  1. Yep, not a fan of the heat. Here in south Wales we haven't had the hottest of the temperatures, but certainly no cool down either. Seems like it's been dry and 25- 30c for as long as I can remember. Wouldn't complain if it meant we had a proper winter either, but with El Nino kicking in, we could be in for an Atlantic driven one. Law of averages says we're in for something anyway! It'll get hotter before it gets cooler too I reckon. I'll put up with it if it means a stormy breakdown second half of August and then into a proper Autumn. Need some relief!
  2. Covered the side roads completely here, and all of the pavements that didn't even get a covering last night- heavy stuff! Should last another 2, maybe 3 hours!
  3. Family live in Denbigh, just up the road from Ruthin, and the Clwyd valley always seems to cop it! Lovely area!
  4. The clump over London- moving WNW at the moment, and guess it will start sinking SW at some point. Right now it's filling out and intensifying though so fingers crossed!
  5. Looking ahead too, no sign of true Spring for at least 2/3 weeks, with Easter weekend potentially the next place to look for more snow/ wintryness. Personally, I'd be happy if it's warmer by then, as I'm due to head out to Spain to see my dad for Easter, so don't want any delayed flights etc. Anyway, March 2018 will go down as my favourite winter so far (:p) IMBY at least! Just wish those out west had got in on the fun too!
  6. HIRLAM has the northern edge of precipitation coming out of Belgium brushing the south of Wales overnight tonight- nothing spectacular though. And HIRLAM did seem to overestimate precipitation today too.
  7. A good covering here, but the roads are totally clear. The parents are down in Cheddar for the weekend though, so see if you can guess which photo is Cheddar and which is Newport! ?
  8. Heaviest snow not due til end of the night/ early morning. Set your alarm for early!
  9. Here we go. Happy to report it's snowing with me! Really fine stuff which almost looks like rain under the lamp post when the wind gets going. Hopefully it's setting in for the next 15 hours or so!
  10. Bet you enjoyed that mate! Safe journey home. Reckon you should be okay- should just be getting underway around 10ish.
  11. I can't believe he compared Everton with Watford... must be on the wind-up!
  12. And your cat looking as perplexed as mine were too- especially when I opened the door! Something half as good as that fall would be fantastic! Think the heaviest and most prolonged stuff will fall south of Wales- so good luck to you lot on the peninsula!
  13. Everton win in a blizzard at Stoke. Wales win in a freezing cold Cardiff to contribute to the team of Tarquins and Crispins led by a xenophobic Australian finishing 5th (unlucky 'chaps'.) Now we just need Wales to wake up to a ubiquitous 10cm covering and it's been the perfect weekend! Cymru am byth innit! Good luck all!
  14. They're a thing of beauty! Here's to hoping it sticks around bad/ long enough to have a long weekend!
  15. A little breather for me to watch Everton lose at 3pm, then back to the window for 6pm
  16. Somewhere in between, but pretty good! Valleys generally 10-15cm I reckon. Heads of the valleys and Beacons maybe 25cm! Just don't look at the main BBC TV weather graphics- they're beyond confusing. No snow for Wales from 4am Sunday... :s
  17. Soooo, Saturday night could be interesting!
  18. Heavy wintry mix now, alternating between sleet and wet snow. The thaw has well and truly set in here on lower ground- drifts still here but the thinner/ moderate coverings are no more. Looks horrible out there! What an end to winter. We had a decent covering here in early December and a good 10-15cm of level snow from this event. The drift at the entrance to my driveway was at least 3 feet, which took some time to clear away this morning! Looks like a very chilly and wet march ahead. Some of you higher up I'm sure will maybe be in for a few shots more of snow yet, but nothing major showing for most. A fine end to a half-decent winter. Wish we could just get into spring weather if we're not going to have deep cold, but I think we're in for a good month or so of wet and sometimes stormy whether. I'll be back in here should there be any other chances of wintryness, and in the summer if there are some good chances of thunderstorm. Otherwise, catch all of you for winter 2018/19. Have a great spring and summer everyone!
  19. Radar says I had snow all the way overnight, albeit with freezing rain very close. Certainly no evidence of freezing rain on cars etc but from what I can tell we've lost snow cover and a thaw has set in! Still a complete covering though so can't complain at all!
  20. Can't see it arriving myself til 3ish, and by then it seems to decay quite a bit. Better keep the cover we have I guess than risk sleet/ rain/ freezing rain! Good luck to all staying up! Fingers crossed- especially for Bridgend- Llanelli!
  21. Bit nervous about what's heading our way this evening/ overnight. Sure it will make it, but seems marginal to me whether coastal areas could get freezing rain instead?
  22. This thread this week when looking at our prospects reminds me a little of this: GIVE US MORE!
  23. I'm going to sound greedy now after 48 hours (nearly) of snow, but rain/sleet forecast for south coast of Wales now tomorrow? Was hoping to have a day of 'dry' weather to get about in the snow tomorrow and accept a slow thaw starting Sunday.
  24. I thought it was somewhere in the Dakotas in America! Like a scene from Fargo!
  25. To be fair Andy, he and Ian Ferguson were chatting on Twitter on the Sunday saying how worried he was. He presents the forecasts and makes the predictions- which he was doing since that Sunday. He doesn't control the warnings or how much the media publicises what could be a major event. For me, it's the wider media that have a duty to report these events responsibly- and sectors of the press promising snowmageddon each winter doesn't help. But on the whole, I think Welsh media was reporting this event from the beginning of the week. Apocalyptic reporting of standard events mean the public just doesn't buy into extreme stuff until it hits them!
