  1. More and more snow appearing in MetO forecasts for our area. Temps have also been getting lower. Feeling very hopeful.
  2. Wednesday even better. MetO now giving Ludlow 2snowflake periods and 2sleet periods. C'mon snow!
  3. We have a sleet symbol in the MetO Ludlow area forecast for next Wednesday, so you guys higher up and further north might be in with a shout for the white stuff. Currently 2.8C here, a real contrast to this morning's 12.4C. Edit: we now have a snow symbol for Wednesday! I think that's the second one this winter.
  4. Relatively calm here now, temp 8.9C. Not quite sure how we would all get on in wind speeds that the Scots endured last night. Unfortunately we might find out since there appears to be a similar storm lined up for next week (15 Jan) which hits central England.
  5. Rain started here and some pretty good gusts from time to time. Bish, we had a couple of very large wasps/hornets here a week or so ago. Like yours ours were on their last legs. I think we have had about half a dozen this winter. Never had them before.
  6. Hasn't been as wet here MIA, although it felt very cold in the wind, real winter rawness. Had the odd blustery shower but nothing sustained. Dog and me were dry and happy! Can hear wind in chimney this eve. Not looking forward to Friday eve at all.
  7. MIA, we went down below freezing by 7pm yesterday eve and stayed there, more or less, until 6am this morning. Currently damp and chilly in the wind, most unpleasant.
  8. Although frosty overnight, temp has now risen to 3.8C. Hopefully rain will stay away for as long as poss so that the dog and me don't get too wet and mucky — she hates the rain more than me!
  9. OK, I have only burnt it well-seasoned in a woodburner and it was as good as ash or beech. Why is it no good on an open fire. is it very sparky or something?
  10. Rain just passed through here and temp fallen back a bit to 7.2C from an early morning high of 8.3C. Blue skies appearing over the horizon. Hopefully, it will be as nice later today as it was yesterday morning which was rather stunning here.
  11. Just scraped a frost here this morning, -0.6C. Misty early, like a cold September morning. Beautiful blue skies, lovely out with the dog. So far this morning has been very spring Iike and warm feeling in the sun. Barely any breeze. Looks as though it might be about to get cloudy for the afternoon.
  12. Great wood for burning too PM.
  13. Certainly for this area, the BBC forecasted temps do tend to be too high in the winter, mostly at night, but quite often during the day too. Oftentimes, the difference at night can be 6 or even 7C, and what is OK for the towns turns into a proper frost for us. I watched a BBC forecast today and temps from Mon through Thursday were double figures for here. The MetO 5 day forecast has no temp in double figures for the same time period, they are in the range 8-9C. In the summer, the forecasted temps seem much more accurate. May be it is easier to get temps more accurate in the summer than the winter?
  14. Just about light enough to walk the dog around the fields with no torch. Only in the last few days have we been able to do that after 4.30, so quite a noticeable lengthening of the late afternoon light.
  15. Fog finally lifted about 3.30 this afternoon. Now cloudy and dull. Temperature currently 1.6C, so a cold day overall. I see there are some tentative signs in deep FI of some colder and possibly snowy weather. Turning point looks to be around next weekend and the folllowing week.
  16. Good frost last night, with a minimum of -4.1C. Very foggy this morning, so hedges and trees looking extra good in their winter garb. Still foggy and frosty now, temp just hovering around -0.4C. Great dog walking weather, mud in fields frozen, so neither of us is quite as mucky as usual.
  17. Still firmly in the 'no snow' club here, just a miserable, wet winter's day. Temperature hovering around 2.5-3.5C all day. Lovely clear skies now, and temps starting to drop back. Hoping for a decent frost tonight. I see no snow at Flash Bar Stores either, so presumably, no-one has lying snow now?
  18. Disaster here. Temp has suddenly risen to 3C. Aaaaarrrrgggghhh.
  19. MIA yes, this is definitely getting more interesting. Dew points across region now 0c or less, mostly -1C. Just about cold enough for snow providing humidity doesnt rise too much. Temp here fallen back to 0.7C, albeit I am in a frost hollow. Fingers and toes crossed.
  20. I think we are too far south and west for anything of great interest. We may get some fleeting snow during the early hours, around 4-5am, but you never know ...
  21. You could be right MIA about getting lucky. The local BBC Midlands forecast certainly had some transient snow for the south and west Midlands, and some more serious snow for the north Midlands. I have noticed that the temps for here on Sat and Sun are consistently being revised downwards. Always nice to see.
  22. Try Wiki, it has quite an easy to understand explanation as I recall.
  23. No chance of anything snowy this far south I'd say. MetO forecast going for 4C for tomorrow morning. Sunday looking chilly with a max of 3C forecast.
  24. Like you guys, we maxed out at 12.7C at midnight last night. Since then temp fallen steadily, and now 6.8C. Skies have cleared and lane is drying up. Light to modertate breeze. Should be a nice day, and getting chilly again this evening.
