What's the correct term for a blizzard of sleet? That's what I've got now. The worst of all weather! ?

Time to crank up the reverse psychology. A transient affair for the valleys- a pasting for the heads of the valleys and Beacons. For those like me lower down- a very wet one! Warm snow if you will. Nadolig Llawen all!

Yeah. I think had the PPN come from a slightly different direction we probably wouldn't have had such luck. I was shocked though- Caerphilly end of Machen- zero, half a mile further down the road (and lower down) there was more snow. Really interesting to see the snowline so visibly!

I'm a little shocked how sporadic accumulations are. Been for a drive to blackwood via Risca and back through Ystrad/ Caerphilly/ Bedwas/ Machen. Places with more elevation than me have had virtually nothing- Trethomas, Bedwas, not much in Caerphilly. The only reason I can think of is there are some hills directly to the west of Bassaleg. Otherwise not sure how we've done as well as we have? Don't think I've ever seen us get anything from a marginal event in my memory! Blackwood looked stunning by the way!

Unless my eyes are deceiving me I'm not seeing anything rain or sleet out of my window? Radar says I should have for the past hour! Edit: they were. Hard to see such fine rain! ? Fingers crossed tomorrow brings something for all!

Not saying the individual forecasters have got it wrong- just the call from the main BBC and met output to steadfastly call it as a rain event was not the right call. Imo a better way of putting it would be with the caveats that came with Friday's forecast. As I said anyway, 'if' and as you say it could indeed end further north. As I said, I'm fully prepared for rain!

National BBC weather TV forecast for us down south was dreadful. If the southern shift in the models does come to fruition then it's been one almighty mess-up from the Met Office/ BBC. Notice many forecasters have been very quiet on Twitter. Quite frankly, I haven't got a clue what's going to happen. But fully prepared for some warm snow.

I'm still getting a tropical 6 in Bassaleg! My sister got a bit at least in Henllys last night..! What I'd give to move somewhere with more elevation!

I'm happy to hope for something! I'm just in full-on 'avoid disappointment' mode what with the snow drought we've had- just can't remember a knife edge event going in the favour of those of us at near sea level! Even the falls at the turn of the decade were a lot more certain. Anyway, I'll certainly be keeping an eye out- and the beers are on me if we do get anything substantial! Have had a bit of proper snow over the last hour- but no settling as of yet!

I'll pay your mortgage off/ rent if we get 5-15cm at lower levels in SE Wales. In fact I'd buy us all a drink on here if we get even a centimetre! 5 years this January since last settling snow here. That's worse than our record in the 90s! Get the feeling we only stand a chance when we have entrenched cold- 0 or below and plenty of thickness/well sub zero DPs/ all the other ingredients. I wish I had your optimism @Jayfromcardiff! Watch the beacons and valleys suck the intensity out of these showers and leave us in the sleet zone! Excuse my inner Scrooge. Just that I've purposely given up on snow chances now unless everything ticks the box!

One of my favourites that one! Was barely mentioned in the forecasts. One downer though was that we had some pretty cold air already in place then as I remember!

Yep, the drizzle is here with me too. What's worse is that it's helped melt away the dandruff that had frosted/ iced over when the skies were clear. That's it for me tonight. Hopefully next week and beyond delivers something to low levels.

Light snow again. Sure they'll keep merging- and the temps and DP's should lower a bit more too come midnight.
