  1. Coming down on Monday to Cricket st Thomas for a birthday few days away, judging by comments on here this evening,Somerset will have quite serious flood problems by then if not already.
  2. Wet here today, didnt expect anything and was not let down. However heres a thing....in over 60 years, last year was the first that I did not see a single snowflake,in the air on the ground, nowhere. Just beginning to wonder if this Winter might follow suit, lets hope not.
  3. OK chinstrap tightened on tin hat prior to a rare foray into this thread.Earlier today Carinthian posted that European models to which he had access suggested they supported the UKMO, ie colder weather with perhaps some duration. Not for a moment am I saying its conclusive or correct, but it is model related,so wondered what peoples take on that is,right back in the trench lol
  4. Surprised records went back this far lol,but 9/2/50 seems to sum up my love of cold and snow.....I was born into it,not too sure to be honest just lots of blue and a large trough, may have it totally wrong.
  5. Masses of wasps in my neck of the woods, being a gardener and allergic to the stings, they have kept me on my toes, one interesting thing though is that certain plants this year have cornered the market with the wasps.
  6. M y take on this summer is that it has been mainly dry, unusually windy and pleasant without ever being hot.As a gardener, that makes it quite useful, except having to do a hell of a lot of watering.I was in my local garden centre today and the staff agreed with me as to the numbers of folk complaining what a wet summer it had been in our area,a number of my customers have been under the same illusion.
  7. Yes Dougal should be transferred to South Today weather Dept on our region tv,totally abysmal accuracy
  8. The Summer here has been quite good, mainly because as a gardener, with fair skin there hasn't been too much extreme heat to deal with. Most days have been dry, sunny and warm. The only gripe from me is that that we have had so little rain and its also been very windy which has meant lots of watering as I cant trust my customers to do it lol
  9. Helped run a charity golf day in Verwood today, boy did the players ever get toasted as the sun was tempered by the breeze........or so they thought
  10. Well over the last 3 days my fishing mecca the Hampshire Avon has gone from easy paced and quite low to being nearing coming over the banks so sadly some flooding will take place, just hope its not too bad regionally, especially the South West who suffered so badly last year.
  11. John, your reply much appreciated, thanks for the information.
  12. Found this a really enjoyable, interesting subject, just a question to the more knowledgeable on here....the frequency and magnitude of the quakes have gone on for some time now,is there any signs that there is and end game,so to speak ie fizzle out slowly or perhaps a major eruption, any views much appreciated.
  13. Whilst not really understanding the technical terminology ect, I must say that this has been a really compelling forum to visit.Although its been ebbing and flowing,no pun intended between safe and not so safe, the implications would be far reaching no doubt should something unexpectably bad transpire. To those of you that have posted regularly and with knowledge too a big thank you, very interesting forum indeed.
  14. Agreed, you just kept hoping for an upturn in fortunes, that just never materialised,an uncanny Winter, like no other in my lifetime,so on a positive note this Winter will be better, you cant get any worse than not seeing a single snowflake,as was the case here too.
  15. The only comment I have on the coming winter is this.one flake of snow will make the coming winter far better than the previous one.
  16. Only saw thundersnow once,i know it was the 28th Jan,and im sure it was in the 2000s,folk on here reporting it coming South, quite exciting, was raining at first, then as had happened elsewhere thunder and lightning started and there was just an epic deluge of heavy snow,be interesting to see if anyone remembers the year....2004 possibly?
  17. Yes Mapantz,im a bit more north of you,but based on daily forecasts from the last few days I treated 10 big lawns yesterday on the basis that todays rain would nicely wash the product in,nervously looking at the sky after a short burst of drizzle, not enough, might have to consider watering lol after the winter weve just come through.
  18. im going to Shaftesbury tomorrow to meet somebody who lives a good way west of Sherborne are the roads bad out that way do you know
  19. Plenty of cancelled matches i reckon Andy, rain bit of sleet, few wet snowflakes, back to rain, lovely being a gardener at the moment lol
  20. Not sure if it has any knock on effects but the SE forum reporting more and more change to snow out as far as Sussex.
  21. Yes Cerneman snow melt into the rivers will make things tough, grayling, chub or very desperate pike the only saving grace.
  22. As a keen fisherman who gardens for a living, its been a bit of a double whammy, rivers over the banks and difficult gardening conditons most of last year, hoping for some dry weather to get out to do both things, gardening has to be done whatever the weather, but fishing rivers in flood although good sometimes is dangerous done on your own for safety.
