  1. At least you have a better football team... Sorry @Jayfromcardiff
  2. Well that last hour or so of snow has covered a few surfaces (roof of the outhouse, pathways) the wind was keeping clear last night, which is great! The thaw may be due to kick in Sunday, but what an end to winter!
  3. Great accumulations here- not on the levels of Cardiff though by the looks of things, and looking at the radar it's Cardiff and areas NW that look like taking a huge hit the next couple of hours. Newport looks like it's in line for something more modest for a time, at least until what's in the channel arrives. Bridgend I think will be in the firing line at some point soon- everything now seems to be moving in a NW direction. Time for some sleep and see how it pans out! Good luck to you lot in Cardiff, you may not be getting out the door in the morning!
  4. The best for lamp post watching too!
  5. I'd even put up with three months of 30c+ in summer if that comes off- pretty much a repeat of what we've just had today.
  6. Still got bare patches on the driveway and back patio, but can no longer see any longer bits of grass. Snow will be in the hallway if I open the front door. My measuring system: Tough to know how much I've had, but an empty box of cat food blew out of the recycling this morning and ended on the grass on its side. Completely covered now Amazon tells me the box measures 38.2x 19.8x 14.2cm. So I reckon I've got at least 15cm. More to come too. Best event I can recall. And yes, I have got friends too! :o
  7. People panicking before it's even really started. The met office have issued a red warning from 3pm-2am because it will affect the area they've highlighted between that time- not all of that time. 2 hours down, 9 to go. For the record, it's snowing heavily, and horizontally with me. Similar location to Jay, so maybe it's the fact we're that much closer to the coast and more exposed. People living in the valleys (north to south flowing) will naturally be more sheltered from an easterly wind. Chill people. And those saying red warnings will be taken down, I beg you to come and stand outside my front door for five minutes and tell me it's not severe!
  8. I heard sleet is forecast for Porth?
  9. Could we be any more Welsh/ British? Desperate for snow of any kind, then when we get a storm, it's not the right kind of snow. Fingers crossed the flakes get bigger later, but if not, I'm sure the intensity will make up for it! Plenty more opportunities through Sunday too!
  10. Nicely tucked up back at home now. Main routes really starting to get a covering, although the M4 still flowing when I went over it. Now to enjoy an extended, snowy weekend. There's already a tidy mini-drift at my front door (aided by the door step). Bring it on! Kudos to @andymusic's ramping, which could be going on for some days yet!!
  11. In an office at Albany Trading estate near the new Sainsbury's. In at the moment. Main roads not bad but side roads not brilliant. Probably be heading home within the hour!
  12. It's a 4 mile walk or so, but that doesn't bother me too much I guess. Just don't want to be stuck on blocked roads. I think going in and playing it by ear may be a good shout! Take my walking boots with me!
  13. Well I'm in a quandary here. Everything's settled in Bassaleg and the side roads don't look fun already. Main boss has said stay at home, while another says 'that's nothing' and he'll check the roads on his way in and let me know. Do I go in for an hour or so?
  14. Too right! Said at the beginning of the week as long as tomorrow/ Friday keeps it together anything before is a bonus! Can't wait!
  15. Using the RainToday radar which has been pretty decent so far. Anyway, the predicted precipitation for 00:50 tonight. Surely over-egging it? It's all moving east- west.
  16. I just booked the Friday! Didn't want to tempt fate too much! Here's to hoping we get let out earlyish!
  17. Get the beer in at the TA, I may be walking home from work tomorrow!
  18. Bristol channel lake effect snow machine for the day?
  19. Little confused. Light snow that's settling ever so gently, but radar looks clear
  20. Arpege 18z in even more dramatic fashion!
  21. Arpege is a much higher resolution short range model, and should be valued a lot more at this range than the GFS imo. Maybe that's a bit of IMBY yard syndrome though.
  22. Beat me to it. It's quite annoying how Newport is always under a 'blank' graphic on that though- we're a snow shield! All signals point to even lower land in the east doing great, fingers crossed. Get the feeling further west the less cold interlude will hopefully not present too much of a problem!
