  1. That was my understanding also with El Nino having the opposite effect particularly over the states? although could be wrong, sorry if going slightly off topic.
  2. Had a sleety/rain shower earlier in Paignton but nothing since, hope these showers continue overnight tonight
  3. Sweet even better wet slushy snow is better than none, will have to get the eyes ready for some lamp-post watching lol. Hoping by some miracle that the pattern re-sets itself for the xmas weekend so we can get white xmas this year, came close last year
  4. Good to see the regional threads open again . Aside from the potentially stormy week looks as though we could get a bit of the white stuff this week, Friday night into Saturday has remained persistently good for the last few days, strong North-Westerly winds, upper values of -5c should hopefully get some heavy showers thrown in for a good measure with some Sleet and Snow especially over higher ground but maybe to lower levels at times as well . http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn1201.html http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/fsavneur.html
  5. Just seen this! (the Xmas curry and pint) Would love to come for a curry and a pint but may have trouble getting there and back due to money this side of xmas but will definitely come to the Pre-storm meet up in Oxford looking forward to meeting everyone
  6. Had a nice little storm out to sea here at half 4 this morning which was a nice suprise, only the second storm here this year hopefully more to come.
  7. Just stumbled across this article thought it may provoke some interest.http://www.bbc.co.uk...onment-15199065 Although I thought that a cooler stratosphere caused milder winters and a stronger polar vortex?
  8. I think 30.1c will be the eventual top temp today. The Welsh record has also been broken and now stands at 28.2c at Hawarden. Its funny to think the highest temperatures recorded in the UK for April, September and October have all surpassed July, with 27.8c, 29.2c, 29.9*(as of a few minutes ago) and 27.2c recorded respectfully.
  9. The Welsh record now stands at 28.2c now and 29.9c has been reached in Gravsend 30c looking very likely now Only reached 22c here today, nothing spectacular but still pretty good, it means we've reached 70f in each month since April the second time I've ever witnessed this in the UK, the other year being 2003.
  10. Its a bit late to say but i think we may see a fairly mild but unsettled and at times stormy Autumn this year, particularly October although winter may show an increasingly early hand during November i feel. As for winter i think we will see another cold winter but also very dry and possibly another very cold month, i don't think La Nina is going to cause to much of a problem this year and will be more weak/moderate in strength.
  11. Thar she blows! It looks as though its sparking off some smaller showers in a line westwards which may also drift northwards. Can hear some rumbles and bangs now ....... unfortunately they are fireworks
  12. Ah cool the other sites i've looked at have showed nothing but this gives me a little hope, can't remember the last time i did radar watching for storms over here lol. That MCS certainly looks tasty could well be a noisy night for some! Yeah it would be brilliant to get a nice little storm tonight it would make it the second this year lol but i think your right we may just get some heavy rain, could possibly have some thundery showers follow in the early hours though?
  13. That band in the channel is slowly creeping its way towards me, and has been gradually gaining strength whether or not it maintains it by the time it gets here is another matter. Hopefully it will become electrified
  14. Sorry guys i can't make it either which i'm gutted about! but due to money and that i can't take any more leave atm from work i can't get to travel up. But I hope you guys all have a grand weekend
  15. Yes July has actually been direr than June and has been drier than July 2010 here although it hasn't been anywhere near as warm. We've had only 16.2mm of rain this month compared with 42 mm we had last July. If the models outlook verifies we might well not see any more rain for the rest of the month which would make this the 5th Month of below average rainfall in a row since March. Also if this total remains it will make it the third driest month of the year and it will be the first below average July rainfall since 2006 for Paignton.
  16. Why has he finished with Storm Chasers? I assume Sean & Tim will still be out there?
  17. Somebody just said to me there had been an earthquake in Newton Abbot today, can't say i felt anything at work .
  18. Don't think i've ever seen such high CAPE values forecast in the UK in this sort of time frame, in fact don't think i've ever seen them this high! Certain for some very large hail with any storms that fire up in this set-up, i dare say there could possibly, possibly be some S-storms, i'm not saying the word as i don't want to jynx it . I do still think this upcoming spell does have similarities with the 1/2nd July 1968 storms. Be interesting to see how it pans out.
  19. Fantastic video! That was such a lush drive that day, beautiful scenery and with Mt. Rushmore to cap it off . Mt. Rushmore is Paul M's favourite American landmark he was so excited on the way there
  20. Damn you beat me to it lol. I was just thinking the same thing, this event produced widespread severe thunderstorms, with very large hail. Cardiff Airport had a hailstone measuring 7x6cm fall and in Yorkshire they had bulldozers to clear the hail drifts away from the roads. London recorded a high of 33c on the 1st July, more on the event of Trevor Harley's website here http://www.personal.dundee.ac.uk/~taharley/british_weather_in_july.htm. If this run were to happen there would certainly be widespread violent/severe thunderstorms, with large hail, maybe if i was to be bold storms of a Supercell nature could well develop in such a dramatic set up , depending on the cloud cover i think anywhere between 32 -34c would be possible in the South & East. But this will no doubt get downgraded but it would be the weather event of the year if it happened.
  21. I'd really love to come this years BBQ. But i can't make the last weekend in July nor the first.
  22. Here's some screen grabs from the storm that night in Belle Forche, although the quality isn't that good. These photo's run in sequence Carrying on from the last photo - Again the quality is not good And the final lot
  23. What another brilliant year! I just want to say a massive thank you to all on Tour 4 for making it such a brilliant trip! Saw some beautiful/ amusing sites (including the Doge City Night-Club ) and landscapes again this year and got a good dose of CG's and it was capped of with one of the most best storms i've ever seen! It's the best Hols I've ever had and i had the most best bunch of guys I've met to share the experience with so thank you so much it was a great pleasure to chase with you all . It was also a great honour to meet and chase with Michael Fish. Congratulations and thanks again to Paul S, Paul M & Arron for your tireless efforts of Navigating and driving us for hundreds of miles every day to our target areas and making sure we got there safe. Thanks again to all and roll on 2012!
