  1. The wind started to pick up around here about an hour ago... I wonder if this'll be like another storm Doris, or just a crisp packet stirrer?
  2. Just heading off out with the hound for an evening walk across the fields, when I looked up and saw this convective beauty over towards the Chester area... Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but look at those mammatus clouds!
  3. Torrential downpours here all morning, but nothing electrical. ... But it looks like something is just starting to kick off around Whitchurch, Grindley Brook area.
  4. Well, I have to say what a dull grey gloomfest of a September this is so far... From a totally IMBY perspective you understand. It started off promising last Friday and Saturday, and has gone down hill ever since. For me this is the constant sort of still, calm gloomfest that we normally get in October, around the time of St. Luke's little summer... And it seems right in October... But not now! ... Don't get me wrong, I do like calm misty, foggy mornings, to me its very atmospheric and what autumn is all about... But this is just dull grey nothingness, with a bit of added drizzle! So I'm all in favour of frequent strong winds with frontal rain and blustery showers... We might get to see the sun and blues skies, which are normally very pleasant in September.
  5. If this helps anyone out... This was my view about ten minutes ago, overlooking Runcorn, Warrington and Manchester.
  6. The storm is passing now... But here are the screen shots of where the lightning was.
  7. Bullseye!! Right overhead!! Also I'm getting reports of tornadic activity near Rhyl!!
  8. Very, very distant thunder just now. Looks like something is trying to kick off just the other side of Ruthin.
  9. Morning @karyo I agree mate... It looks to be stuck out at sea, just off the coast.
  10. Looks like something is starting to get going again just off the coast at Prestatyn.
  11. Well that was a dramatic and atmospheric drive into work... The dark blue of the dawn skies, lit up with good flashes of forked and sheet lightning.
  12. Morning @CreweCold Admittedly it wasn't a patch on what I'd seen earlier in the day (which did give quite an impressive power shower), but after the nothingness of weak fluffy convection that we had in the first part of this year, I'm taking this as a positive step in the right direction.
  13. Evening everyone. We've had some beautiful covectivity going on around here today... And here is an example of this evenings offering. Doubtful it'll go bang... But it's still nice to see.
  14. Morning @Chris.R No need to apologise mate... I think it's just one of those years.
  15. Yay!! I've had some overnight drizzle!! I see that the storms broke out much further north... I thought that the sky didn't look too promising. Anyway, I hope everyone who managed to get some storms has enjoyed them. But finally for today (unless an unexpected storm breaks out overhead), has anyone else noticed that this summer, thundery events seem to happen around the 21st to the 22nd of the month? ... We had that capping event (with so much promise - Yes I did get a small overhead storm) on the 21st of June, then again on the 22nd of July, and this event 22nd/23rd of August... So being as September is now often seen as an extension of summer... I wonder if anything will happen in a months time?
  16. I agree mate... To me this is starting to look like a bust for my area at least. I'm not throwing the towel in just yet... But I'm not far off that point.
  17. You know the one thing that strikes me is that there is no real strong convection going on. ... Mind you exactly the same happened two years ago, and we got a cracking storm that evening. Lets see what happens.
  18. The sun is now starting to break through proper here now... Very hot and humid.
  19. Morning @karyo The sky is changing rapidly around here... Lots and lots of fibreous convective clouds now appearing... Hopefully... Fingers crossed.
