Good news @Uxbridge90
Band is increasing in intensity (in the dreaded gap). Hopefully we'll get a good couple of hours. Will probably zip through before stalling and fizzling out over the Midlands, as per the models.

Anyone want to take a punt at which way it's moving? Looks quite NW
Yes - I have a horrible feeling we'll get caught in a gap / it will energise to the north of us (talking about West London). We shall see.

Work has just been informed to send people home early. Train operating companies (Southern, Thames link etc..) warning of disruption and early closure due to freezing rain (it's freezing the point systems)

Yes, hoping to get an extra couple of cms here in NW London before the thaw starts tomorrow.
Will then be looking forward to some warmer temps!
-
Unfortunately I think Harrow will be to far north and east for anything meaningful from that band to the south. After a period of snow tomorrow afternoon / evening, it will start to slowly turn milder. Wouldn't expect a meaningful thaw to kick in until Sunday, though. In the meantime, enjoy whats left of the snow!

When did the amber warning get upgraded to move it further NE into our region? The met office used to issue times of their warnings and updates but I can't find the time.
Was around 18:00

Tonight, by midnight tonight. Incredible change.
Wow - would be shocked if it happens but we'll see!

Latest EC has 2-5cm across the entire SE, including Kent.
Is this for tonight or the band of snow expected tomorrow afternoon?
Very light snow in NW London. I am about 20 miles to far east for anything notable
-
Radar looking very good for central London westward - maybe even further east. Exciting!
-
Light snow in NW London. Precipitation is weakening, or at least for our region. I'd expect no more than a cm or two over the next couple of hours before fizzling out. Tomorrows chances look better!

Stopping for us now then? Not that we can complain. Loughton is covered with the white stuff
Expect light snow to continue for another couple of hours, then a lul before more potential (heavy?) snow in the morning..
-
Still snowing in Harrow - very unexpected.nearly 8cm now - might get to 10 going by the radar!

Certainly going to be an interesting 6-9hrs to come both in terms of convection and the frontal shield.
18z Hirlam is marginally less snowy over far SE but still gives widespread 10-15cms for all but Kent where totals ate more modest.
Hi KW - do you have a link? Meteociel is not updated
-
Just to note the meto severe weather warning has been extended for this evening, they expect a further 1-3cm. A nice bonus. Some suggesting tomorrows event could further east as well..
-
A little stream heading straight for Harrow - might add half a cm or so. No expecting more than a cm or two this evening.
Think most of us will be to far east tomorrow for anything notable (i.e. more than a couple of cms), although happy to be surprised!

A couple of CMs here in NW London. Not expecting anything else away from the coasts as the winds veer south easterly. I think Thursdays precipitation will be to far west, although expect another couple of cms on Friday.

Snow has now fizzled. Hopefully we'll catch a few more showers before the wind turns more NE
-
Sugar dusting here, and looks as though those of us in NW London (and other areas) will continue to see light to moderate snow showers through the rest of this morning. Nice surprise.
Wrt Thursday / Friday. Most models give us a period of snow, some turning to freeing rain/ sleet for time. All agree on it turning 'milder', or less cold but still cold, over the weekend.

Is there a chance we can split the thread? If a Thames Streamer does setup this place is going to go mental with all the London/Kent/Essex etc posters
Not in this part of London they won't!
In all seriousness it look like i'll be waiting until Thursday / Friday for anything noteworthy. Thats not to say those of us in the NW won't get a couple of CM's in the meantime as the showers rattle through - i'd be surprised if we didn't!
Frustrating as my hometown is going to do very well. Why did my GF make me come to snowless London

Yep, for your and my locations we want the winds ESE. But I'm sure we'll see something regardless.
Thanks, thought so. Wednesday looks best then, although I can easily see us gaining a covering from Monday afternoon

Wednesday is looking exceptional at the moment, massive lapse rates and ever lowering pressure combined with the wind shifting from E to briefly a touch south of east and back to ENE means nearly everyone will have skin in the game on Wednesday. Going real unlucky if you don't get at least one decent fall of snow in this cold spell, favoured locations are going to get buried for sure.
Indeed, not being local one assumes ESE or E is best for places like Harrow / Wembley?
Wrt Friday, the mean GFS ensembles push the cold air further north, albeit slightly. I would still favour the ECM solution, with any precipitation potentially missing much of the SE.

Even if Fridays low stays further South, the wind direction should remain more North of East which ought to continue the streamers for a bit longer instead. :-)
Indeed, a win either way!

Really, don't expect that to last. Light snow grains here.
