  1. Very interesting contrast between June and September, June came in at 15.1C and September might just beat that or equal it, June's 850's weren't nothing to write home about but show how much the long days/powerful sun affect the temperatures whilst September warmth is more because of more humid airmasses and not long days.

  2. BFTP you should know by now when November onwards comes the jet livens up and instead of the warm dry weather we have now its cooler but still mild with more rain so the countryside is out of bounds, its either too warm for walking in this country or its too wet, never nice cold and crisp, well very rarely anymore, this warmth is exceptional with it persistence can't believe there hasn't been more mention of this, by late September you would expect some fresher weather not almost continuous humid weather with only the odd day or two or fresher weather.

  3. I like December to be on the cold side but not very cold, dry, crisp and sunny. It adds to the festive atmosphere when doing Christmas shopping. A December 2010 would bring great problems if it were to occur around the Christmas period as it would cause traffic chaos. Plus lots of snow + people walking about + salt and grit just leads to a horrible dirty mush. Christmas day itself i wouldnt mind if it were 15c.

So you would rather have mild wet gusty southwesterlies that might bring misery to many, figures really from you, scorcher or SS, complete scrooge's at Christmas.

  4. Anyway back to Model Banter... I'm really liking the late summer/early autumn warmth that is showing up on the GFS, though it's a shame that it's arriving just as the new school term commences. Never mind though, sunshine and heat is always welcome, in my opinion!

LOL, its September and for heat in September you need a very warm southerly flow, this week looks your run of the mill early autumn dry warm spell with sunshine not guaranteed, remember lots of dull mornings from such setups as fog and low cloud can be a problem, really wish people remember days aren't as long as May/June/July now and any HP will give lower temps than such setups then.

  5. Parts of the Midlands and indeed Wales have though missed the showers escaping with just a mm or 2 in the past week or so.

Yes Tony, its been extremely dry here and the countryside is exceptionally dry, love walking without worrying about mud, just fantastic weather, cant see why anybody hasn't enjoyed it unless your bottesford whose obsessed with humid air.

  6. A cool feel but not too bad here really, mostly sunny and 17.4c. Tonight looks chilly.. Even the Met Office are forecasting 6c nearby and we're usually a couple degrees cooler.

Yep nice to see some perspective, its not bad at all and not terrible like some doom mongerers were saying, temps staying up nicely at night too in built up areas, so not sure why anyone would moan its too cold, only rurally is it getting cold at night, there is a massive difference between towns and countryside at night in the summer.

  7. As this is a moan thread i think I am entitled to a good moan here,

Pretty tired of reading posts on this forum saying the weather is terrible in the week ahead TBH, To get bad weather in summer you need a more moist atlantic westerly wind, a dry PM northerly is never going to bring really bad weather with long sunny spells likely with some lively showers to keep convective fans happy but mainly in the east, western parts look mostly dry, the weather in the upcoming week looks very good in parts especially after mid week with actually the signs of it turning worse by Bank Holiday Sunday/Monday with horrible overcast wet weather, of course the mild fans ignore this and moan about cool sunny northerlies, today was great and 19C is expected again tomorrow, hardly cool, 10C has been recorded in August under heavy rainfall, now that would be something to moan about not 19C and sunny.

Latest UKMO T+72 hrs fax, looks very good with winds getting lighter, I think the shower risk might be downgraded this week and in light winds it will feel very summerlike in strong sunshine.

  8. Heating on?! In August?!

I thought this was a wind-up thread, when i spotted it just now. Honestly...no wonder the energy co.s make so much money!

Normally during late October; sometimes into November.

Completely agree, temps are hardly cool by day anyway, late teens isn't anywhere near being cool and modern houses are very well insulated and don't go below 20C unless you open your windows, I wonder if the people are complaining just sit around all day, went for a brisk walk yesterday and was sweating, its not cool at all by day.
