  1. Still in the sunshine? Cloudy, wet, 9.4mm so far today
  2. Thanks. Looking at vis sat images lee waves looked to have formed downwind of the Welsh Mts and S Pennines, but not yet further north? http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/beta/weather/observations/?tab=map
  3. You've got to wonder why the Meto didn't put N Wales in the Amber warning area?
  4. Odd mid 50's mph in the NE at present, glad its sunny and warm with you. Shrs here, temp 13.8C. Max gust 43mph but my location on leeward side of a ridge means its very very gust/turbulent. Wind direction can flip 180 degrees in a few seconds and from calm to 40mph just as quick at present.
  5. Latest BBC forecast now mentions gusts perhaps up to 70 mph even as far South as N Wales and N Midlands http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/
  6. BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/hi/news/newsid_9587000/9587678.stm
  7. 70/80mph gusts could cause a considerable number of trees to fall, with knock on effects regarding power etc. The main issue in this event is that the trees are in full leaf. Regarding the May 2011 low which hit Scotland the highest gusts mentioned on Met monthly review are 77mph and 84mph. http://www.metoffice...k/2011/may.html 100mph might have been recorded above 600m asl
  8. I would imagine its more to do with lee wave gusts off the N Pennines.
  9. Meto just updated warnings. Amber warnings now extend into N England, no mention of wind speeds. http://www.metoffice...t_warnings.html
  10. Bizzare winter the last one. Probably had more snowfall here in November than the entire winter. No heavy snowfall after 3rd Dec. Although cold ,there wasn't much snowfall in Dec after the first few days in December. The rapid thaw around 9th Dec mean the rest of month we only had a few cm. I wouldn't be surprised if this coming winter is much milder yet produce many more snowfall events here.
  11. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/brack1.gif Slightly deeper than 00 run.
  12. Flash in Staffordshire has the highest school in the UK, at approx 465m asl. There are a few school in the N Pennines also higher than the Foxhill Primary near Mountain. Flash also has the highest church.
  13. Meto Fax, has a more southerly track for now. http://www.wetterzen...pics/brack3.gif http://www.wetterzen...pics/brack4.gif
  14. Cloudy, bright skies towards the East. Currently 9.9C Low 9.2C
  15. Wet beginning and end to the day, which will be the second wettest day of the year so far here. 36mm
  16. Long sunny spells after early rain, shrs increasing in frequency now. Max 13.4 early this morning. 21.6mm so far today. Currently 10.6C heavy rain. Max gust 45mph
  17. By the end of this week you could be well over 100mm for the month so far. Not as wet this side of the Pennines as would expect, 16.2mm here. Further East it declines further 7mm at Copley just 5mm at Newton Ayecliffe. Wind not bad here as we are sheltered from SW due ridge and tree plantation, wind should pick up as it goes round more to WNW later today. Temp 12.9C
  18. Best day in a few weeks, some sunny spells esp in the morning and now again towards the end of the afternoon. Warm as well. max 18.4C
  19. Mucher brighter this afternoon, still mostly cloudy though. Max temp 15.9C
  20. Cool, cloudy month but some decent usable days. Average rainfall, yet another month with no really wet day. Ave mean 12.7C Ave max 16.4C ave min 9C High max 25.6 Low min 5.8C Rainfall 88.4mm Rain days 26 Westest 24 hrs 13.4mm
  21. Jan 1940 was snowy in the Lakes according article in Weather Jan 1997, it mentions 4m deep drifts on the side of Ullswater and Ambleside been cut off from the N. Here in Teesdale the last few winters have brought some heavy snowfalls but these pale into insignificance compared to the winter of 1979 and the record breaking 1947.
  22. Perhaps an increasing chance of a very unsettled weekend for Northern UK. Meto invent just updated. Low is still much closer to East coast than Fax, then develops of Eastern Scotland, this appears more inline with GEM and GME outputs. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rgme541.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rgme601.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rgem481.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rgem601.gif BBC now mentioning gales for Scotland over the weekend.
  23. Rain, but cloud base lifted. Warming up slowly. Temp 14.3C Rain 11.8mm
  24. Cloudy, light shrs. Temp 13.4C Role on September and hopefully some dry warm sunny weather.
