  1. From the BBC News website earlier, Glastonbury Tor this morning…. Proof that elevation is sometimes essential for snow!
  2. Sleety rain here.. need to stop looking at the radar! Couple of hours ago looked like that was it for the day, an hour ago it looked like snow and poss heavy was coming, now it looks like just South Wales copping it! Maybe that blob off Cornwall will come…..
  3. Moderate snow on off here, but it’s melted what settled earlier! Tops of the hills seem to getting whiter…
  4. Good luck! I’m the other end of The Cotswolds snow light here but grass covered… been enjoying watching your posts in the MOD and following them with interest!
  5. Trawling through the last 5 pages of the MOD thread and trying to take an average(!) there is a fairly high chance of snow for the top half of our region for most of tomorrow, more especially with a bit of elevation and away from the Bristol Channel, followed by another potential event on Thursday - a lot of the models seem to be bringing Thursday event further south than was predicted yesterday.. So I guess north of our region/south midlands could see snow both days. Presume lying snow after tomorrow (if there is any!) would help keep it cold, especially if Thursday’s low stays fairly south. Of course this is a bit IMBY, but Cotswolds east of me and the Chilterns could do very well! Rapidly clearing skies here as the sun is going down, a frost would be good tonight…
  6. Been radar watching a bit this eve… more sleet/snow is showing over higher ground in Mid Wales, and that’s a big chunk of precip off West Wales.. it’s mostly rain over the sea, but it’s mainly sleet/snow what’s falling behind it in Ireland too..I think someone in mid/south wales, and possibly further east and south of that could have a surprise in the morning, especially over higher ground.
  7. I reckon someone will see something white later tonight/early morning, maybe even on the ground first thing for a bit. Radar is changing slowly, that’s some heavy, slow moving rainfall off west Wales coastline, and some more green/pink is showing up inland over higher ground in front of it…
  8. No that was a few years previous, maybe 2004? I do remember that very well! 4 inches of snow in half an hour, never seen anything like it! Was like dense fog coming over the horizon when it showed up, with purple lightning and a huge boom of thunder - just before rush hour! Roads were chaos.
  9. I remember a brief event in 2007 (?) where it was mild in the morning, similar to today, and it rained incessantly for about 6 hours. There was back edge snow for about an hour at the end, and about 2 inches settled which then froze overnight… ever since then I’ve thought anything is possible with a quick change!
  10. I’m taking the warnings as a sign of potential - there’s now one covering most of this region on Wednesday as well. Sure, they well be wrong, but they may also be spot on! In which case we may all have done very well for second week of March by the end of the week! Very Interesting stuff happening all this week for this country, whatever the outcome is!

  12. Could be as late as Sunday night! In Dec apps were showing a few flurries as late as 11pm on the Sat night. 8 inches of snow fell where I am from the Sunday morning around 5am…
  13. UK will be eaten! I can see the Daily Express forecast already….
  14. Dipped in here today to see what’s occurring - there seems to be a lot of posts saying the SSW won’t deliver (cold that is). But the models seem all over the place, surely they’ve not got a handle on the ‘result’ in what is likely to be 2 weeks time yet, whatever that may be? Or am I wrong in saying that?
  15. Watching this thread with interest - but reading between the lines of the - it’s going to be major cold/it’s not going to happen/no one knows yet - surely the models won’t have any clarity yet ? If the SSW is only just starting to happen, how can the models have a good handle on its potential outcome in 2 weeks time?
  16. Thanks for the replies re weather poss coming our way… maybe there’s a repeating pattern? We did have a lot of rain following the deep cold in the US, mid December til early last week. But that was sandwiched between 2 pretty good cold spells - this last one hasn’t been snowy as such, but there’s still half an inch of snow in sunless fields around here that fell last week on Tuesday night, it’s been that cold since. Could we be heading in that direction again in a few weeks? Seems like repeating patterns have been the way for several months now, be or heat or cold…
  17. Agreed, there has been quite a cold spell here! Drove back from Sussex today, outskirts of Reading was -2c according to the car at 11.30… all the trees had frost on top to bottom. Same again near Cirencester nearly an hour later. In the Chalford valley outside Stroud, on the side that gets no sun, the half inch of snow that fell on Tuesday night is still there! This cold spell was predicted to end last Friday.. quite a winter here after a week of 6 inches of lying snow in December..
  18. I’ve enjoyed this cold spell - sure I only had half an inch of snow v early Wednesday morning, but that’s still around here and there on the ground where sun hasn’t hit it. Amazing really. And the days have been beautiful, and actually so have the nights. Crystal clear, and a few shooting stars around. Happily have a few weeks of this! See what happens next I guess…
