    Looking out on such a dull scene now, it's hard to believe the day started like this. Spot the heron to win a prize. Half an hour or so later down the track, Downton's resident black swans came to see me. On the bridge looking down. I'm assuming they're small brown trout, but Cerneman will probably know.

    From a purely selfish point of view, I'm more than content with the rain to snow event as it currently stands on Sunday. The mother-in-law is leaving the country mid-morning, so an unimpeded trip up the M3 and clearance for take-off at Gatwick will be ideal. All followed of course, by a heap of the good stuff come the evening.

    Watched a Barn Owl hunting it's prey earlier, just as the sun was starting to set. Haven't seen one out so early before. Unfortunately, by the time I'd found the camera it was over the next field, so out of range for my happy snap bit of kit. Anyway, here it is several hundred yards away. It's not a seagull... honest.

    Evenin' all, Lovely clear day today. Chilly, bit of a breeze, but we could do with a few more like that please. Dragged away from the rugby by a half decent sunset earlier. Not for long though.

    End to end rainbow due west, just before a heavy shower this morning, approx 8:45am. Here's the rest of it, as it wouldn't fit in one shot. Meanwhile, over by the River Avon, levels are on the rise again. This is the overflow into the meadows from a tributary. The water wouldn't normally be visible in this shot. It should be grass and cows. If I was partial to a bet, I'd say another flood warning will be issued over the weekend.

    My first green walk into Downton this morning, which was a bit sad. Spooked a Barn Owl down by the river that was far too quick for me to snap, but a break in the clouds gave a decent sunrise over St Laurence Church.

    Chris Fawkes just went with front edge snow as far west as the New Forest and IOW in the south, which I was surprised to see. It looks more in line with the ECM than the NAE. That said, nearly every NAE output I've seen over the last 2 weeks seems to underdo the snow potential when it gets on the tv, or indeed, the lamp post model.
