  1. Snow for the very highest ground possible.

I know people think cold Octobers are no good for our winter prospects but I would love a HLB'ing October with frost and even snowfall in the north, I don't buy the warm dry October = Cold winter theory,,, the weather will do what it wants no matter what happens in October.

That chart above with how trends are going this September is definitely plausible at some point in October.

  2. Whilst an airport reading is an "official" reading for any given city it doesn't necessarily denote what the conditions are actually like miles away from the airport in a random spot like here. Lots of things can contribute even in clear skies a slight breeze can raise temperatures up a degree or two

I wouldn't bother reasoning with them gaz, if no official station is recording it in an urban area they will ignore anything in the middle of the countryside in river valleys, river valleys in central Warwickshire get very cold even on calm clear mid summer nights, have recorded temps just below 0C there  in the summer months even in July but nobody would believe me and say i'm lying.

  3.  I wouldn't want to be cycling back from work like Botty at 4/5pm in darkness, so I see where he's coming from

He doesn't get any sympathy from me, nobody in their right mind cycles home on dangerous roads in rush hour in darkness, its just crazy, saw a cyclist go through a red light this morning, most have no respect for the highway code, btw I cycle do myself but sensibly and not in pitch black ever on dangerous roads.

Its pointless moaning about darkness anyway there is nothing you can do about it, maybe bottesford should get something else that he may be able to change to moan about instead of wasting our time with his endless moaning, now that is depressing.

  4. Looking further ahead, the GEFS 12z mean is rather good, at least for the southern half of the uk with high pressure in control for much of the period spanning mid month, warm and benign conditions but generally more changeable across the north of the BI. In the meantime, enjoy the next few days of very warm and sunny weather, especially the further south/se you are, by friday it will be turning much cooler and wetter as a trough moves in and the weekend also looks relatively cool and unsettled with showers and longer periods of rain but also some sunny spells, notice how the in situ trough fills during the early part of next week with pressure then rising more generally with increasingly fine and pleasantly warm conditions returning for the second half of next week onwards, eventually with an increasing risk of overnight mist and fog, on balance it would be much better across the southern half of britain with n.ireland & scotland having a fine spell for a while next week but then trending more unsettled with time but with occasional fine and warmer intervals, all in all, the 12z gefs mean is very encouraging beyond the unsettled and cooler end of this week and start of next week, much better for more of the uk than the latest met office update described today.

It's the same frosty anyweather, you can tell by the lack of paragraphs :D

  5. lol stuffy is the last word I would use to describe winter, I think stuffy sums up the past week, oppressive with a lack of freshness unlike today which was gorgeous, not sure why the warmies like to be in their house when it feels like an oven, what is fun in that, modern houses built in the past 50 years really keep their heat unlike Victorian/Edwardian houses.

  6. Summer 2013 is down there with the absolute worst for storm activity for me. 9 days left of meterological summer left and I have heard 2 yes TWO rumbles of thunder all damn summer!!!! No lightning seen at all.

    What a load of rubbish!

Yes very tedious summer for exciting weather even mild winters provide more excitement at least with gales and heavy rain even HP offers more variety in winter.

I really miss those Polar Maritime NW'lys, at least they offer some convection in Spring.

  7. Its been raining all night and is still going now, absolutely vile weather. Not more than 4 hours sun on any day since Tuesday, very poor forecasts and the lousiest hot spell in a long time.

Yes it hasn't been as promising as some in MD were saying just over a week ago, time to change thoughts to Autumn now, real heat is very hard to achieve from now, just look at the past few days away from the SE, nothing special temperature wise and the airmass was very warm too showing you the effects the longer nights are already having.

Just murky and drizzly here, awful weather and unpleasantly humid too, give me a crisp winters day anyway at least you can get things done without sweating and having a headache like you do from this weather.

  8. Coming up to my favourite time of the year September to April, just too much light May to August, so glad the kids will be back at school here in just two weeks time, also less anti social behaviour when the nights draw in.

So much to look forward to in the next 9 months like halloween , bonfire night, christmas  and easter, also TV, Sport , video game releases pick up, can't wait for the PS4, Ipad 5, Xbox One releases in October/November, just so much to look forward to :)

The Dead Season is almost over :D

  9. Just to add one more post to today's input.

Like I keep saying, I have the most amazing view to the east from where I am...can see for miles. Just had a lovely view of convection way off to the north east. Looking at the radar, looks like I was seeing heavy showers near Derby and Nottingham. No Solihull/Coventry storm blocking my view today! Posted Image

I spoke to someone today who lives in the north of Coventry whose neighbour had their roof destroyed by lightning yesterday around 6 pm Posted Image

  10. Definitely in the club after today, I was in the center of all of the storms, the thunder could not even be heard from my area when there was strikes only in Coventry! A 30 second shower was the most I got, not good at all, but still classed as a "thundershower" because there was one tiny rumble of thunder.

Count yourself lucky, absolutely nothing here today, it rained just 7 miles away in Southam and Solihull was hit hard also, just unbelievable how just south of Coventry always misses the showers, am going to try and contact a local meteorologist to find out the answer why.

  11. Ex-Arctic/Continental Polar northerly air giving sunshine and 11-20C by day and clear skies and 0-9C by night.  However I would also love Polar Maritime westerly air giving sunshine and showers/thunderstorms with again 11-20C by day and 0-9C by night.

LOL, yet you constantly forecast 20C CET's for summer months Posted Image

  12. Yes walking in the countryside is a nightmare currently because of loads of bluebottles attacking you, have to restrict my walks to town area's which aren't too bad or very early in the morning, haven't seen any flying ants yet.

    Wasps I don't find a problem.

  13. September is definitely a boundary month and I agree the first week or so can seem very much like summer. But I'd still call it autumn in the same way this March was still spring for me. No matter how cold March got, I was finally coming home from work in daylight for the first time in 4 months so that signals spring to me. June is definitely summer due to the long days.

The most ambiguous one to most people is November. Its cold, dark & the trees are or are almost bare. Xmas is being talked about everywhere and snow can fall. For most people it really feels like the fourth winter month.

I agree with most of what you say, first half of September can be summer like but after mid month its very difficult to get proper summer heat(early Oct 1985/Late Sept 2011 needed exceptional record breaking airmasses to achieve it unlike now.

First week of March winter but then as we approach the spring equinox its definitely spring, November is hard to call, the long darkness hours might give the feel of winter but some warm temps are possible especially the first half with 20.0C+ being recorded which even February hasn't achieved.
