I think its about time we had some luck swing our way for once, surely there must be a time when things upgrade dramatically, we get plenty of major downgrades around here
Indeed. I don't want to jinx us but what's gonna happen is the front will push in, gain intensity just before hitting Wales and pour snow over us for 24 hours straight - stalling - with precipitation not making it past the Welsh border. Everywhere stays dry except Wales which will receive a foot of snow.
I have no evidence to back my fantasy up.

Currently -4.2c here.
This mornings actual low air temp was -6.0c...
The car thermometer read -9 when I first started her up haha... just goes to show how inaccurate they can be at reading air temps. Usually the temp comes back to a reasonable range after a few minutes of driving.
Weekend - well not looking forward to rain and milder conditions, I'd rather it be dry and cold. Wouldn't it BENEFIT most of the UK if the front stalled much further west? I mean the far South East of England will remain cold but most other places will see higher temps than the last few days which is a shame.
This block better put up a damn good fight, disappointment is not uncommon in this village though.

Low of -4.5c here this morning...
The car windscreen was frozen on the INSIDE as well! Gosh
-
Do you live in the village itself? Take a walk up the mountain ì bet the lane that goes from there to Five Roads should have accumulating snow if it's anything like last night... from around 120m asl it started to stick. What altitude are you?
-
Snowing in Trimsaran near kidwelly has been for past half hour
Im in Felinfoel at the moment... Colleague just been out and said it's snowing. I can't confirm this until I go out later
-
Here in Pontyates just sleet currently at 1.3c. My street is around 50-70m asl.
I just drove up the road towards Cynheidre and the precipitation was turning increasingly to snow from around 120m asl. The roads were a slushy mess and snow had stuck to paths, grass and road signs.
At around 160m asl I wouldn't be surprised if there was 1cm of snow on the path...
Very localised indeed. Such a shame I don't live a mile up the road otherwise I'd be much happier haha

Do you genuinely think that there will be a semi-significant amount of snow overnight Shaun? We need some positive thoughts/posts for those of us who are feeling fed up with our current weather and outlook!!
Im no expert but surely things could improve later on... it all seems so weird though.. some areas with rain others sleet and some with settling snow on lower levels than others etc. so strange.
-
ive give up on seeing snow nw,its been ramped up bt hasnt deliverd, thought id see some of the white stuff by now.the weather in blackwood is a pile of ****. do you reckon theres any chance of snow or shall i just go 2 bed now?
Go to bed and get up at 3am
-
It seems like everywhere around me has snow now! Surely it can't be far off, or it isn't coming at all! A slight change, mix of sleet/wet snow falling now. Quite funny, just seen 2 cars drive past the house.. both with a dusting of snow on
To be honest though, are we all getting carried away? Rain is supposed to turn to snow overnight.. It isn't even 8pm and yet the majority of us (me included) are feeling downbeat.
I've seen pics of settling snow in Bancffosfelen uploaded to Facebook

Just a quick question, how come areas to the west of me are getting snow? yet being further east i expected snow being closer to the cold from the east? or have i just got it all wrong?
Yeah. I expected you to see more wintryness before me.
-
Hi, where are you? I am in Pontyberem, I know there has been some snow in Tumble and Cross Hands.. Yet nothing here! Hopefully it's on its way!
What!!!
It's snowing here in Pontyates (may be wet Im not sure but definitely a winter scene with the sky filled full of flakes). Im not in my house but last i checked it was 1.1c
The house im currently in is approx 50m asl.
The cars have a slush layer on and up Cynheidre the pavements were turning white.
-
Temp 2.3c Dewpoint 0.7c its getting there slowly! Still rain though
Shouldn't be long considering it's only 1.1c here. Snow settling on the pavement in Cynheidre
-
Finally sleet and snow. I took a drive up he road where it was settling on untreated surfaces...
1.1c
-
Just sleet here last time I checked... (Pontyates)
-
Afternoon all.
3.6c here in south Carms...
Lot's of rain in a very very green Wales.
I hope the ppn turns more wintry later for most parts
Have a nice afternoon.
-
Got as low as 0.5c around 8ish this evening but gone up and steady at 1.0c currently.
I really hope I see something out this event but as always, disappointment is not uncommon.
Good luck everyone and stay safe.

I was optimistic earlier but the more I've looked at it the more I have my doubts, maybe I've just turned into a pessimist haha
Haha... well the latest high res NMM is showing rain on the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire coasts for tomorrow so pfft. If it's going to snow then bloody snow... I don't want to risk going in to work on slushy soaking frozen roads.
-
Hmm so by the looks of it sunday into monday will be quite marginal in regards to coastal area's seeing much snow falling? I'll take anything at this stage, not seen a proper snowflake here since 2010! Obviously got some time to go yet but are there any scenarios where we could get some snow nailed on at lower levels?
Hey there again. I'm not confident that we'll definitely see setting snow but tomorrow is definitely our best chance so far. I've also noticed that going in to Monday is looking more marginal??

Went for another drive to the mountain road above Brynaman, stupid thing to do, was whiteout conditions from about 300m up with dense fog also a problem at the top, temp was -3 and there was I'de say about 7-8cm of snow on the roads, frozen solid here with wet snow and hail stuck to the cars, any more showers now wouldn't be surprised if a few of us get a surprise covering overnight.
Agh that's my favourite driving road... I love it so much!
Temp hovering above freezing here 1-2c when under cloud cover. Quite icy, nearly fell earlier!
-
I think we are going to have to wait for a more potent cold spell unfortuantly, temperatures just arent up to it. It's surprising how much intensity there is in these narrow troughs that form though
Yeah I think you're right...
I was really hoping I would have some snow at near air frost temps lol.
Doesn't matter, I wouldn't mind a spell of high pressure now. Dry days, frosty nights... then how about a nice juicy northerly blast feeding constant snow showers down to use ahah
Good night everyone.
-
1.6c :/ jesus. Currently raining.
I've had rain and intense hail (possibly sleet initially)
Some ice still left on car surfaces, helped by the hail which still hasn't thawed.
Edit:
Now 1.8c
Awww
-
Been out looks mostly rain to me jeez.
0.7c.
Boring.
As the rain drops hit the freezing surface there was like water vapour rising. If skies clear then it's gonna be so icy.
-
0.4c sleet urghhhhhhh
-
....you wont believe this....it's already at 2.0c! I give up!
Whatat the hell! That's mental haha.
I can see stars to my north east and cloud to my north west.
0.1c

I'm with Welshwizard, my gut is telling me snowfest. We need to hope this block is MUCH stronger than the models think it is... and with a bit of luck it will stall in a perfect position for Wales snowfest.
Don't worry about the dam line. I'm sure I've read it can be used as a guide but by no means a definite answer for snow/rain. However, I'm no expert.
