Model output discussion 24/01/21
Radiating Dendrite replied to phil nw.'s topic in Forecast Model Discussion
All that hair he has aquired might be impacting his judgement Just catching up - some outrageous ensembles from the 18z. Starting to feel all 2018 - surely the MJO is playing a big role here? -

Still waiting for it to be lit - the SSW seemingly put it out. -

It was the nearest with the event today. Hoping it will adjust South to bring the SE into play. -
Exactly the reason why I have blocked this member. It could show a raging blizzard at +24 and he would still be moaning about something. It is the model thread, so we can discuss whatever model or timeframe we wish to and draw our own conclusions. If people want to go back to the ceefax days and just see things two days in advance then stick to the met site and stop viewing this thread. Anyway, I'm fairly optimistic. A couple of possible snow chances the next few days and then a short milder spell next week before things could start getting colder again from next weekend. A couple of models keep showing an Easterly in early feb as a possibility, with the ECM for to hit this range soon....so it will be interesting to see if we see tentative signs from this model as well. Could be similar to 2018, once it showed and all models picked up, we gradually counted it down with only a few hiccups thrown in.

Yep, only flooding (150mm of rain) and some heavy snow over Scotland.....nothing to see here. It is blatantly obvious the impact the SSW is having, just look at the N. Hemisphere charts, we are just not having much luck with cold that is all. As Chino said last night, the wheel of fortune is still spinning and hopefully we will get our turn soon.

Winter 2020/21 chat, ramps, moans and banter
Radiating Dendrite replied to Paul's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
That is true. We are not looking for day 10 changes though, we need them at day 4 / 5. I feel this has actually counted down ok, the problem is it has been gradually downgraded as it has come closer. If what we are looking at now had been at day 10, we would have probably downgraded to mild and very wet.
