  1. Blimey that was close! What rating do you think that was an EF1 maybe?
  2. Sweet. Thanks very muchly for this . I shall save it to my favourites
  3. This is gonna sound like a proper stupid question but where is the best site to look at the model predictions in the states, temp, pressure, dew points ect. As i've been trying to find a good website to use but im not sure what is best?
  4. The La Crosse cells are indeed looking good, the Eau Claire one looks very likely to drop as well, looks as though your target may well be spot on Paul
  5. Reed's on the La Crosse cell, i wonder if it will merge with the cluster to the north
  6. Lol they do love their doughnuts. Its all starting to go Ka-Boom now, i reckon that cell to the south of La Crosse will drop one. Lol i want to watch this develop all night but i seriously need to go bed after a heavy night out and work looms tomorrow.
  7. Edit - The Waterloo cell is firing up now, and another one to the north as well.
  8. That sounds awesome. A night time twister must be proper spooky to see, especially with powerflashes and lightning. I remember last year on a couple of Storms we chased after dark i got slightly nervous at running into a twister. Nice cell just popped up north of Waterloo, Iowa. Could be one to watch maybe?
  9. Amazing footage there, have you ever seen two tornadoes on the ground at one time?
  10. Cracking glorious day today here in Torbay, finally hit the magic 20c today with temps around the 20/1c mark. 22c in Exeter today as well, stunning for early April and still being able to sit outside in shorts at 7pm is pretty good going as well. This has to be the earliest i've witnessed 20c in the UK and the 4th time in April. Shame i had to witness the day inside a stuffy office in Newton . Looks to be abit cooler tommorow but still on the warm side with 16-18c and again through the weekend.
  11. Yeah i looked at that, i did have my eye on the 3D one as well lol. But my limit is £500 really.
  12. I love reading this discussion and how all everything clinks together. I wanted to ask a question about Angular Momentum, firstly what is it? i have a hunch its the winds that circulate the globe but i'm not brilliantly sure. Secondly how does this effect the rest of the climates around the world including ours? Also in regards to summer, i know its along way off but its something i've been pondering on alot lately. My thoughts are that La Nina isn't really going to go anywhere fast and that we're in the middle of a mutli La Nina sequence, and that the current La Nina will only wane to a weak stage during the summer only to strengthen again during the winter. Also this combined with a QBO which i think will flip negative in the next month or two will aide with the weak La Nina to bring an increasingly cool and wet pattern. Im probably not making sense and reading the signals wrong but still trying to get to grips with how everything clogs together.
  13. 2 months today! can't wait! I've only got a few things left to sort. Been wanting to get a new camrecorder but not sure what the best one is to get for chasing. I had a cheapy one last year which was ok most the time but i had some serious issues with the auto focus with, i missed the 4th Twister that dropped just yards from the car as it kept focusing on the inside of the car so i don't want to miss a second this year. Does anybody have any ideas what's best to get?
  14. I'm not expecting much of a good summer at the moment this year, but i think May and June will be warm at times. My guesses are: National 20C - April (4th Week) 25c - May (2nd Week) 30c - May (Last Week) The last time we reached the dizzy magic heights of 30c in Torbaydos, was Jul 2006 but i was on holiday in Greece at the time so missed the whole heatwave in the second half of July. Aug 04 was the last time i witnessed 30c in the UK and in Torbay. Local 20c - May (1st Week) 25c - May (2nd Week) 30c - Never! Previous Spring/Summers in Paignton for comparison although i don't have excat dates with me atm but i know the months. 2010 - 20c - May 25c - May Max - 26c June/July 2009 20c - April 25c - May Max: 26c June 2008 20c - May 25c - Never! Max: 24.8c - May!! 2007 20c - April 25c - August Max: 25.7c - August (think it was the bank hols) 2006 20c - May 25c - June 30c - July Max -31c - July 2005 20c - May 25c - June Max: 29c July 2004 20c - April 25c - June 30c - Aug Max - 30c August 2003 20c - April 25c - April 30c - July Max: 33c - August
  15. Yeah i remember watching the storms on the radar on the way to OK and outside Chilli's after stuffing my face with buffalo wings but i wasn't expecting what we got i think they were more severe than storms we'd get over here well i've certainly not seen anything quite that violent over here. I remember the hail did get fairly large for a while but i deleted the videos I took by accident i never realised the hail was hat big in that storm. Wouldn't mind seeing a night time storm like that again, i'll answer the phone next time it rings lol.
  16. I wouldn't mind seeing some larger hail this year and getting photographic evidence. We had golf ball sized stuff in that core punch on the Nebraska/South Dakota border but i didn't actually see any hail that big just the noise it made on the car. I'd be happy just seeing some golf ball sized hail this year in a nice downpour..if i was being pushy baseball sized would be rather awesome . Some more fork lightning would also be nice to see it was mostly sheet lightning last year apart from the first night in Norman, that was one hell of a noisy storm, i've heard a couple of claps of thunder as loud as that night in the UK but not continuous claps that sound like bombs going off, do you have any footage of that lightning at all Paul? You scared the hell out of me when you rang the phone in my room that night i thought it was some crazy person like out of the movies . But i'd love to see some twisters in OK & Kansas this year, and seeing one at night would be scary and sweet at the same time. Would be nice to see some new states as well, could not believe i went to 8 last year. I have a feeling we will be more North & East this year. The icing on the cake would be topping last years tornado count of 4, which i thought was fantastic especially in a first chase season, with 3 in the space of 30 mins! I don't ask for much do i lol.
  17. Some unbelievable cold over the mid-west at the moment, as cold as the south pole in some areas . It got down to -24c in Tulsa OK, and yet temperatures are going to be between the 60s-70s by the end of the week. amazing stuff. its hard to imagine in a few months its going to be in the 90's most days.
  18. So many storms i could rave about but i'll try and cut it down to five lol. Firstly, i'm not entirely sure when this was. I have a hunch it may have been 1995 but could have been 96. Anyhows, i was living in Gosport at the time and i was only about 5 or 6. But we had this cracking huge storm early one morning in the summer hols. It started about 6 in the morning and i was watching good old GMTV having my breakfast and it had been rumbling away for a fair while and the sky had gone grey. But this storm was like something out of a book, first came the cloud then it started rumbling, then the wind picked up suddenly and a few spots of rain came down. Next came the heavy rain the wind whipped right up and bang off went the thunder and lightning and continued for at least 4 hours. It wasn't until lunchtime the skies cleared and it turned hot and sunny again. But i remember Portsmouth train station being struck and set on fire from the lightning. Its my first proper memory of a storm and i'll always remember it and i wasn't scared at all . Secondly, 26th September 2000 in Blackpool. Having moved up north a few years prior , big storms weren't frequent so they were a lot more memorable when they happened. But this was was the biggest we had by a very big margin. It had been unusually warm and humid in the days prior to the storm and the day itself and that evening when i was having my tea (Chicago Town Pizza may i add lol) The sky had gone fairly dark but it was turning a very nasty shade of green which i've never seen in the UK since on a storm and the structure was amazing, it looked like something out of America and i thought this has too be a monster of storm, surely enough a few minutes later we could hear the thunder. After necking down the pizza i ran outside where it started to rain but massive drops of it where coming down, then it stopped and there was sheet lightning going on everywhere. Me and my friend then decided to go to the shop where we saw some amazing could to cloud and cloud to air bolts ripple across the sky and whilst we where in the shop the torrential rain and hail set in. After having to pelt the 200 yrds or so way home which was brilliant with the lightning going off right overhead i was absolutely soaked to the skin. I then watched the rest of the storm from home but it went on for at least 2 hours. But we had tons of fork lightning and sheet lightning sparking off every second i counted at one point and all different colours as well which was very odd. But the thing that struck me the most was how orgianised this storm was, it went through a cycle of torrential rain, really tropical style with continuous thunder but no lightning and gusty winds, then it turned to heavy hail and light rain and tons of lightning but no thunder or wind i've never seen a storm act this way before or since. There was tons of flash flooding from this storm it was a fantastic beast. I may post some more memories later seeing as i've written an essay
  19. 2006 and 2005 were both brilliant years. In 2006 we had a storm every month from June 06 to Feb 07, strangely October was the most thundery-est month of the year. 2005 we had the most fantastic Spanish plume on the 24th June, where we had six storms within 8 hours and still managed to reach 24c under cloudy skies.
  20. Last year was dreadful for these parts again. Only had one storm in the entire year and that was a hailstorm on 20th December, so we very nearly had a thunder-less year. At least going to the states made up for the year long storm drought . 2009 was just as bad, in fact it was worse. We had a thundersnow on the 5th Feb and another thunderstorm in April, that was it. Every storm potential we had that year, which was quite a few none delivered, last year we didn't even get any potential. We even had a spanish plume in June 2009 that did nothing but bring abit of cloud, normally we get our best and biggest storms from those set ups. 2008 wasn't much better we had three storms that year, and 2007 we had five which is around normal. I'm not holding out much hope for this year, since we started getting these cooler summers and winters our storms have disappeared. Still roll on June and the states
  21. Yes they are dubbing it the Groundhog storm on Accuweather.com. Be interesting to watch that unfold. Can i just ask who else is jetting out on the 1st June for tour 4? As i was wondering whether anybody wanted to meet up before hand.
  22. Just booked the Flights for Tour 4!! £300 cheaper than last year as well.
  23. Another wet day, they are starting to merge into one big blur now lol. Clinging to hope that something cold will develop in the next week or so though i think it will be the last week of Jan before it does, i am wondering though if Feb will be as cold as i originally thought. But on the positives only 139 days till the USA! Lol
  24. I think if what i've heard others say about La Nina and its frequency is true, (which i for one think its very likely) we could see more bouts of La Nina in the future and more persistent than we have over the last decade or so, which will certainly be interesting. Also with our Jet Stream being more on a southerly track than normal over the last couple of years do you think that has an impact on the amount of tornadoes seen across the states? I'm loving all these videos and pictures that everybody has posted, its amazing to see what has happened on previous tours! Here's to more
  25. Lol not for the faint hearted. Im trying to get a better camera for this year though i may struggle as my funds don't stretch that far lol.
