  1. I would be very surprised to see May somersets joint warmest month with July, surely August is alot warmer on average for them than May and June warmer even September, May's arent that warm at all on average especially mins.
  2. I feel its very premature to call the second half of February spring, even the first half of March isnt proper spring to me and spring proper begins around the spring equinox(march 20th - 22nd). Daytime temps of just 1C were recorded in the NE midlands in late April 1981 with temps not getting above 3C in Birmingham for 3 days, below that in rural hilly districts of the south midlands.
  3. If you mean sun strength and more day light then maybe but on temperature averages then definately no i dont agree, even March has similar daytime average maxs to November with colder minimums than November on average, mid to late Feb can offer some very cold weather to challenge when the sun is at its weakest late November to late January. Second half of August may feel more autumnal than late May to late July but it sure can feel the most humid due to warm seas.
  4. Thanks for acknowledging this Isolated Frost, all i have read is that it was southern and southeastern england that enjoyed the very cold weather and forgot/ignored that central england did too.
  5. As ever the northerly blast is getting shorter by the day with an active jet flattening the pattern in no time, we then have the usual dross of ridging azores high and alternating very mild/cooler westerlies, very uninspiring charts and the reset to the exceptionally cold pattern people in the north wanted looks like delivering only a day or two of cold at the most and not potent by day either with light air frosts at night the best we can hope for.
  6. lol not sure you know what a significant wintry blast is, you said the recent very cold one wasnt then ramp up near average daytime temps for england as a significant wintry blast.
  7. Not sure how a possible one to 2 days of a rather cold northerly toppler can compare to locally the coldest start to february since 1979 and it wont bring hardly any snow either, its about time people judged cold spells by temperature recordings and CET compared to average instead of how much snow you get.
  8. Lincolnshire and areas around there in the NE midlands was very cold indeed,, places nowhere near the SE of england, here in warwickshire it was an extremely cold start to february, the best since 1979, 9 out of 10 from me, 10 out of 10 if i got more snow.
  9. Cold spell lasted for over two weeks, yes not all that period was very cold but most of it was, Coldest start of any February since 1979 in Coventry and Coventry is hardly the SE is it, so many false statements going around saying only SE and that it wasnt that cold, Coventry is the west midlands for gods sake not the SE and that is a huge city, rural parts of the midlands have been record breakingly cold for February. The charts are awful for any cold weather with zonal south westerlies setting up end of the week onwards.
  10. Springlike northerlies from mid week temps widely into double figures, yes like some northerners said much better pattern than the coldest first week of feb since 1996, notherners i guess will be happy with i dont know what, cloudy cool weather.
  11. Some really silly posts going around saying the coldest first week in feb since 1996 was only cloudy with highs of 3C, what utter nonsense some of the coldest temps for february in years and years were recorded in the two week spell that just finished last night, with -9C in towns in mid february which isnt even recorded with longer nights of late december, it was an incredible cold spell with temps below 0C yesterday in clear blue skies and strong sunshine which makes it even more special, boring week to come with no hope of any cold weather, northerlies suck compared to dry polar continental air, even arctic northerlies unless special just produce temps near average for southern UK with some light frosts, zzzzzzz.
  12. Much better february than recent years and good to see the cold in the second half of winter for once, the weather feels bitter and shows how cold february can be with a continental flow, PM air is nowhere near as cold feeling for us central midlanders, continental high everytime for me with a dense kind of cold over mid atlantic highs with temps near average.
  13. Any chance of a moaning at model discussion thread Everytime a bad run comes out you get all this melodrama like its the end of the world or something, over just one run too without looking at other output which is better for cold.
  14. Nice picture arctic, told you not to worry about too much melting snow with the frigid dewpoints arriving last night, brrrrrrr. I think the west midlands is in the firing line but the best will be further west than coventry.
  15. Yes aaron i completely agree cold and snow is much more likely than summer like temps, 20C isnt common at all in March until the end into April when the chances increase. Latest runs do not bring an end to winter at all, alot of egg on the face of some members i feel calling it way too soon and even it did turn milder it could go cold again just like that, winter is never done with the UK until late May onwards, spring is much colder than autumn on average.
  16. Yes there is a risk that the front tomorrow afternoon/evening will give some snowfall here in central midlands before being pushed back westwards on friday and the SE midlands missing out.
  17. Looking like the models especially GFS were being over progressive on monday regarding the flattening of the pattern early next week, they had westerlies into the north on monday now look at GFS much more amplified and going with mine and a few other thoughts on monday calling no zonality for next week. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn1381.png
  18. Bitterly cold night over the snowfields of central england friday night http://www.wetterzen...s/Rtavn6610.png http://www.wetterzen...s/Rtavn6617.png http://www.wetterzen...s/Rtavn7217.png -3C at midday saturday :o :o :o
  19. Saturday could be an ice day in parts of the south midlands and especially the SE, sunday slightly warmer but still cold, not sure where this mild weather is cant see any in the reliable timeframe for us midlanders and SE'ers.
  20. TEITS/Kold, could you please give me your opinions for friday daytime of the potential for freezing rain or moderate to heavy snowfall for the northern cotswolds fringe area(south warwickshire, gloucestershire, oxfordshire border area? Best i avoid friday and go for a walk there tomorrow daytime?
  21. Was going to go for a walk in the northern cotswolds fringe, south warwickshire, gloucestershire, oxfordshire border area, anybody give me their best guess for the weather for friday in that area? Is it best i go tomorrow instead of friday because it might be too bad with freezing rainfall or will it be moderate to heavy snowfall there?
  22. Give me the current block to our east than this ECM chart anyday, some northerners actually like this kind of chart, pants compared to last week for proper cold, not bad run though but needs improvements. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm2162.gif
  23. Anybody else find it amusing when people get all depressed over current output and say roll on spring like it automatically starts March 1st and that it will be warm and sunny for 3 months straight? Look at end of September, beginning of October for summerlike weather, seasons don't just start all of a sudden especially in the UK.
  24. Yes a more HP dominated GFS 12Z for next week, not much in the way of rainfall for southern UK, messy charts TBH like the models are struggling past T+96 hrs, more runs needed in the days ahead.
  25. Yes mine is nearly gone too, will have to head out to the hills tomorrow and look for some I'd rather have sunny cold crisp weather too which will return from mid week
