feb1991blizzard would be perfect timing for the kids mid term break.

blizzard81 it always seems these days that no matter the situation, how favourable something may be to getting a decent winter it's just the same story every Yr. Yes even a cold Scandinavia has done nothing for us, not yet anyway.

feb1991blizzard just think in a couple of months you won't have to Worry about it. 'WINTER' will be done for another Yr.

Well since Sept 2022, it's been a very wet period overall ( bar some dryer interludes mid May- mid June last yr for example). Before September 2022 the previous yr was often dry. We seem to go through periods of wet weather for months being replaced by alot of dry weather in recent yrs and visa versa. So I do wonder do we go back to often dry weather in the not too distant future .

That's certainly what you would call a blizzard!

Winter 80/81 , not a winter that sticks out much in my memory ( also being only 7) . But remember getting some snow in feb 81 during a cold snap which felt like it had rescued my winter.

Wouldn't bother me. But if they start naming heatwaves I bet climate change deniers will be saying they are hyping things up with it being some form of climate change agenda.

SunnyG 30c + above normal is still 30c above normal no matter what context or whatever way you want to spin it.

So it's likely that the uk Jan record was broken 3 times yesterday? 19.2c then 19.6c and then 19.9c

Concern would be the main thing for me not the boredom aspect.

A new yr and already warmth records are falling. Another yr that little bit closer to calamity bit by bit by bit.

@Weather-history it's not that what happens in September has an effect on winter. But to me a warm September is a SIGN that the months afterwards will be likely warmer then average . Its a sign that winter will be predisposed to warmer then average weather

Another case of a warm September followed by a crap winter. Yet another one.
Despite any ramping ,teleconnections ,seasonal models etc the warm September curse has beaten them all. Of course its just part of the bigger picture that is climate change.

100% getting milder. How anyone could think they are getting colder is either dillusional or in denial.

It does seem the cold in the US gets cut off just as quickly as ours which is one good thing.

It would be perfect if we get a hp spell with frosts and chilly days. Dry out the ground a bit and reduce the ground temperatures. Then to be followed by a proper cold spell with snow. Once the hp doesn't sink, hopefully we can get this type of scenario which to me is a holy grail. Frosty weather followed by snow.

Well Xmas eve now. 12.5c here atm, 1.15 am. As bloody unseasonal as it can be. Pure muck.

I've been thinking (and I'm sure others have too) that had this winter occurred 20 or 30 years ago, it would likely have been a straight forward cold season, with the pesky Iberian heights being less of an issue?
I agree. The weather this week would have likely been much colder then the muck we are getting atm. That cold air to our north would have pushed south. Nowadays stubborn hp to our south is like a bloody wall in the path of cold trying to reach us ( of course there can be other factors too ) but this week has been a perfect illustration of that imo.

Winter 2023/24 - A Post Mortem
in Spring Weather Discussion
Posted
Feb can be a very depressing time of Yr when the preceeding months have been as poor as they have been for coldies and little on offer for the rest of the month . Another winter down the drain. Its like being stuck in limbo now and waiting for spring to arrive.
