  1. Dark, dull day, light rain/drizzle blowing through on SW wind Temp 13.6C 6.2mm so far today.
  2. Dull cloudy odd sunny bright spell early afternoon Temp 14.9C
  3. Wet/mild month. Mean temp 11.9C Mean max 15.6C Mean min 8.8C Highest Max 24.4C Lowest min 4.0C Rainfall 131.2mm Max 24hrs 45.2mm Rain days 21
  4. A mild start to winter 2011/12 could lead to 2011 being one of the most snowless years. Hopefully this coming winter will more balanced, not much snow after Dec 3rd here last year.
  5. Low 6.4c, sunny skies. Mod westerly wind. Temp 8.1C
  6. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rmgfs18914.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rmgfs1834.gif An increasingly warm and dry outlook esp across those already dry areas, looks like they will have wait until October for significant rainfall.
  7. Really need some southerly tracking low's crossing the Midlands to boost those area's short of rainfall this year. Here 859mm this year, 122mm this month
  8. Active squall line, down to 8.1C under rainfall rate of 46mm/min. Gusted to 41mph. 7.2mm so far today. Temp 9.1C sunny spells, odd light shr
  9. I'm sure you'll over take me before the month's out. Its only really easterly dominated months that it will be wetter here, they are rare.
  10. I'd rather have had several of the 70/80's winters than the last few. Esp 1978/79 the depth of snow far exceeded recent winters in this area. One element that has been missing from the recent cold winters are blizzards.
  11. Roadside AWS link http://www.trafficweather.info/roadWeather/rwisMap.jsp?client=18
  12. Could get a ground frost even here, if wind drops enough its still gusting 20 mph at present. Forest In Teesdale AWS. It's where the deepest recorded lying snow in the UK at an inhabited location was recorded just few hundreds away in 1947. http://maps.google.c...,313.53,,0,0.64
  13. May get ground frost ( prob first sub zero wind chill!) but location is a 400ft above valley floor so temp usually quickly drops early on then stablizes as cold air settles in valley bottom. 7mph breeze from NW. AWS at Forest in Teesdale a couple of miles away is close to valley floor and was down to 6.8C at 8pm. That's a road side AWS so thermometer will be not 1.2m closer to 3m prob.
  14. I wouldn't mind a milder winter, if it included a week long severe snowy spell. Still a waiting a proper blizzard.
  15. Much sunnier day than recently. Max 14.3C Wind dropped in last hour or so. Temp 7.7C
  16. Cloud increasing after sunshine and shrs this afternoon. Temp 9.6C
  17. Cloudy with squally shrs, odd sunny spell. Winds lighter than earlier. Temp 10.1C
  18. Dont think it that cool toinght to much wind and rain about. Thursday night does look chilly. Low 8.9C Sunny, gusty wind at present. Temp 9.6C
  19. More rain but less strong winds than I was expecting. Temp 11.6C, cloud, light rain. 16mm rain so far today
  20. Boulmer has just recorded 67mph, otherwise as you say nothing of any great note.
  21. The extreme cold was focused in the Eden Valley around Penrith northwards towards Carlisle. Keswick/Ambleside were both colder in 1940 as the report says. Higher area's such as around Alston were probably colder in Feb 1947 and Jan 1963. Here not far from Cumbria, it was coldest month since Feb 1986 with many colder months in the past
  22. Give it a another hour and Pennine lee wave should start to develop.
