  1. No thunder here it appears to be cells driving to the south of us and to the north . Hopefully something beefy will hit us later got some pretty nice cloudscapes today
  2. Hi Jim, Yeah i'm on the same flight . Have you booked into the Best Western Hotel?
  3. Awesome! I'm guessing everyone is staying at the Best Western in Irving? Proper excited can't wait to meet everyone
  4. Flights Booked! Is anyone else from T3 flying out a day early?
  5. Thanks for the update GP i always love reading your posts i've learnt so much from them I have one question though about the -PDO, how does that impact on our weather during the summer? I thought that the drop in sunspots during last late spring/summer would have contributed to the angular momentum dropping and weather turning more cooler? or is it case of both the drop in sunspot numbers and the PDO being negative which would have changed the weather patterns?
  6. I can only vaguely remember parts of 1995 so discounting it from my list, being only 5 at the time and living in Gosport. But what i do remember is it being frequently hot and sunny (first memory of hot weather really) with crystal clear skies and the ground being all dry and cracked, would love to see a summer like that again. That aside i think 2003 has to take the crown for me, closely followed by 2005, 2006 and 1999. 2003 just seemed like endless warmth from March to October. June 2003 was persistently warm and mostly dry save the rain from the couple of thundery spells to we had (missed one of them and it was a corker apparently). Temps were mostly between 20c - 24c from the 2nd week onwards hitting 25c on the hottest day perfect early summer weather not too hot. The first two weeks of July were very warm with us even reaching the high 20's in the 2nd week for a couple of days, then it did turn very wet and cool. August was nothing short of brilliant. First week temperatures in the high 20's peaking at 32c which to this day is the hottest temp i've experienced in the UK, beach every single day was like being abroad. We had no proper rainfall for 4 weeks either and it remained consistently warm to very warm for the rest of the month and a thunderstorm brought an end to the very dry period of weather on the 29th. 2005 i'd rank 2nd, if every UK summer was like this one i think most people would be happy, including myself as it had pretty much everything. The last two weeks of June with temps in the low to mid 20's before having two of the most violent Spanish Plumes i've ever seen, 6 storms in one day on the 24th! after reaching 27c the day before. July again had a notable fortnight of dry, sunny and at times hot weather. A whole week of temperatures in the mid 20's peaking at 29c and 28c a couple of days later. Slightly cooler the week after with temps in the low 20's but still dry and sunny. August this is a month that nobody ever remembers but for South Devon it was a perfect lazy summer month. After the initial gloom of the first few days it soon brightened up and for the rest of the month bar two days, we had dry sunny weather with a few clouds and temps between 22c - 25c every day, was amazed at how persistently warm it was. Only one day where it failed to reach 20c. The month closed with a final brief warm spell with 26c and another nice Thunderstorm. The fine weather lasted well into September with temps in the low to mid 20's for at least the first half of the month and another round of thunderstorms. Best June: June 2005 - purely for the 2nd half. Best July: July 1999 (I would have chosen 2006 but i was on holiday for the 2nd half of the month so cant make comment) Best August: August 2003
  7. What a fantastic Weekend! Massive thanks to Ian for organising everything, it was superb It was also a great pleasure to meet everyone can't wait till we all meet up again, for those on Tour 3 I'll see you state side B). Ashley P.S - Ian you don't have a photo of that lovely lady from the club do you? lol
  8. Ian i'll take your offer if thats ok lol. Been struggling to get a room there
  9. Still a great picture though Dave thanks for sharing Really need to get my hands on a lightning shutter for my camera would love to take some photos of lightning. Paul, have you got any thoughts on this years storm season and how it will pan out? I read an article, although it was on Accuweather.com, but they said that this year will be another active year. I reckon the more usual suspect states will be in the firing line this year, particularly Oklahoma.
  10. It looks like a bit scud cloud to me that may have got caught up in the circulation possibly?
  11. Just woke up to a light snow shower here, brilliant i can say i've seen some flakes this winter
  12. According to the Meto Bristol Filton is -6.5c http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/sw/bristol_filton_latest_weather.html
  13. -4.8c according to my little thermometer in the garden but it has been down to -5c already!
  14. I have to agree with Roger. I'm seriously not buying its just going to rain across SW England. Its -3c here already (colder than what than the -1c Meto said) so we could be in for -5c tonight and its barley got above freezing for the last 3days. This airmass moving in is only 5c-8c and its not got a raging jet-stream pushing it through and its coming up against air that's -1c to 1c and also very dry. I can see this weather front really dragging its heels and taking a lot longer to push through and most of South West England seeing transitional snow even at lower levels for a time before it turns to rain as a result.
  15. -3c here already i think -5c likely tonight if this carry's on. I'm still at a loss as to how its going to rain tomorrow i think the bulk of SW England should see some snow for a while before it turns to rain.
  16. Yep that's right not a drop and there was three inch hail nearby also if i remember rightly, incredible storms.
  17. No joke (this will sound corny, so apologies) but seriously it was one of the best days of life, it was just pure class and i can't thank Paul and Ian enough for it! Never seen so many storms in a 24hr period as I did that day, we had those ridiculously loud storms dropping Cg's behind the hotel overnight/early hours, then later we were treated to this beauty and being surrounded by four supercell's and having to pick our way through them all. Epic for your first ever storm chasing day!
  18. Looking at the models the -5c upper temps aren't due to be within distance for snow until this evening which correlates with a lot of the forecasts. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn122.png http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn182.png So close to Devon as well, although snow over Dartmoor and Exmoor very likely still i say overnight. From Dorest north-eastwards looks a good bet to me for snow even down to lower levels
  19. Light patchy rain here in South Devon too, not entirely sure what the temp is but my hunch is its about 5c. Wasn't expecting much from this initially only had a fools hope . But if the models are anything to go by we could get pasted towards the end of next week so fingers crossed for that
  20. A quick response to my own question, just done a bit of quick research and the Super Tuesday Outbreak in 2008 in saw two EF4 tornadoes rip through Alabama between 9.00 - 11.00am
  21. I have to ask this must be unusal to have tornadoes touching down at the times they did? I can't ever remember hearing about tornadoes on the ground after 4.00am before, although it must have happened at some point
  22. Slightly off topic but does anyone know when the 5th Series of Storm Chasers is going to be aired in the UK? I know it was stateside from September but can't find nothing about it being aired over here unless i've missed it
  23. Very interesting stuff there on El Nino, La Nina & the Stratosphere thanks for sharing those I think the Met Office did some research a couple of years back on El Nino winters and La Nina ones and concluded that El Nino's generally give rise to cooler drier winters than that of La Nina. I have a couple of questions though, one thing I've never understood though is why La Nina's tend to give more cooler conditions at the start of winter? Is this due to firstly the lag effect of the La Nina in question and secondly am i right in thinking that a weak La Nina tends to give rise to a more amplified pattern across the Atlantic? Sorry for all the questions
