  1. I've been using this for the past hour or (https://www.rain-alarm.com/) Seems that when under blue there was very little snow around, but the green seems to be delivering, so hopefully a few green bits pop up over Port Talbot! Seems like it's waxing and waning though the heavier pulses.
  2. Finally coming down heavy and starting to give a covering. Can't really get a decent photo of it though... Given how late it's got going I think it's only right it hangs round for a bit too!
  3. Steady light snow for me so far. Wouldn't quite call it a dusting yet. Will pay money for an hour of heavy stuff if anyone has some to spare!
  4. Snizzling a bit with me now. What @Jayfromcardiff and @bradythemole say is true- it is looking better on the radar. But given what's happened so far this evening, I'm reluctant to get my hopes back up again- if the greens on the radar look like hitting us that may change of course.
  5. The odd flake blowing around in the wind here. Get the west region TV where I live- and Ian Ferguson just mentioned the fact it's all moving a lot slower than anticipated and it's touch and go whether it makes it to the northern areas of the SW, so doesn't bode well for us. Unless there's a turnaround, tonight does match the rest of the winter doesn't it? I'll be a lot more dubious about background signals, SSWs, amber warnings and precipitation charts from hereon in. Take a look at the precipitation chart here, completely contradicts all of the others, but actually matches what's happening right now. Disappointing: https://www.netweather.tv/charts-and-data/netwx-sr
  6. Work in Langstone and live in Bassaleg. Was sleeting and then snowing on my way back through. Fizzled out again, but was quite moderate through High Cross!
  7. Oh snow, how I've missed you Coming down nicely in High Cross, Newport
  8. Looks like the heavier stuff that definitely isn't a radar echo is making quite a push now from South to North. Hopefully turns to snow out west quickly. Personally happy for it to hold out until 5 onwards over the south east!
  9. Well work have made it clear to us that unless we're living in the valleys, we're not being allowed home early... Plus I then have slimming world from 5.30... Any ideas of timing yet to se Wales? Seems conflicting info out there, and the front looks very slow moving!
  10. Derek going for rain/sleet for South Western coast and sleet/risk of snow for south east coast. I'll be devastated if we miss out on this one.
  11. Work in Langstone just on the outskirts of Newport. The odd sleety flake mixed in the drizzle at the moment. Be nice if that colder air mixes in before front moves away to give a couple ouole of surprises. Shower activity could be good overnight though and Thursday is continuing to shape up nicely!
  12. Isn't that the snow total from the 'Beast' in Feb Keith?
  13. Bored waiting for an appointment at the Doctors. So here's my forecast for the week. Based on an amateur look at the models and what others are saying... Tuesday: A wintry mix moving through Wales quite quickly. Nothing but rain to lower levels in the south with some sleet for the valleys and snow to higher ground Mid Wales and north. North Wales seeing also snow but lighter. Tuesday night- Wednesday: plenty of showers piling through on a NW-SE trajectory. Snow for all other than coastal areas in the south, where we'll see sleet unless it's during nighttime hours. Thursday: Snow moves in from the west, sleet for lower levels to begin with but turning to snow in heavier pulses. Turning to sleet as it moves through. Anyone with elevation getting some good depths. Early Friday--Early Saturday: a band of snow returns across Wales from the N/ NE bringing snow for all. How much? Not a clue. Accumulations for anyone with height north of Merthyr pretty good, Valleys to do well from Thursday, lower levels in the south to see something Thursday and hope for something decent Friday. And still waiting for my appointment...
  14. Anyone fancy blowing that streamer 5 miles east?
  15. Annnnd it's raining. Well, sleet at I guess- but same thing, there goes the frost even! Night all- send some snow topped cars down from the valleys in the morning!
  16. Zilch! I was about two miles west of the first shower. Looks like I may be on the very eastern fringe of the one heading towards east of Cardiff now. The blob after it looks like it's heading for Bridgend/ west of Cardiff. Be happy with a sprinkling just to enhance the frost in the morning! Haha. Good to see others getting their first flakes! Hopefully this is the curtain raiser for winter!
  17. It would be the unluckiest winter I remember if we do miss out on any fun and games this time around. I get the feeling we'll see something like January 2013, but it's so frustrating seeing the potential for something really memorable to come off!
  18. Typical man. Radar has had snow heading right at me for the past couple of hours. Guess where it's been dying in its tracks? (I'm in that black circle) Any hope @andymusic?
  19. It's reminding me of 2011-12. So close synoptically to hitting the jackpot but we're always on the edge of it all. Although 2011-12 I seem to remember the east of England and Midlands doing really well in the February, which made that worse! Still time for it to turn around- we're only just into the second half of winter, but it is frustrating! Haven't seen Derek's forecast, but if he's mentioning a dusting even to lower levels, then we're in for a blizzard tomorrow. Not expecting anything though! Good luck to those with elevation further north!
  20. Sorry for the complete off-topic post, but thanks for that! The top picture is of a house just two doors down from me! Ties in to my nan's stories about my auntie being born in the middle of that snowstorm. There was apparently a snow/ ice pile in the back garden until the June of that year! I'd pay lots of money to see just half of that in my lifetime!
  21. Had to put a coat on going out for a cigarette earlier, so knew it was time to get back on here. In @Jayfromcardiff's absence so far... snow chances in Cardiff tomorrow? I laughed someone off earlier when they suggested snow tomorrow- who knows? What's most interesting at the moment is the overall patterns. Could be in for something this winter- feeling it. Although I was feeling it in 2013/14 too...
  22. Also shows the drastic differences a couple of hundred miles can make in our island climate. I would have thought you would have done a lot better than me! In one of the milder areas here in SE Wales and don't usually do particularly well from easterlies, but had more snow on 1st March than December 2010 here. Then a good fall a fortnight later too. Shame it all disappeared so quickly. Fingers crossed for a sustained easterly in mid Winter this year!
  23. More than a few I'd say, and it's all subjective isn't it? I'm in no way a fan of the heat- but like the sunshine/ daylight. My ideal would be to live in the northern reaches of Scandinavia in the summer, and then back down further south for winter, but not too south to miss the cold... For this summer for me, it was good- not too humid, and so sunny. Well, June and July at least. August felt like such a dull month, even though it was pretty average in reality- but was happy for the cooler temperatures by then. Went for 'Mostly good' as I think I heard one clap of thunder all summer, and there were points in July when I would have liked a bit of a break from it. August was just bland- not good, not bad. Now bring on a wet and windy Autumn- barring the March craziness it seems like we've had a really benign period of weather the past couple of years.
