  1. 5.1C for me so average or slightly above depending on what averages you use. Taking a punt on this even with that figure after a very warm year, taking a risk some semblance of normality will return, could easily be milder than what i say but unlikely to be much colder, one thing for sure nothing like last december.
  2. Got down to 1C here, unbelievably the coldest night so far since the April, proper frosty nights to me in late November are when temps drop to below 0C during the evening, people forget how long the nights are only in December/first half of January are they longer, getting down to 1C by dawn just doesnt cut it to me, if it was September or May then it would as the nights are much shorter especially May.
  3. Yes with this unseasonably mild weather you don't need the heating on at all especially if you have a big screen plasma warming your living room up. Cold weather is really a joke in this country, meaning we just dont seem to have much anymore, this autumn has been incredibly warm even the supposed cool summer felt warm to me especially at night,i said months ago the upcoming winter will be mild and i stick with that forecast, next summer i feel will be very warm with another very warm year, frost at a premium unless you goto local valleys in the early morning
  4. Yes a widespread ground frost tonight, TBH nothing special in late November at all, i have seen temps near 0C in the early morning in a nearby valley in June, still havent recorded an air frost in my town, quite incredible with how long the nights are.
  5. Wow a really warm autumn not far off record breaking is getting you down, surprised you aren't very happy, dont think 24 hr darkness would be any good for you, i mean imagine how much colder it would with no sunlight to rise temps we would have some very very cold temps recorded indeed, the temps would just get colder and colder every day
  6. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/MT8_Manchester_ens.png Its plain to see on the ensembles, above average 850's all the way, yes they are misleading for early next week as it will feel pretty cool with HP but once those southerlies getting going it will be mild again, the runs are shocking for cold weather fans, november with the long nights in the top three longest nights of the year is a good month to see some cold just like May is warmth. I guess you mean december onwards, well way too far away to take seriously really.
  7. The nights have been incredibly warm this autumn, this October is only around 1C colder than June which is remarkable with now how shorter the days are, i guess we have a chance to try the warm dry October = cold winter theory out.
  8. I'm surprised we havent seen Ian Brown around lately, ive noticed that the really cold pools of air are getting less cold every year even alot of blocking around doesnt guarantee these really cold airmasses at the 850 hPa level and that we have to rely on inversion cold for our wintry weather, shcoking lack of cold pools on GFS 12Z even with strong blocking around. yes its only November on the run but you would expect more cold pools around than that.
  9. Late September/early October was fantastic, perfect summer weather and in the countryside it didnt feel too hot and humid, just right so wouldnt mind that weather most of the year, cold and sunny days are great also though when temps struggle above 0C in mid winter with lots of sunshine and all day frost is just fantastic too.
  10. Friday was magnificent in the cotswold, don't think today it would be anywhere as great, this weather is the most tedious, arent bothered about temps as long as its a clear blue sunny day for picturesque views, some weird people actually love dull days like today, not many though
  11. I think we all have to get used to the fact that winters are getting shorter and shorter and spring and autumn getting warmer, longer and drier, something has fundamentally happened to our climate and it will be along time to we get back to a colder period. Of course that doesnt mena we wont get some cold this winter but it seems the window for wintry weather is getting shorter and shorter by the year and by late Jan it feels warm again, even early to mid November feels very warm nowadays in a very strong feeling sun,i think the sun is a major contributing factor for our warmer climate. The stereotype oif englands weather those americans love to mention all the time that its a cloudy wet country is over, it fact it is a much sunnier warmer drier country now especially the central midlands southeastwards.
  12. Today with a scorching feeling sun winter feels as far away as ever, it seems to be warm every day nowadays, october use to record single figure maxs in the west midlands not anymore it seems.
  13. Its looking like the current european block will help to give us a cool, quiet, frosty at night period, GFS ensembles are firming up on this.
  14. Exactly BFTP, god help them when the inevitable mild winters come back if they weren't pleased by last winter, only February was a let down, usually all three winters months are.
  15. Don't get me wrong i love snow just before Christmas running into new years like everyone else and cold ish/dry seasonal weather also, i just would like to see a really severe February that could record a mean CET of below 0C or just above, last time was 1986 and looking back at the records since the 1600's we get one below 0C or just above every 50 years or so, hopefully in the next 25 years in our lifetimes we might see one, you never know could be in the years ahead. Just to show you how cold it can get in the UK in February read this, This was February 11th 1895, the other two times were much earlier dates than mid February.
  16. I disagree, February is the best winter month to have the coldest month of the winter when airmasses are at their coldest and SST's around us almost their coldest, also there is more daylight to enjoy the cold and snow, it's about time we got a really severe cold spell in February to show kids how cold it really can get then instead of them thinking its a spring month.
  17. I think we are in for a very dry winter or a very wet very mild winter, it seems weather patterns have reverted back to warm like in 88/89. Always a chance of a dry and cold winter but for real cold HP might be too stuck to our southeast over southern france with similar patterns to this upcoming week with potential for max date records to be smashed in places.
  18. No way! Its been so warm especially at night since August you need AC much more than Heating, usually you can get ground frosts with temps of around 3C by now even in towns but most nights temps are double figures even around 15C in September, incredible prolonged warm spell at night havent known anything like it, starting to believe global warming is real after having doubts. Not much rain either.
  19. http://www.wetterzen...chester_ens.png - Shades of late Sept/early Oct 1985 there and the following February was exceptionally cold. Incredibly warm weather for the week ahead, to be honest its felt really warm most nights since August even nights in July were cooler. A high risk of some date records going end of this week.
  20. Anybody else experiencing a very dry summer in the midlands or anywhere else? River levels are very low in parts and the countryside looks distressed in parts with the usually green lush warwickshire countryside looking brown and parched in parts, the ground is rock hard with cracks seen in fields of crops, gardeners have commented they really want some rain for their flowers/plants, hopefully some much needed rainfall for tomorrow for us and on sunday/monday though it wont really make it for the lack of rain this summer in the midlands.
  21. Been a very humid cloudy spell of weather until today for what seems most of the summer, last night was the first cool night in ages its been horrid getting to sleep with nights of around 15C Another hot plume for the weekend with cloudy skies and no thunderstorms
  22. Here in mid warwickshire its more like i hope the next unsettled spell is meaningful enough to make up for all the dry weather this summer, only a few showers in this unsettled spell here, dry as a bone most days with just cool to warm and humid cloudy conditions alternating, looks dry on the models after saturday so no drought improvements likely here.
  23. No you'd be surprised how many people have commented to me how they hate hot weather and can't wait for it to get cold, as you say much harder to get cool in this weather than to get warm when its cold, cant you leave your bedroom windows open while at work though? I know you might be afraid of getting burgled but upstairs bedrooms should be ok, i guess it depends on what kind of area you live in.
  24. Probably because the nights are drawing in noticeably and by the second half of August it can start to feel chilly in the evening, definately out of the three summer months with a cool airmass August will deliver the coolest feeling weather because of a weaker sun and longer nights.
  25. Actually GFS 12Z in FI starts to look similar to ECM 00Z so maybe not so much an outlier afterall. Apart from the last week July has felt very humid here so back to the usual this week ahead.
