much fuel, and I believe the higher CAPE levels will arrive later onto the evening
All to play for if you ask me

Total protonic reversal sounds amazing! What does that mean? Also, where will you go with your camera? We are thinking Poole?
It does sound amazing, but I was just joking
It's a Ghostbusters reference and not really relevant when it comes to the weather, even though you could say it's been a ghost storm season when it comes to central southern areas, so sorry, I'm just getting a giddy

Need 'em all to slow down just a tiny bit! Got a roast to cook, and the sun doesn't set for another 3 hrs 15 mins!
I know, you might just squeeze a nice golden hour storm, but the one I mentioned isn't hanging about.
This still might not be the main event so there is that, but I might be totally wrong

Will take a drive to Milford on sea, seeing this could be the last one it’s worth the effort
I thought you'd be heading east, I'd say there's a much better chance between IOW and Kent later in the evening, especially if you're intending to photograph the storms, but Milford on sea is not a bad spot either way, good luck

Yes I think we will be too far west sadly by the time these make landfall
Are these the storms that were originally showing on yesterday's runs? I thought 7pm onwards was when storms were expected to develop.
The ones that are heading towards CS areas will be here way before the sun goes down
Give me strength

I'm currently sheltering on Barton on sea clifftop, it's mostly thundery rain, with the odd CG thrown in
It's better than nothing I guess

I can’t speak a word of French so I don’t know what any of it says but I imagine it’s something along the lines of
”Another day of heavy thunderstorms, straight ahead. Ooh la La. Cloud cover at the marketplace. Will it ever stop? What time is it? One ticket to Paris, please. Possible hail. Yes, of course. No, just two loaves of bread. There’s a potential for severe gusts. What is your name? I live in England. Showers will continue after midnight. Please.”

UKv 6z now showing something better for central southern areas, we need this trend to continue, I really don't want to drive too far tonight

Absolute troll of a model. It's completely removed any chance for us tonight, so I'm back to feeling justified in throwing in the towel on Friday!
Yeah, it's a bit of a letdown this morning, I'll wait for todays convective discussions/forecast to be released before deciding if it's worth travelling further east this evening
There was one night earlier this year where I thought about heading towards Kent, but there was a risk of the storms not hitting the southeast so I didn't bother, it actually was quite a decent spell for many parts over that way, I think Eagle Eye did well that evening, I don't want to have the same regret so I'm really hoping for some positive updates today

UKV is a disaster after this mornings round, nothing apart from a tiny Kent clipper.
Oh dear, the 00z was the same.
There appears to be a lot more messy rain following on behind the main band coming out of France, I wonder if that is what is killing our chances for this evening

Pretty saturated sounding from Camborne this morning which might explain why the electrical aspects of the storms didn't make it too far inland. Like @Ben Sainsbury said, I'm a bit surprised at just how active they were.
They were definitely recycling quite a bit, you'd have a few minutes where the cell would become very active before dying off, then around 10/15 minutes later you could see activity increase again, lovely to watch

What a pleasant surprise for many of you guys in the southwest, I woke up around 4am and had a sneaky peek out of the window and was greeted with the view of cells to my west flashing away like crazy!
I couldn't miss an opportunity to get some shots so I headed down to Mudeford quay and managed to get a couple of decent photos before daylight become too bright.
All in all, if this morning activity is anything to go by, we could be in for a great 24 hours

Wow, I can see the cells flashing away from here in Christchurch east Dorset, very active as from what I can see.
Very encouraging start to the day and it's looking like storms are starting to form near Cherbourg as well

18z out now and actually, it is fairly similar!
I thought I'd seen the 18z at first but I refreshed and only the 15z was loading, very strange..
Anyway, good news that the 15 and 18z are looking similar, how are your conference levels doing? You seemed to have thrown In the towel yesterday, I have to admit to feeling like we were in for another letdown, which may still be the case of course, but todays updates have made me feel better about tomorrows chances
I'm just scared to charge the camera in case I jinx it

I'm waiting to wake up tomorrow to grey skies and drizzle with 2 strikes over the channel
Don't you just know it
In all seriousness, it's tomorrow night's storms that I'm more interested in sonim happy to see they are being modelled in a decent locality for me , the ones kicking off around noon will be a nice bonus, which I'll try and film if I can. as photographing lightning during daylight hours is next to impossible, I've only ever managed to get one phot during the daytime
The good thing is there seems to be a few opportunities across I fairly wide area, hope you manage to get something out of this!

I have a feeling you'll get some really good captures. No real reason why, just a feeling.
Thanks, I hope you're right, you're not in a bad spot yourself looking at the risk area, I expect you'll get some nice shots also
Tomorrow can't come quick enough
