  1. Well, I'm going for cool spring and hot dry summer. Drought for the East.
  2. Not a great fan of last year. Areas further N/E of here did much better. Rapid thaw on high ground on the 8th, not much snow after that. Previous winter better here. Still not a patch on great winters of the past
  3. Not looking great for the NE yet again. According to MEto rainfall model. Maybe light shrs later in the day. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/beta/weather/forecast/?tab=map Longer term, struggling to see where any significant snow will come from the rest of this year.
  4. Not the best forecast from the Meto again. Amber warning for snow in S Scotland issued in the middle of the night. Looks to worse hit than the areas related to the low pressure in the South.
  5. These cold weather alerts appear a utter load of rubbish. High chance of occasional shrs. Wow. Its hardly the 4 min warning.
  6. Just a bit further North in North Pennines. Those further South should take a drive up someday, you'll be surprised how much colder and snowier on average it is.
  7. If you look at the stats the Lakes are surprisingly sunny. Lowest annual sunshine totals are in the Pennines. Cloud from both directions plus more convection cloud in the summer. Here for example we can have hill fog from both East and West. I do think lowland/urban NE does have a very favourable climate only when the wind has a Easterly aspect does it suffer. Working in Cumbria and living in Teesdale I see the best of each side of the Pennines.
  8. 05/06 had a decent end which ran into March. Remember later spells you can actually see them, lack of daylight hrs at this time of year.
  9. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ There's still around 30% of 12z GFS runs want to take low in the Midlands.
  10. Snow for Yorkshire http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ Actually there's been a decent covering on the extreme N border with Country Durham last few days.
  11. Thin covering, with light snow shrs. Temp 1.3C, Highest wind speed of year recorded last night 59mph, anemometer not best positioned so probably higher in reality.
  12. Its open passable with care, drifting snow. Few degrees warmer than Meto was forecasting last night resulted snow level much higher.
  13. Thin covering here.Much milder night than forecast.Models medium term looking more settled and dry. Good chance of another drier than average month. The weather word of next year could be drought.
  14. Temp falling fairly quickly now, from 2.3C at 2100z to 1.6C now.
  15. The last 12 months have lacked any significant cold snowy spell. I'd be surprised if this continues, next year hopefully will provide more exciting weather than 2011.
  16. Much milder than forecast, freezing level must be around 600m asl + at present
  17. Mucher milder day than I was expecting. Currently 2.4C, not convinced its going to snow here never mind for those further East. After the countryfile forecast on Sunday I was hoping for a dynamic, wet and wintry week. Looks very little in the way of rainfall the next week, according to GFS.
  18. Yes, could a windy night. Meto for here 2100z 1C heavy snow, wind gusting 62mph. Unlikely but you never know.
  19. Snow shrs with winds 60/70mph, should mean a busy night in here.
  20. Hail/graupel in the shrs, thin covering. Temp 1.3C Meto going severe spell of weather this evening
  21. Well said, look how the area's of concern have shifted in the last 24 hrs. More upland snow, more flooding with the snow melt and heavy rain later in the week.
  22. Looks a decent start to winter for Lake District Ski club, best conditions in England. Pics show how severe the drifting has been. Hopefully better season than last year for N England. http://www.facebook.com/...i-Club/257241564287437#!/photo.php?fbid=323324541012472&set=a.323324454345814.89254.257241564287437&type=1&theater Mark
  23. Just going below freezing, penetrating frost tonight with the breeze. Snow Shrs tracked mostly just to South into N Yorkshire.
