  1. Been to Newcastle/Durham today much brighter in comparsion. Here, Hill fog, drizzle, vis approx 50m Max at the present with 9.9C
  2. Far too windy here for a low min despite clear skies, wind gusting up to 30mph overnight. Low 3.8C. Stark contrast to the conditions on the other side of the Pennines in Eastern Cumbria, light winds and fog. Shap was -2.8C at 0700z. With fog in the Eden Valley and Solway Firth area, these areas could have a chilly day if fog persists
  3. Breezy night winds gusting 36mph from a steady 20mph westerly wind descending the Pennines. Temp 5.6C
  4. Mild, drier than average month. Expectional warmth on first day, no real cold. Mean 9.4C Mean max 12.3C Mean min 6.7C Max 24.1C Min -0.2C Highest min 12.4C Lowest max 7.5C Rainfall 89.4mm Rain days 22
  5. Odd patch of brightness now gone. Misty, fog from lower down the valley trying to push in this direction. Low 4.8C Currently 5.9C
  6. Complete contrast to yesterday morning. Classic autumnal start sunny skies, mist in the valley below, light winds. Low 3.8C Currently 4.4C
  7. Dark,hill fog vis ,<50m, drizzle. Wind SE F3 gusting 31mph overnight Temp 9.9C Low 8.7C 4mm overnight
  8. Cloudy, dull, better than yesterdays fog. Temp 8.7c Low 8.5 Wind F4 gusting 34mph
  9. 1995/96 was an excellent winter for the Pennines. Preferred that winter to any of the last 3. It had a mixture of everything intense cold, mild start to Jan, then a snowy spell over the next few weeks. Drifts lasting into late June on Cross Fell. Just didn't enjoy last winter. If you had told me that Dec would be sub zero month I would be excited but to honest it was boring here sunny, dry and quiet. I would put up with a mild winter month if we experienced a proper blizzard, something that's been missing the last few winters.
  10. Totally agree, after the 3rd of Dec last year little happened in the way of active weather here. All the action was eslewhere. Roll on an average winter.
  11. GFS 12z has reduced rainfall over all but the fringes of mainland Britain. Just carn't see a big enough pattern change for prolonged significant rain in Midland/Eastern areas until November at least.
  12. Air frost here, low -0.2C. But that was at 2100 yesterday evening. Wind then increased, gusting up to 19mph overnight. Wind chill down to -4.4C Currently 1.4C, in westerly breeze
  13. Down to 2.2c here. I think you'll definately see a GF and perhaps slight air frost.
  14. Sunshine and shrs today, max 7.5C Currently 5.4C Rainfall 5.6mm
  15. Little in the way of rain on GFS 00 for those drought effected areas.
  16. Temp fallen to 5.9C. 13.2mm so far today.
  17. Yes should only be a few mins now.
  18. Squall line not far away now, temp 9.3C temps should start to fall soon, rainfall intensity increasing
  19. Rain overnight. 11.6mm Low 6.2C Currently 6.6C, misty, rain.
  20. Yeap can get hill fog from both directions, tends to thicker in Easterly flows. Heaviest rainfalls also from the east
  21. There is sharp decline in annual rainfall away from ridge of N Pennines. In most westerly flows areas East of here the rainfall amount drop dramatically. Copley 10 miles East of here can get a quarter of the rainfall recieved here in westerly's. Never mind locations away from the Pennines. Just hoping for some easterly based precipatation in the next few months. After the November snowy spell, there's been very little in the way of Easterly flows
  22. Gone through the 900mm mark yesterday. Surprised have only 100mm less than you considering the near total dominance of westerly flow this year. The lack of any easterly based precipation this year is notable.
  23. Sunshine and shrs today Currently 6.4C Just reached 10mm for the day.
  24. Yes Thursday could be interesting. Just damp and dull here with mostly light rain all day, blown along on fairly strong wind. Temp 13.2C 11.8mm so far today
