  1. If anyone wants to get in the mood and isn't averse to football - watch the West Brom game - hopefully that's on its way! Looks crazy!
  2. Yeah defo. It's great to see those Bridgend / Port Talbot way hopefully in with a chance - looks like there's quite a 'streamer' lined up on that trajectory now. Blow it a little further south though and bingo!
  3. Ah fair enough Have also been looking at a couple of places in Talywain - so maybe I should go there instead, ahah!
  4. Yup, looked like it was heading almost directly south and then filling out west as soon as it got to the Beacons? Ah well - probably would have been rain anyway,
  5. This shower reaching the northern tip of the Beacons anyway now. Let's see if it holds onto its load
  6. Hahaha. Yeah I bet just being the other side of Caerphilly mountain helps shield you from the south / south west. Hoping to move up north of Pontypool over the coming months so fingers crossed that'll go in my favour next year! Definitely Andy. It's always the way for us though, and then we'll end up hitting the jackpot with a channel low / battleground set up. So fingers crossed that will be the case, maybe tail end of next week?
  7. It definitely seems pretty dynamic. Only five minutes or so of sleet here but as you say it pepped up somewhat. Just taking a look at theae screenshots from the radar, it looks as if it's bulking up a bit again, with the secondary shower almost merging with the first? Obviously got to get over the Beacons first mind.
  8. Lol. Bassaleg, Newport - rain. Roll on my move to Pontnewynydd. Edit - slightly sleety
  9. Can see Twmbarlwm from mine, but the ridge has disappeared, so imagine Cwmbran east is getting some
  10. Been watching these for a few hours. As soon as they get to around Hereford they begin to veer south east. Just as conditions seem ripe for snow the chunk of snow currently over mid-north Wales looks like it's decaying a bit and will also take that NW-SE track at the last minute. Will have to wait for some fun next week
  11. So, first bite of the cherry didn't give us much joy, but if I could sum up (from an extremely layman POV) where our winter stands at the moment with a GIF, it would be this: We're at the party - high pressure in a good place, low pressure in a good place. But there's a couple of drinks spoiling it - the SST's that prevented us getting much joy this week, and coming up - a lack of real cold out east (or south east in the med). Luckily, there's a drink we've got ready to use to perk things up - the SSW... So long as we use it wisely (it doesn't push any high pressure too far west or spark up the Atlantic) - it'll be one hell of a party. Primed and ready to go. Let's hope 2021 is one to remember - for so many reasons!
  12. The potential that's there currently for January probably hasn't been seen since 2010. If it comes off, this week could look like a heat wave. There will be so many more chances than this week - so much residual warmth to get rid of from this month, plus with sea temps still high, that's an extra factor in play that wouldn't be there come end of winter. Next month is where it's at
  13. I know - always the way isn't it? I think we'll see something. I mean the general thing that happens is it all goes south slightly, we have a bit more leeway our way for that to happen - and it also makes it less marginal too. But whatever happens, there'll be more chances to come. Could be a really special January if the SSW comes off as anticipated - could reinforce what is already a good looking pattern!
  14. Verrry good evening viewing! Looks like there's a sweet spot range of 100 miles or so in it. I'll take the ECM Further north brings more snow to midlands and mid / north of Wales, with rain to south Wales and coast. If it corrects further south - could miss us all! Eastern England could be rubbing their hands though! Whatever way this mini event goes, I'm starting to get excited at the prospects of winter. This week is just the appetiser!
  15. Remember this well! Was my GCSE year and yielded my first snow day of my comp years! Really intense snowfall and would have left us buried if it had gone on much longer. Thursday afternoon IIRC and we had a virtually identical event exactly two weeks later. Then 20c or something a day or two after it! After a few years of virtually no snow too.
  16. Happy 2020 all. Worst Winter weatherwise of my lifetime this. Even 2013/14 saw a visit or two to the model thread... That had some impressive storms at least - this has the most consistently damp, grey, mild and benign in some time. Some impressive falls of snow aside (March 2018) we haven't had an actual winter proper since 2012/13. A run that beats the 90s hands down. Time to build ourselves some 2000 metre high cities I think.
  17. As much as I'd give to stay up all night watching this, I've got one of those bosses who will make you remember taking a snow day for the next year, so time I get to sleep. But before that, got to say that as cool as it was seeing the beast last March and we won't get the same totals tonight, it doesn't match with how beautiful it'll look out there in the morning! Snow clinging to the trees, stacked up on walls and fences. Just didn't get that last year but thanks to a lack of wind it'll look pretty spectacular when the sun comes out in the morning! Night all, I've enjoyed the rollercoastwr, haha!
  18. Perfect! The snow's just a sideshow really! Met Office keeping the fun going until 10am now (albeit lighter from 2am onwards.)
  19. How's it looking in Machen Gareth? Hoping for another day at the TA myself...
  20. I'm generally quite chilled and accepting about low chances of snow living in a low lying coastal area, but I'll admit I got pretty down hearted a couple of hours ago. Lets hope it keeps ticking over through the night.
