  1. What a great news forecaster Leonard Parkin was.He passed away not many years after the big freeze of 87
  2. Yes it’s just amazing. We have all waited what seems a life time to see the Great Siberian High finally effect the weather all the way to the U.K. The ECM locks in the cold,if this was early January this would probably become too extreme and break winter records for cold but as it stands it’s going to go down as probably the coldest ever start to Spring since records began instead . Cant believe it’s happening
  3. huge upgrade from met office extreme cold setting in and heavy snow showers for many d
  4. expecting the next met update due soon,to mention most of the region seeing increasing chance of heavy snowfall next week I notice the online forecasts are getting colder they forecast ice days for Brighton next week and 60% chance of prolonged snow fri in sub zero temps and strong winds.bring it on !!
  5. people at work tonight still oblivious to what's going to happen next week. I've concluded outside of the weather enthusiast nobody looks at the met office for their forecast ,just the BBC forecast on TV,and that's been completely different to the met office I've given up with the BBC and their dumbing down of this cold spell, someone told me the local south today BBC forecast showed highs of 3 c next week and chance of wintry showers ,total disgraceful, when you look at the met office for my region and it's showing ice days next week, meteogroup need to answer questions soon, they seem incompetent, and why did BBC choose them anyway!
  6. Minus 17 hpa approaching Kent coast next wed ,amazing how the models have upgraded the cold spell as it got closer
  7. Better than dry for all of next week, beeb been dreadful in the run up to this cold spell
  8. Southern England is going to get buried, the met will go level 4 warning if this keeps showing wow ,country coming to a standstill
  9. Huge snowdrifts piling up in the gale force Easterly blizzard, wow what a chart
  10. Blizzards by next weekend in the South,it’s looking more likely now
  11. Looks like chance of blizzards in our region end of next week, looking at the latest runs
  12. It’s too early to know how much snow will fall but I’d be surprised if most of our region don’t get several inches even where we are in the western parts, the strong wind will blow the showers well inland, that’s if it settles, the met office don’t seem confident it seems of that now, despite 850hpa of around -15c and sub zero dew points, could be just a poor worded forecast hopefully!
  13. That’s a downgrade then, only settling in places now? Thought it was going to get so cold it was settling everywhere,so now only on high ground or what very poor update, hope it’s not going all wrong at the last minute
  14. But thats only up to Tuesday,,and they say lots of uncertainty regarding the timing and AMOUNT, of snow, just try and be a bit patient lol,and wait till the met office can firm up on the details nearer the time frame most of the SE will get snow next week that certain.
  15. Whats wrong with UKMO?,that low could move north and bring blizzards to thevSouth ,it would only turn less cold if the low moved north over the UK,stay to the south and it would remain cold, need it to stall in the English channel to bring an historic blizzard to the coastal counties, like 1881,1895 did
  16. great update from met, snow showers becoming heavy after weekend with significant accumulations in places ,it's happening folks .
  17. SW England is in a prime position for one of those classic blizzards from years gone by later next week something like the blizzard of 9-13 March 1891 ,which stalled over the SW because it couldn’t shift the cold dense air mass, next week upper air temps are way lower so could be even more extreme, maybe it will run along the English Channel to us on the Sussex coast too. ecm hinting at that and the met office too talking about substantial falls of snow from any direction later next week, hope it happens ,would be historic
  18. Feels bitter outside now trying to get the cat inside, can’t imagine how cold it’s going to feel by the end of the weekend
  19. I think the met office have been brilliant in the run up to this cold spell. For what has felt like weeks, they have been suggesting the U.K. cold see prolonged cold weather due to the SSW that’s been taking place, and have mentioned the possibility of disruptive snow for the last couple of weeks. Yet the BBC forecasts supplied by Mteogroup said two days ago tthe U.K. would be dry all next week. Feel a bit sorry for some of the BBC. forecasters because if you read their twitter feeds, some of them have been ramping up the cold spell ,yet on their tv presentations it’s been so different with still no mention of the possibility of disruptive snow. Metogroup are going to face some awkward questions if this event turns out as severe as it is currently looking.
  20. Bbc show temps in London higher tues than on mon ,highs of 3 c according to them tues, and 2c mon in London, still no mention of snow on their online forecasted updated about 6 pm!
  21. I’ve given up with bbc forecasts ,just stick with the met office and their excellent text and video forecasts
  22. Models are upgrading this cold weather as it enters the reliable time frame, normally it’s the other way around
