Do you think Jackone their a possibility of seeing thunder snow? very unstable cold air interacting with warm sea temperatures.
Well if you look at the Brecon Beacons forecast from the MetO they say:
Thunderstorms Medium Some heavier snow showers may turn thundery.

Yes, but what does soupsurfer mean by it? It's a very ambiguous term, it seems, so I'm interested in where he was referring to.
We'll have to wait for his answer..
But... perhaps he meant:
Mid Wales uplands known in the Welsh language as the Elenydd (which extend from Pumlumon to Mynydd Mallaen).____________________________________
Oh and just in case anyone is interested then here is the MetO chief forecaster talking about this weeks weather -

What exactly do you mean by "cambrian mountains"? I've never seen a concrete definition, and it appears to cover everything all the way from North to South Wales.
Originally the term "Cambrian Mountains" was applied in a general sense to most of upland Wales. Since the 1950s, its application has become increasingly (and arguably illogically) localised to the geographically homogeneous Mid Wales uplands known in the Welsh language as the Elenydd (which extend from Pumlumon to Mynydd Mallaen). -
http://expertcharts....121318_1118.gif Interesting NAE chart? If it verifies...not too far out though!
Not bad.
The high res NMM hasn't got that far out yet but here is the 06z for Tuesday. I hope Net Wx don't mind me posting:
(Note precipitation falling as sleet and snow on the very western Irish coast... Hope those cold uppers push as far over to us)

Managed to get a low of -1.4c here at 0713.
Second air frost of the winter, first being on the 02/12 which was -0.3c
-
Couple of showers starting to pep up as they come in land to mid Wales... Could be quite icy there if the skies clear. Mainly sleet being shown as precipitous type in north and mid Wales. Does anyone on here live up north? What's the situation like?

What's the Alps forecast got to do with regional weather for Wales?
Maybe someone from Wales is interested? I don't see any harm in posting it...

Quite like the Icelandic one, how come we can't get ECM every 6 hours I wonder?
It's probably possible but I guess not many websites use the data because it may cost more to have it per 6 hours? But hey, I don't know. Just guessing.
Regards

There are some other sources of ECM forecast which provide more info, including
http://en.vedur.is/w...=temp&type=temp (Icelandic weather site)
and
http://www.wundergro...i=0&ls=0&rad2=0
Select ECMWF from the Model Data on the right hand side.
Neither of these are perfect, and they can be confusing when you get used to a particular format of charts.
Generally I don't tend to use them for that reason.
Cheers, and yeah can be confusing

Thank you for your replies guys.

Thanks for posting...
At least in the USA there's a lot of large wide streets/roads so they have more of a chance of correcting their vehicle if it went of of control... and mostly flat as well.
Good luck to the people of New Mexico in the new week, looks like that low should give them a lot of snow.

Hey can anyone help...
The ECM model on NW and Meteociel shows charts for every 24 hour period. Is there a way/place to view the model per 3 hours like the GFS? or anything less than 24 hours?
Thanks

Cold front should be moving through here in the next hour or so, expect temps to drop quickly behind that.
Indeed, temp has started to drop away very quickly here now.

Looking at the 00z gfs for my location on Friday then the 500-1000 hPa and 850-1000 hPa charts look pretty crap.
Met Office going for hill snow... "wintry from Wales northwards"... So similar to the last couple of days then...
-
Max 6.3c here earlier...
Temp falling away again, now at 4.6c
I'm hoping for a nice calm night with a ground frost but we'll see...
-
I take it nobody has had any weather worth mentioning then? Judging by how dead this thread is
-
3.9c here in south Carms. Clear skies last time I checked.
Chilly start tomorrow
-
Very cool and wintry, above 500m you could see snow lying for a good week, above 100m then you probably will see snow! Very good signs for the first widespread snowfall, lets hope for no downgrades, ey!
For Scotland maybe....

I know this is off topic but does anybody have a chart of the day it snowed in the south west in november 2005. Thanks
There is a case study on the MO website about it here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/education/teens/casestudy_bodmin.html
Somebody may find you the charts you want.

91mph, Valley.

Anybody know of any cams in those snowy states in the USA?

At the moment I just can't see temps dropping enough for places like my location... although you can see on xcweather that temps are starting to fall in western/north western Ireland after the cold front has passed. Looks like they're currently around 4-5c there.
10.4c here now, lots of rain, will be glad if it clears.
