  1. Fingers crossed though everyone gets something to whet the appetite tonight. It's looking as though this COULD just be a starter for us, with the models starting to show consistency for a cold week or two- who knows, maybe a bit longer if we get some favourable stubborn blocking around Greenland. If we don't get anything of note tonight though don't get too down hearted. Those like me at lower levels nearer the coast- hopefully we'll get a few more shots at something a bit more promising before Winter's out!
  2. Can only assume it's because the heavier precipitation hasn't got this far east yet. Also (and I could be wrong here) the colder air hasn't made it this far east yet either?
  3. Good point- I apologise. Bit of a generalisation!
  4. Marginal to lower levels tomorrow I think for south Walians (Cardiff, Newport, Swansea for instance.) Think a bit of height will make all of the difference. South-east Wales valleys and north should fair pretty well! All now-casting with the shower activity I guess though. Longer term though things seem to be picking up in the slightly bi-polar model thread! Already been a meteoric improvement on last winter though, even if we only get a bit of sleet between now and April. I think we've all had at least one ground frost for instance!
  5. My fairly sturdy garden fence is all over the drive way right now! Careful if you're off out this evening!
  6. I thought that would be the case! For a split second, I was hoping it was some rare weather phenomenon I had witnessed!
  7. Hi all! Blowy night hey? I'm not sure whether I'm going crazy, but was just having a cigarette out of my window (!) and noticed two big flashes of what seemed like green sheet lightning. I'm fairly certain the conditions aren't conducive for lightning though am I right? It was on top of a hill called Pen-y-lan, west of Newport overlooking Cardiff. Wondering if you guys had any ideas? Maybe a pylon getting damaged in the wind?
  8. Really regret coming out of Netweather hibernation early this year. End of October I think. The holding pattern we are in seems to be never ending! Not far from an easterly but not sure how long this place can hold out!
  9. Don't usually post on here in the summer as I'm a big fan of storms/ snow, but wow- the torrential shower we've just had in west Newport was out of this world! Twenty minutes or so, and it turned my road into a river. Quite something! Anyone else get hit by the same one recently?
  10. Sure I must be seeing things under the lamp post given the snowless winter so far, but sure I'm seeing some thicker blobs mixed in with the heavier precipitation. Hail I'm guessing.
  11. All but stopped in Newport. Nice to get a dusting though
  12. Yup If you look at the radar too, for the past couple of hours the back edge of this band has constantly been at the outskirts of Gloucester. SE Wales streamer?! Settling on roofs, cars and grass here in low lying west Newport.
  13. Feels like we've just won £10 on the lottery the way these showers have turned into a little band of snow.
  14. Is it me, or whatever seems to be coming down from Gloucestershire/ Herefordshire seems to be pepping up all the time? Guessing its convection, and will die out by the evening?
  15. Yup, heavy here too, starting to settle. If only it were to stay like this for a few hours...
  16. Been snowing consistently for most of the afternoon in Newport. The type of snow that has spurts of heavier stuff, but even if continuous for 48 hours, still wouldn't settle. One thin covering would make this long winter for me
  17. Just had the first meaningful snow in Newport. 5 minute blizzard (no exaggeration)- started to accumulate in the corners of pavements too. Bright sunshine again now, and it's all disappeared.
  18. Moderate to heavy snow in west Newport at the moment, not expecting it to settle before the rain moves in. No one can deny though it's been a great cold spell. Falling snow most days in the last week, and for us in Newport, the eighth day of lying snow- it's already beaten last winter hands down. Who knows what February will bring.
  19. Moderate snow in Newport. Very small flakes- but coming down fast!
  20. Well 100% snow now in Bassaleg, pretty much sea level. Very light now though- at least we get warmer summers :/
  21. Whereabouts in Newport? Getting heavy rain in Bassaleg, with a few blobs of bigger flakes mixed in?
  22. Was going to say how heavy the rain is in Newport... guessing evaporative cooling is out of the question, ah well
  23. Snow edging in to the Bristol area apparently...who knows?
