  1. Snow shrs giving thin covering, temp 1.0C, looks more to come. Temps looking cooler into this afternoon
  2. Great Dun Fell is at -0.5C, so lying snow perhaps approx 700m.
  3. Your right it is snowy compared to the rest of England but I think in severe Easterly dominated winters its location well to the west of the Pennines means it just doesn't get the deep snowfalls from the East.
  4. Harwood area of Upper Teesdale probably just edges out Upper Weardale. Been closer to highest peaks its just wetter and colder than the next door valley. Alston is probably significantly snowier and colder than Shap. It does get low min but its never stuck me as a snowy location.
  5. I would be surpirsed if there is any lying snow East of the A1, unless its from a trough or convergence zone enchacing the shrs.
  6. Fairly frequent shrs here, 7.4mm precip today. Odd bit of sleet in heavier shrs. Temp between 3/4C most of the time. Looks like snow shrs tomorrow afternoon onwards. Can do fairly well in a WNW flow here in regard to snowfall.
  7. Some violent storms on some of the 00z run early next week. http://176.31.229.228/modeles/gens/run/gens-1-1-174.png?0 http://176.31.229.228/modeles/gens/run/gens-6-1-150.png?0 http://176.31.229.228/modeles/gens/run/gens-10-1-150.png?0 http://176.31.229.228/modeles/gens/run/gens-13-1-156.png?0 http://176.31.229.228/modeles/gens/run/gens-14-1-168.png?0 http://176.31.229.228/modeles/gens/run/gens-18-1-156.png?0
  8. Very little rainfall forecast for the driest areas for rest of this month. Southerly tracking lows across Midlands or S England or prob best best for rainfall in winter months in these areas. Westerly dominated flows mean the vast majority of rainfall occurs in the upland western areas with the Eastern parts in a rain shadow.
  9. Just 25mm here approx 20% of the average. Rainfall for rest of the month should push it up nearer 50%. GFS 12z for rest the month has very little rainfall for those parts of country that need it the most.
  10. I remember a Philip Eden article regarding the media phrase 'worst snowfall in 18 years'. Maybe in SE of England but the true bilzzards over S Scotland in Feb 2001 and NW England/SW Scotland in 1996 appear to have been erased from the journalist's mind who came up with the phrase.
  11. Really? The river levels are low for time of year in NW England, due to the low rainfall over last 4/5 weeks. Wet across W upland regions as you would expect in such a set up, but totals not that high further East in areas that need the rain. At least this will provide some dynamic weather thats been missing for so long.
  12. These charts show how the N Half of NE took the brunt of snowfall Here's the achieve fax charts http://www.wetterzen...cka20101127.gif http://www.wetterzen...cka20101128.gif http://www.wetterzen...cka20101129.gif Here it was only till the winds turned to a more Eastlery direction that the snow really started here. http://www.wetterzen...cka20101130.gif Prob around 20/30cm fell on this day more snow on the 2nd http://www.wetterzen.../brac101202.gif A few shrs on the friday then that was it really for Dec Same sort of depth here as areas further to NE but depths were comparable with 08/9 and 09/10 winters. Classic snowfall for most of NE England but less anomalous for here, only really a couple of days when snowfall was heavy. To achieve depths and distrubtion associated with the great winters of the past in this area, the charts would show a more Easterly flow. Snow depths in 47/63/79 wouldn't have been much different for more lowland NE England than the Nov 10 event but here depth would have been 2 to 4 times as deep due orgraphic enhancement and less melting inbetween snowfalls
  13. Fog, vis approx 50m all day. Max 7.4C Currently 6.8C
  14. Dismal month continues. Fog, drizzle. Temp 6.7C, Mod east breeze. Low 5.8C
  15. Cloudy and misty but fog free at present. Low 4.5C Currently 6.7C Mod East wind gusting up to 21mph
  16. Fog, vis down to approx 50/100 m. Damp, temp 9.3c
  17. Just 37 here, its not just lack of air frosts. Lack of snowfall as well. Very limited snowfall since Dec 3rd 2010, here.
  18. One nice day, and now the fog is back. Vis 100m, drizzle, damp. Temp 9.1C East wind gusting up to 19mph
  19. I do like fog of both varieties, prehaps prefer radiation fog because one of the nice things about living here is those winter days when your just above the fog in valley below. Great views. Great stats from Jan 1996, I do remember it being very dull with a decent snowy ending.
  20. Dont think it that unusual to have few days without any sunshine. Fog back, vis approx 100m. drizzle. Temp 6.7C
  21. Temps slowly fallen so far today. Down to 6.9C. Dark, damp, misty as per usual
  22. MIsty with low cloud but much improved vis compared to most of this week. Temp 7.3C Mod East Wind
