  1. Disgusting ECM 12Z Very unsettled from this weekend with a small trough slap bang over the UK again. Hope this isnt the start of a trend of recent summers again of a fine start to summer then quickly going down the hill. Interesting to note how the CFS is very stubborn in predicting a very warm and settled late June and July though!
  2. Another non stop sunny afternoon in Falmouth. The cloud quickly melted from about 1pm. So thats about 12 days of sunshine here in Falmouth and that 1 French import Thunderstorm. Never hot but always pleasantly warm. 10/10 for this spell of weather. Loved it and the best summer weather ive seen in the UK probably since 2006 tbh - for prolongedness, how very little cloud there was, good temperatures and a finale thunderstorm! MONDAY: Cloudier but some sunny spells. Rain into Cornwall Later. Max 13-17c. 3. Oopps, sorry did I mention the word CLOUD???? Dont worry I hate it as much as you and despise of it even more now than ever!
  4. Hehe, I have been immensely lucky. Not looking forward to the Midlands daytime convective cloud. That will quickly have me running back down here If so!
  5. Lol, well actually it started off a little cloudy but yeah it was another non stop sunshine day otherwise this afternoon and evening. Lovely and warm again. Went to the beach...again. Defo got a brilliant tan from this spell. Shame its coming to an end but its been fantastic and im encouraged there are good signs for more Azores ridging in the near future - seems to be much different charts to the last dire summers. And of course, no more storms but yesterday's fantastic storm really puts the cherry on top of a very nice cake!
  6. It really did pack quite a punch. It seemed to intensify continuously for a time as it entered the bay around Falmouth. Seemed like there was some good moisture availability or whatever to enhance and sustain it. Being on the coast helps though. But everyone has said how such a storm is so rare here so I feel pretty lucky and also that Ive seen a storm slightly less than one year after El Brumo that I can compare to! Didnt think Id see something of the severity of El Brumo for some years!
  7. More cloud here than expected. Its come off the Channel. Hope it burns back as this is the last proper day of this fine spell.
  8. SUNDAY: Unbroken Sunshine for Kernow. High cloud then Sun for CI probably. 14-20c. Special hello to Heart FM Cornwall who now follow us!
  9. Yes, same story in Penryn and Falmouth this morning. Lightning actually began at around 2am but was high based and from the incoming French import. But it was so slow moving and hence the longevity of Saturday mornings storm. Things really kicked off around 6am and pretty much everyone was awoken to some of the loudest thunder ive ever head - ground shaking as well at times. Literally peeling thunder right above us, immediately following the lightning. I reckon this was an MCS storm - lots of little cells combining to create a large slow moving downpour which also lasted here for 2 hours roughly with little let up. Road flooding and buildings struck by lightning were the main issues. Saturday was akin to the MCS I witnessed on the 28th June 2012 in the Midlands. Whilst the lightning wasnt the major player, it was the rain and thunder that were exceptional. The radar shows how things seemed to intensify around Penryn with rain feeding in from the Truro area and just intensifying as it hit us and hence as one cell seemed to die, another cropped up. One lightning strike and crash of thunder was so near it was enough to knock the power out and internet briefly - very powerful at times. A thoroughly memorable storm but it sounds like this is pretty rare for here but would love to see more!
  10. I must say I have been treated big time recently. It makes up for so much rain over Winter. Todays storm was El Kernow - just as severe as El Brumo last year imo! Its pleasing to see French Imports make it despite colder than normal seas. Shows each synoptic is different. Our power only went very briefly but going by news stories, we was in one of the worst hit areas. Road flooding and lightning strikes were the worst issues. Its just so much easier to get a clear sunny day here. Whenever I see a cloud in the Midlands now im going to be like Conor. Haha but then I plan on spending more time down here now than originally planned.
  11. Left the club in style today. Pretty early by usual standards of recent! French import Saturday morning started to deliver IC lightning around 2am on and off until 6am when things turned big style with 2 hours of torrential rain, ground shaking thunder and lightning. Some of the loudest thunder ive heard in many years. Also it must have been right over head with thunder right after the lightning. Really interesting and followed a muggy night and was followed then by another very warm day on Saturday. Very continental style and it seems Summer 2013 has got off on a much more normal vein - in fact id argue the most normal since 2006. French Imports regardless of the sea temperatures! 6 hours of glorious thundery activity!
  12. Well what a fantastic day in the end. Effectively we had a 6 hour thunderstorm here from 2-8am here Saturday morning though about 6-8am was the main event. Before was mostly just IC Lightning. And what a storm it was. Just as severe as the the El Brumo experienced in the Midlands last year imo. I name todays one El Kernow! Some scarily loud, ground shaking thunder that I havent experienced in many years. A real treat. And then it quickly changed into a very warm 100% sunny day with not a cloud to be seen. Very continental style day, especially as it was finished by an evening at the beach and then a meal overlooking Falmouth Docks. Cant complain!
  13. Looking like I may still bring some high pressure with me home next weekend. However still dont want to come back when its so beautiful here.
  14. Well we're having one very severe storm. Had ground shaking thunder over head lightning and torrential rain for over 2 hours now. Flooding across Falmouth with no train service, traffic disruption, houses struck by lightning, power cuts, Internet losses and more. And it's still pouring down!! Reminds me of el Brumo last year!!!! how lucky I am to see this. About a 6 hour storm now since the first lightning.
  15. So since the first lightning around 3am this has pretty much been a 6 hour storm intensifying majorly with daylight. Crazy. Like the good old days!
  16. Bbc radio Cornwall saying how the penryn bypass is very slow moving almost impassable. Tree down in Helston and no Truro- Falmouth docks train service due to lightning strikes!!!
  17. Well I'm now on my phone. One very close bolt and insane ground shaking thunder briefly took the power out and killed the Internet.... This is perhaps one of the best storms I've seen in many years!!!!! Occasionally I can hear sirens too. Must be some flooding from this and houses struck by lightning hence why I was so quick to issue a weather warning for my site!!
  18. Indeed, radar suggests it is reinforcing around Falmouth and Penryn but seems to be easing slowly now. Quite incredible that was. Pretty much rumbling the building thunder... . This has been the most Classic start to summer - Very warm then French imports on a sultry night!!!
  19. Think it will pass soon but we are getting some insane shotgun thunder and very close lightning strikes right now. Never seen this much intense rain in my life!
  20. FLASH WARNING FOR THUNDERSTORMS AND FLASH FLOODING in West Cornwall until 11am - http://www.cciweather.co.uk/#/warnings/4573724904 -Very close lightning and shotgun thunder just then.
  21. WOW!!!! Very intense rain here, few flashes and rumbles, quite close too!
  22. Final one from me now but some really vivid, interesting bolts of IC type lightning stretching across the horizon in a greenish colour. Impressive and an unexpected treat to round off a perfect day/evening. very warm even now and hence a very continental/Mediterranean feel to things today.
